Family, guy next door atmosphere. You feel like you’ve known Jake, the owner and grill man, your whole life. Excellent food made to order. Excellent and friendly service. Very human experience in a world full of corporate chain disasters. CASH ONLY or you can order online with a card. A little expensive, but you’re paying for quality and supporting small and local business.

Great food, amazing staff, one of the only places left with great food and affordable prices. Breakfast and lunch anytime I'm downtown and have the time I stop in. The staff are very personable and good at what they do.

My wife and I were in Springfield and saw the positive reviews on the restaurant, so we gave it a shot. It was really good. Both of had the breakfast sandwiches on English muffins w/ side of potatoes. We are definitely coming back here.

Seems a good place. Got the Ruben and something called a egg/olive. Ok. Assume a local taste. Ruben was good. Wife got a chef salad.

Amazing little American Grill. The best breakfast all day menu along with grinders and lunch specials. Great prices, portions, and patrons. Easy to find parking in area.

Absolutely fantastic experience. City Jake was in front of the grill with freshly gelled hair, kitchen bib on, and white New Balance shoes ready for a big day. Our orders were taken promptly and the coffee was in self serve pumpers ready to pump, when my bro asked about which flave he should try- City Jake barked “the jump start is no girly man coffee, it’s black euro”. We doubled down on his signature blend, and walked through the restaurant admiring City Jakes store-long shelves littered with Bass Fishing trophies and awards while the ambiance of a lit af grill was popping off in the background. My blueberry pancakes are an absolute 10/10 and City Jake himself suggested fresh whipped cream on the top, to which I couldn’t turn down in any lifetime. The four Midwesterners in my party noted more than once “wish we had city Jake in Kansas City.”

No frills dining at its finest. And talk about a hidden gem; I've been in Springfield for years and have never been inside. I'll be back, though. Great food, great prices, and a friendly owner / operator.

City Jake’s Cafe has been serving good, no nonsense food in Springfield for over 30 years. It’s where the locals go to for breakfast and lunch, which is a recommendation in itself.
One word of warning; it’s cash payment only.

i had a 50 minute wait in springfield for my bus but have never been here before so i decided to skate around the city for a second and stumbled upon jake's. walked in and ordered on a whim. i ended up eating a western sandwich that was possibly the best breakfast i've ever had. RUN don't walk to jake's, the folks are lovely and the food is fairly priced and capital d Delicious.

Stopped in for a quick breakfast before a long drive. Excellent food. I had a bacon egg and cheese on a roll. The home fries were the best I've ever had, well browned a little onion and peppers but just the right amount. Seasoned properly Definitely will be back .

We are not from here. Traveling from CT and googled near the casino. Really good breakfast! Cashier and cook very nice and attentive. Food was out quick and fresh. Next time we visit casino this will be our spot!

Some of this is personal taste buds, but it's also the ingredients, that was one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had in recent memory.
