I called Joseph Levine & Sons because they were the firm that handled the burial of my grandparents’ 6-month old daughter Gertrude nearly 100 years ago. Thankfully (and for good reason), they are still in business, and I was turned over to Kevin. I can't imagine a way in which the process from there could have been more meaningful or compelling, for which we are beyond grateful to the good people at Joseph Levine & Sons.

My grandparents immigrated from Eastern Europe and ended up in Philadelphia in the early 1900’s. Gertrude died in 1925 before they moved from Philadelphia to York. Members of the family still remain in the York area, and Gertrude’s grandparents and sisters are buried in the cemetery there. We wanted to bring Gertrude to rest with her family.

From the moment Kevin took my first call, every step (both legal and logistical) was thoughtfully, compassionately, and professionally handled. At the disinterment, Kevin and Wayne worked on each clump of dirt with kindness and patience in the hopes of finding a remnant, notwithstanding searing 97-degree heat. The soil from her first resting place was solemnly placed in a new coffin for transportation and re-burial. Kevin accompanied the remains and oversaw the burial in York.

It was a profoundly emotional experience for all of the family members, made so in large part by the kindness of the people of Levine & Sons. As we were standing on the same ground that Gertrude’s parents had stood on when they buried their baby daughter and Kevin was sifting through the ground, he remarked that the staff of Levine & Sons were aware of the 100-year connection with the firm and were “rooting for Gertrude.” We could not have been more touched.

This represents a huge piece of closure for our family. We are deeply appreciative of all that Joseph Levine & Sons did for Gertrude and her family which made it so.

Dear Barbara:
Now that the dust is beginning to settle a little, I wanted to take the opportunity to personally thank you, Kevin Bloch, and the entire Levine staff for the wonderful way our grandson Stephen’s preparation and viewing were handled with tenderness, dignity, respect and professionalism.

I also wanted to comment on how natural Stephen looked at the showing, and on the beauty of your facility. As a non-practicing Catholic, I have been to my share of “Catholic” viewings through the years. But I was blown away by how differently it was handled at Levine’s. It was wonderful, and I shall always remember and cherish it. I also wanted to thank you for your help with obtaining the flowers for the casket. They were beautiful indeed.

I’m pretty sure your services are most often required for elderly Jewish people who died of natural causes. That’s heartbreaking enough! But performing those services for a young, vibrant, non-Jewish person, who died of suicide, leaving a young family behind, cannot have been any easier for you and your staff than they were for the family of the deceased. You and the staff are to be commended for the excellent job you all did quickly, under very trying circumstances.

Stephen’s maternal grandfather

My 98 year old father passed away on a Saturday. This was not unexpected. None-the-less, we dealt with Kevin Bloch and his staff was outstanding. My father was a WWII vet and Kevin made sure a military honor guard was at the cemetery to play taps and present flag to my. 96 year old mother. It was outstanding. Kevin also worked through the weekend making sure picture were posted to the funeral Home’s internal and external sites. The day of the funeral the staff w as smooth and attentive. Very professional. Very comforting experience.

Kevin Bloch could not have been a more calm, compassionate and helpful person to work with before, during and after our mother's funeral. His laid back and non-pushy supportive manner made this emotional time a much more bearable one to get through.
He was receptive and detailed in making sure that our mother was prepared for her burial exactly as we requested (both in her body's appearance as well as how she was resting).
In addition to the "standard" things that go along with planning a funeral, a tornado touched down right next to the funeral home the night before the funeral, destroying the car dealership on Street Road. Kevin was on top of communicating and reaching out to us to immediately to let us know what had happened and instill confidence that all was well at the funeral home.
The day of the funeral his presence was appreciated, as he made sure that our graveside service ran smoothly. We would recommend Kevin Block and Joseph Levine's funeral home without hesitation. Thank you!

Levine's has always handled funerals for our family. So it was only natural that I reached out to Kevin Bloch when our son was killed. He and his staff handled every detail with care, compassion and professionalism. This series of events was like none other that I have experienced and I think the same held true for the entire Levine staff and family. No detail was overlooked and I could not be more pleased. Our son passed away suddenly and we had to make arrangements. Kevin and Barbara were a beacon in our darkest hours. Dan and Tony were very compassionate . They helped us with ALL the plans and everything went smoothly, but with much emotion. I would not have made it through without their assistance & compassion. It has been over 20 years since both of my parents came through their doors. My wife and I will be making our plans to take our final ride with Levine & Sons.

