Red Hill Fossil Site

Although its a lot of work to find anything substantial there is certainly fossils to be found here. The parking is along a semi busy road so bringing children of a young age may not be the best idea unless one can keep a keen eye on them so they don't wonder out into traffic. There are no fees or attractions just a giant red rock cut from the Divonian period. This is part of the mahanoy shale deposit that runs from NY to WV.

If the weather is nice and you enjoy this type of thing it can be a great place to spend an afternoon.

Sentiment reasons

Its a cut in the hill for the roadway that you can go explore and find fossils. Did not get to the museum, but met the curator right at the site. He was awesome in answering questions and telling us about the formation and the Hynerpton. Help us ID our finds. Wish I had more time to spend with him and there, but the little ones were hot and getting fussy.

Almost missed this one; turned out to be the cut out made for the road at some point in the past. We did not look for fossils, but did enjoy all the rock layers and formations from the crumbling over the years.
