Boxcar Deli & Subs

We brought a group of like 25 people here and were so happy with the experience. We were able to email our order ahead of time, and they had everything ready when we arrived. They were so lovely and kind, a real pleasure to work with. They added a large patio, so there was plenty of room. They also had a Hershey's ice cream scoop shop inside which was a welcome treat. Highly recommended! :)

Quaint If you want great service and a quality meal this is the place for you. This very quaint restaurant is tucked away in the historic Railroad town of Shenandoah Virginia. As you are eating you have an amazing view Massanutten Mountain and the Blue Ridge Mountains also the reason why it's called boxcar Deli and subs is because is right across the street from Norfolk Southern Railroad Company. I highly recommend eating here you will not be disappointed. It also has a gift shop that is awesome so please try this place out it is 12 minutes some Massanutten Resort so come on by.

Wow! The staff is as delightful as the food. This hidden gem of a restaurant will blow you away with its deli selections which I found to be scrumptious and made with care. This restaurant offers a nostalgic view of the historic legacy of local trains. I will be back soon!

I was super happy to find this after a long day on the river tubing. I had the impossible burger, added a fried egg, cheese fries and the cold brew ice cream. It was perfectly cooked, delivered quickly and the service was super nice. Cute little gem with great food and people.

Super cute place! Stopped by on our way to Massanutten- we were starving and the food was so, so good! The woman who served us was also super sweet and the gift shop is adorable.

Perfect spot to pop in, the store has a bunch of neat things to look through beautifully handmade wreaths. The employees are kind and welcoming. I haven't tried anything on the menu I didn't like. Unique names for delicious sandwiches, Fresh hot foods... did I say Fresh? I suggest if you're in the area for a visit, before you eat anywhere else. Go to Boxcar. Went here for the gift shop portion and was VERY pleased! 💕 Great variety of quality items ranging from boutique style clothing, specialty children's clothing, locally made floral wreaths and floral decorative items. LOCAL gifts like Virginia peanuts. Friendly staff and great prices.

We just took our family of 5 tonight for dinner and ice cream and we all agreed we want to make it a weekly thing! Food was delicious and the staff/employees could not be nicer and more accommodating! I had a ordered the Baggage Car dog with EVERYTHING! and the owner & chef came out three times to make sure it was made how I wanted it. Could not recommend this place more!

I had the pleasure of sharing lunch with a close friend at the Boxcar Deli this afternoon and could not have been more pleased with the spectacular remodeling job, the great menu and delightful, friendly service. I have to say that I had one of the best burgers, the Gondala Burger, with high quality ingredients that I've had in a long time! The ice cream selection just couldn't be any better and their dessert choices couldn't have been more pleasing. They have a good beer, wine coolers and bottled wine selections also. Hometown pride on First Street is an obviously great choice! And, her attractive merchandise is a delight to explore!

I live in the area and I absolutely love this place! The ingredients are ALWAYS fresh and put together very well. The staff is quite welcoming and professional. It is lovely to look through the shop while my order is being made and there are a lot of nice gifts for many different occasions. Will always recommend this business to friends and family.

The food is wonderful, the people are so nice. I always come here when I pass by. Do yourself a favor and check it out. Also, great gift ideas in the giftshop.

Only ate there once, my wife is always eating from here because the food is amazing. I had a roast beef sandwich, it was very fresh and the staff are very friendly. I enjoyed reading about the history of the Luray as well, good atmosphere and I can't wait to go back.....mmh today's sounds good!

Great little sandwich shop with an awesome variety. Staff was friendly and fast. Also liked being able to walk around the attached gift shop while waiting for our food. Kid friendly :)

My family and I stopped in for lunch while driving back on a road trip. We LOVED this place. The workers prepared a wonderful lunch and you can tell put a lot of love into it. It was delicious! We wished we lived closer!

Stopped in this little deli while in the area. we were nothing less than impressed. The sandwiches were absolutely fantaatic!! Then, to top off our lunch, we had the Hersheys ice cream! Delicious!!!! We will definitely be making the 2 hour trip back just to eat here!

The food was outstanding!!! Everything was fresh and tasty. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The bread and hamburger roll were especially tasty. Highly recommended to all.

The owner prepared my husband and myself a fantastic sandwich with a broccoli salad. The salad was cut up into small manageable bite pieces and it tastes really good. I also bought a bag of Route 11 chips. All in all a fun time which brought back memories! We also took home half of our sandwich's for another meal. The lunch was reasonably price as well. The sandwiches are always tasty and the service is very friendly. I've been a bunch of times and have tried a variety of sandwiches and the Pullman is my favorite.