Levine's Funeral Home has always arranged the funerals for our more senior family members, however we never thought we'd have to make the arrangements for our 28 year old son. Since we've always been happy, considering the circumstances, with the service we've received from them, we didn't have to think twice. We knew we'd contact Kevin Bloch from Levine's.

Since our son was in the military, Kevin arranged for him to be picked up at Dover Air Force Base and for the necessary escorts and highway accommodations needed during the long procession back to the funeral home. Even though there were over 900 people in attendance, Kevin arranged to have a video cam and to have the service live streamed so the people in the overflow rooms, and for those family members, friends and active military who couldn't attend, would still be able to see the service. Kevin was with us the entire time, working with the manager at the cemetery, making sure everything ran smoothly, of course, where our son received full military honors.

The compassion that was given to my husband, son, other family members and myself during this time was unmatched. This difficult process was made easier by Kevin and his team, who were professional, and treated us with great respect and care throughout.

I had a very unique set of circumstances regarding a disinterment of a loved one. From the very first phone call to the last thank you email, Kevin and his associates were professional, they were easy to work with and easy to be with. They were with me through the whole 4 hour process being a liaison between the workers, both cemeteries and myself. They made sure everything went according to plan and they were calm and made me feel secure and comfortable. There were a lot of moving parts and the were in control over everything. If I had to use one word to describe my experience with them it is "wonderful". Kevin and his associates are wonderful and the service they provided is wonderful. I depended on them to help get me through a hard circumstance and they did not let me down. Thank you, Kevin for all your hard work and dedication.

My husband and I decided to make funeral pre-arrangements to take the pressure off our family when the time comes. We contacted Joseph Levine & Sons to make these arrangements as they have taken great care of our family during our times of need. Brian and the staff at Levine's have always made a very difficult time less stressful with their kind and compassionate professionalism.

My family and I have been working with Joseph Levine and Sons for three generations. Most recently, our interactions have been with Brian Levine. Brian is always the consummate professional, at a time when clients appreciate his calm, caring, empathic and accommodating approach. I have recommended Levines’ services to so many of my family and friends, and all have commented on the seamless process and their appreciation of Brian’s compassion and professionalism. Kevin was great during this very difficult time. His communication was excellent throughout the process and he and his staff were wonderful to my family the day of the service (even providing snacks for my younger kids). From the pre-service details to the day-of service and burial, Joseph Levine & Sons were beyond professional and compassionate.

My dear sister departed, unexpectedly, in March 2023. Our family has been using the services of JL&S for literally "generations"! They have taken care of grandparents, parents, and now, siblings alike. One phone call and they took care of my loved one. Of course they follow up to determine how to proceed (burial, cremation, and so on). As well as cost. Even if my loved one was in a different state or even country, JL&S would be able to get things taken care of, just wonderful! Working with them as I type to pre-pay my Mom's future arrangements so I don't have to stress like this time. 2 years - zero interest, in this day and age, that's a blessing. You can't go wrong with these folks.

Loss is so complicated. During a pandemic it is beyond. A few weeks ago we lost an Uncle. My family had done pre arrangements with Brian and Jon - so glad we did ! The night we got the call he had passed Brian was
compassionate and professional - it was 2 am. Brian and Jon handled everything. It was so hard to not be with our Uncle - and when I said to my husband that I thought I should drive over and just watch - he said “ Levine’s is so trustworthy they won’t let anything happen to him “. Grateful we chose Levine’s.

As very senior citizens, we recently planned and paid for our funerals. Although we expected a traumatic experience, it turned out rather pleasant.
Brian Levine came to our home twice, outlined all of our options in a friendly
and respectful manner, and then left a week between visits for us to make up our minds Since we have been to Haym Salomon Memorial Park several times, we had no reservations about choosing that park as our resting Place.

My wife and I have wanted to make our funeral pre-arrangememts with Joseph Levine and Sons because our family has always done business with them.
We were very nervous about making such arrangements, but meeting with Brian Levine helped ease our discomfort. His patience and listening skills helped us complete our plans; something that had been on our minds for quite a while.
