I bought a set of Arne Vodder dining chairs, leather and teak - HOH had redone them and they were like new. I paid, Covid happened and requested a refund 3 weeks later - the chairs had still not been shipped and this is within the timeline allowed by federal law. I was told "They'll be shipped this Friday and I won't refund your money." They weren't shipped that Friday, that was in March. By May the chairs had still not arrived and the shipper used was being evasive about where they were. Attempts to resolve this over several months were fruitless - this is 4000 dollars worth of chairs in limbo. HOH was initially reluctant to get involved with shipping at all - for them this was now my problem. Eventually, three months later, they did get involved and the combined pressure resulted in the shipper hiring another person to do a drop ship - after 4 months of being in transit the chairs were now significantly damaged and he protected himself from liability this way. We were not notified when they would arrive (this is now June) and happened to come home while the other hired shipper was literally unloading the now significantly damaged chairs at the top of the driveway. There was no shipping manifest, the driver would not give a name or card, the van had no markings. Efforts to contact the original shipper after this was responded with a threat that he would now sue us for "harassment" because we asked for a manifest. The chairs have scratches in the legs and arms, puncture marks in two of the backs, and indentations where heavier boxes were piled against them and left for a long period of time. The chairs have custom hinges in the backs and screws, many are missing entirely. They sit in the garage in a pile, out of six chairs only one was safe to sit on by the time they arrived. Paid 4000, at this point they are worth less than 2. No insurance was taken out on the shipment. HOH initially offered to repay us the profit they. made, 500 dollars, but they never sent it. Repeated requests to get a leather sample so we can attempt to repair the tears in the leather seats was not responded to even though they apparently still have the leather.

This experience was a total nightmare.
We count it as 4 grand thrown away and learned a valuable lesson. Do not buy from HOH unless you do it through Chairish - they guarantee and insure the shipment. A search online will reveal other customers who got damaged goods by the shippers used and HOH washes their hands - or tries - when they give it to the shipper. They leave their customer hanging out to dry. It would cost about 3000 to get the chairs back into the shape they were in when we bought them - money we will never have. In all liklihood they'll rot in the garage which is a shame. Do not buy directly from HOH unless you want to risk a similar outcome, while the furniture they sell looks great when you buy that doesn't do you any good unless it's still great when you get it.
