This is an amazing place. Get a guided tour if you have the time. Angie was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the Museum. Just some of the facts:
1. Sheriff Bass Reeves made Muskogee his home after he retired from Judge Parker.
2. Girl Scout Cookies were first baked at a Muskogee High School. They were shipped to soldiers if not sold.
3. Oklahoma's first Governor was fr Muskogee.
4. Muskogee was originally spelled Muscogee. The postmistress got so many misspelled letters she changed the spelling of the town's name.
5. There is an original one-room school house. Interesting history you don't want to miss.

Just go visit!

Great museum! Large building, with a variety of interesting topics and exhibits. Including a train engine you can enter. And an old school house, which wasn't opened at our visit.
Highly recommend!

A nice museum with a great collection of local history. This was once a depot for the Midland Valley Railroad. A good way to spend the afternoon.

Learned a lot of unique historic facts about the Muskogee area, particularly James Ledbetter, Bass Reeves, and learning that muskogee was the birth place for girl scout cookies. I was impressed by the content and by the kindness of the staff. They also had a great gift shop with an awesome selection. I was just impressed with this quaint little museum. It's a must-see of your in the area.

What a great peice of history, the trains, the girl scout cookies, the three rivers and the love ranger all in one place what more could you ask for. The curator was very helpful and super informative with any questions we had. This was a nice stop during our trip to Oklahoma!

Great gem of Muskogee. A must see for a just three bucks person. Do you know where girl scout cookies first came from, yep Muskogee Oklahoma, and a huge treasure trove of other things I just didn't know.

Today the Girl Scouts were selling Cookies. What most people don't know is that That Girl Scout Cookies got their start here in Muskogee, OK.
This Museum has a lot of our area History. Past and Present. People need to visit and support everything the Museum is doing.

Was a little hard to find as there weren’t many signs. Very friendly people. Plenty of history and photo ops. Don’t miss the school house and locomotive outside in the rear. Something special about this museum is that you can go into the locomotive—most museums don’t allow this!

Has Exceptional Trolley Tours, Great exhibits, do not miss the Diesel locomotive in the back and the the period schoolhouse. Their history program (History Explorers) is second to none and now they have a entertainment and street vendors once a week. OH I would be remiss if I did not mention the tribute to the girl scouts out in front. For the serious researchers there is the archives, by special appointment.Thomas-Foreman Historic Home is part of the same group, in there do not miss the picture of the first US submarine post WWI. Many people miss the second facility it is about 2 mile away from the main. Lots of history of Oklahoma in this site. Note the water supplied to the house was via a cistern in the back. The flowers are beautiful.

I learned many unexpected things in this museum. Small but very interesting. The employee offered to open the school and the train for us even though it was almost their closing time.

This was a great little experience I took in on National Museum Day. Lots of local history. I really enjoyed the storyboards referencing how towns acquired their names.
