I ordered a custom cake (serving 40) and it was DELICIOUS!! Loved that they wrote the message in different font. The cake was fresh moist, not over the top sweet, just perfectly sweet, and buttercream frosting 😋. They were sold out of the burnt almond torte, but I bought a single serving of it, really GOOD!

I must admit that almond is not my fav things to have but seeing a few people's recommendation that this is the place to come, and their thing is almond, I guess i had to try, which we did. Wow, the Burnt Almond Torte blew my socks off. The lady was super friendly and helpful too.

Perfect service, delicious pastries and great prices. The only thing that would make it better is if they had boxes that were tougher so you could pack the pastries to go for a plane in your carry on. Prantl’s is absolutely worth checking out. I got all threes types of almond tortes and some cookies.

Drove to Pittsburgh just for the Burnt Almond Torte. Nothing else compares! The tore bar on the left is the raspberry Torte and the one on the right is the original, both are fantastic.

All I can say is Wow!!!! The toasted almond torte is all that is proclaimed to be (best cake in America!). This is the second location in Deutschtown (Pittsburgh). This has to be on your visit list for all the great pastries and the world famous tortes. So good, I would give it a sixth star if possible.

Ok not sure about everything they sell but we went for the burnt almond torte and it did not disappoint. I’m from Pittsburgh but have lived in CA for many years and have heard about this famous dessert. I had a knock off at Giant Eagle once but this is a whole other level. I always though it would be dry from the way it looks on the outside but it has custard in it and is amazing. The clerk said it is best served at room temperature which I would agree. Here’s the story of the torte.

Prantl’s Bakery has been a tradition for decades. A Pittsburgh institution, the bakery is the home of the original Burnt Almond Torte, which was acclaimed by the Huffington Post as “the best cake in America”.
In 1970, the torte was conceived by Henry Prantl after attending a national bakers conference, when 13 bakers demonstrated one good item from each of their bakeries. At the demonstration, Prantl took detailed notes when an Anaheim baker demonstrated the Burnt Almond Cake. When he got back to Pittsburgh, he altered the recipe. He changed the sponge cake to a sweet yellow cake and added custard between the layers. He topped the cake with Prantl’s famous buttercream and toasted almonds. (There was an almond surplus the same year and the Almond board was persuading bakers to use almonds in new and inspiring ways). Prantl kept the name of the cake and its square shape as it appears today.
Henry and Jane Prantl retired and sold the business in 2007. Today Prantl’s Bakery is continually acclaimed as an iconic bakery by a variety of local and national publications. Offering over 100+ bakery items, the bakery is considered one of the top bakeries in the country.

Simply amazing. I got the burnt almond tort, Cheesecake, Oatmeal raisin cookies, Lemon cookies. All were fantastic and delicious.

I really missed these guys. This is the same group of people that were downtown and they moved and took over the priori bakery on rebakery on East Ohio. So glad to see Prantl's in downtown Pittsburgh again, Or at the very least near downtown Pittsburgh again. We're so happy to have you as neighbors in the North side.

Angela provides the best service I've ever received at any bakery. All her suggestions were great from the Red Velvet cake to the Breakfast paninni.

Worth the trip, we used to visit the location on Market Square, which closed permanently and move to the Ohio street location. Fantastic cookies, thumbprints, and a seasonal favorite the
pumpkin roll.

Love the cake bars, the thumbprint cookies, and their New Years’s pretzel when it’s in season. And of course, the burnt almond torte is the best!
