After looking around for a place to purchase live edge slabs of wood for my future basement bar, I visited Joe looking for some “funky” pieces of wood (the more unique the better!). I showed up after calling ahead and lining up a date/time. He walked me around his shop and showed me all of my options. I gave him the approximate lengths I was looking for and he took the time to walk me through his different wood varieties and showed me some pieces that would make sense for my application.

I ended up choosing two black walnut slabs and they turned into something great! I would recommend Hammer Creek Hardwoods due to Joe taking the time to walk me through his shop and explaining things to me (a first time slab buyer) and the selection of slabs in his shop. I can’t comment on pricing as I didn’t shop around, but wood isn’t really cheap anywhere, especially if you’re looking for the lengths I was. Joe had what I was searching for and I had no reason to look elsewhere.

The owner of this fine business is one of the most honest, knowledgeable, and helpful you could find. He knows every tree in his shop and how every slab relates to the tree it was cut from. A wealth of knowledge about every type of hardwood in there. The wood itself is in immaculate shape, kiln dried, and everything from turn key to rough sawed.

I went here the first time to find some cherry wood, although I did not get any cherry I was super impressed with all the wood planks here. I did go back the other day and got some cutoffs for knife handles. The owner is a great guy and fun to talk with.

Great selection of a wide variety of wood species. Many very large, thick, live edge variations. Most are dried on site. Joe is extremely knowledgeable in his craft.

Joe is great to work with. My only complaint is all sales are final which is not posted at the store, shared in person, on the receipt or on the website. So if you intend to make a purchase of materials from them be aware of this policy.
