We were VERY impressed with Big Pine Tree House Cabin. Gorgeous, welcoming, a magical experience. So many personalized touches (down to the vintage napkin holder!) that we kept discovering throughout our stay. The owners thought of everything for comfort, cleanliness, multiple unique views, wonderful accommodations and a unique multi-tier cabin – very well constructed. We loved the beauty offered on the grounds at the property with the peace, quiet & seclusion, yet it is centrally located to all that Hocking Hills has to offer -- the parks, hiking, etc. At one point we needed some assistance and reached out to the owners who were very quick to respond and had great recommendations – thanks! We loved our experience and stay here. We highly recommend Big Pine Tree House and we will return for another stay.

I am completely spoiled now, I will not be able to stay anywhere else! This was the best experience my husband and I have had with a vacation rental. The host was over the top accommodating and full of good information and helpful tips. She left us a bottle of champagne for our anniversary! We were so surprised and touched! The cabin itself is charming above our expectations and very clean. I've felt very much at home and comfortable in such a beautiful and clean environment. It was quiet and peaceful. The decor gave us a sense of being in a special oasis of our own. We have already made a future reservation. We had never thought of coming in the winter time but definitely think it will be just wonderful if there is a skiff of snow for us. Thank you very much Julie for a wonderful experience. We really appreciated everything you did for us. Thank you.

Our stay at the Big Pine Tree House was an incredible experience. The location is very convenient to all the 'hot spots' in the area, and just minutes from Logan. The cabin is cozy and warm. I felt at home, away from home. The owners are very kind and accommodating and not like 'drill sergeants' as with other cabins we have stayed where notes all over the cabin with do's and don'ts. If you have common sense and respect for other peoples property, these are not required, and if you don't, then you need to stay at home! The atmosphere makes you feel at home and at ease. We felt comfortable, not like we were 'invading' their space. My goal with staying away from home is to relax and breathe easy, and this is definitely possible to accomplish in this beautifully designed cabin! I highly recommend it to anyone wanting a refreshing break from it all!!

This was me and my boyfriends second time to Hocking Hills and we were just amazed at our experience at the Big Pine Tree House. As soon as we walked in our jaws dropped. There was jazz playing, a welcome sign with our names on it, a huge DVD collection, snack bars, etc. Just the architecture alone was enough to stop you in your tracks. Julie was fantastic and so kind. There are so many more positive things I could say about this place but I highly recommend to anyone looking for the best place to stay in HH. We were sad to leave but are looking forward to staying again!

Wow, wow, wow!! Another 5-star experience for my wife and I. We came back again for our 1-year wedding anniversary after spending our mini-moon here for the first-time last year and was blown away again! The owners put the extra touch on making the entire experience special. We were greeted to a special treat of champagne and chocolates, with a hand written card and chalkboard sign to welcome us back and to enjoy our stay here again. What a special touch! Not to mention entering with the XM radio playing great music. We were impressed by the improvements in decor around the place and can really tell that the owners do a great job of upkeep and consistent improvements. We especially enjoyed the Duck Dynasty daily devotional down on the entrance level! It's great to support local and small business owners especially during this worldwide crisis going on and the owners make it known that our stay is appreciated with all of the small touches that you don't see too often anymore. They keep their cleaning standards and safety precautions very high so we didn't have any concern there. We couldn't recommend this place enough for a get-away location to relax and recharge in the hills of nature! You'll enjoy the experience and could possibly find your next favorite get-away vacation spot! We can't wait to visit again.

A must experience for everyone! My husband and I came back to the Big Pine Tree House for our second time for our 1-year anniversary and almost forgot how incredible the place is as well as the special touches the owners make. The property is in excellent condition, well maintained and cleaned thoroughly. We didn't have any concern at all. You can tell Mark and Julie really care about all of their customers experiences and want to make it the best whether it is their 1st time or 100th, their effort and passion to exceed expectations is so evident! Mark's craftmanship of the house and Julie's decor with her own photography makes this place one that should be on display in a magazine! They have thought of everything one would need at a place in the woods. My husband and I are already talking about when we can go back! We know we won't be disappointed :)

This is the most perfect spot you could imagine for a little getaway from your normal life. It's tucked away from everything else, and the owners have made sure that you don't need anything else.
The cabin itself is the most beautiful piece of artwork, and Julie has decorated every room just right.
There's so much to do right in the immediate area, but it's also so easy to walk in the door and turn off the rest of the world if you want to. The fireplace and the hot tub give you the perfect end to each evening.
I've already made reservations to come back next year!

The pictures barely do it justice, this cabin is *so* beautiful, and if your goal is hiking you can’t beat the location. I had a little anxiety initially about renting directly from the owner with no intermediary like Airbnb, but billing was straight forward and Julie is an excellent host and easy to get in touch with. I’ve already recommended the place to my parents, and can’t wait to return myself!

What a uniquely beautiful cabin...a 'tree house' indeed! This special cabin is truly unique. You are surrounded entirely by rustic log details, including unique hand made stair railings. The cabin is broken into several levels which adds to it's charm, but also makes the 'no children' rule understandable (personally, we enjoyed the little break from ours! Great romantic getaway). Loved the owner's little touches, including artwork and a sweet welcome basket. Spent as much time as possible on the front deck. The windchimes were a nice touch. Clean, comfortable, and unique. Great owners. Will be back!

We had a great time at the Big Pine Tree house! It was extremely well kept; the owners were very easy to work with and kept in contact to make sure everything was going well. Julie even made a cake since I had told her it was my fiance's birthday and wrote a personalized thank you card for our stay. There is no internet or phone service (we all had verizon) which was only an issue because my sister/brother-inlaw had a babysitter to keep in touch with but we were able to drive 5 minutes down the road to keep in touch (the owners did disclose that this may be an issue before I booked which was nice). The owner was also extremely helpful with giving us ideas for hiking/things to do. Overall it was a very wonderful experience that I would highly recommend.

My brothers and I had a reunion here.
This house is amazing! The design is so unique and the decorative touches add such character. It is in a great location and the owners were very helpful and responsive to our questions. I would definitely stay here again.

The only way I can describe my experience with BPTH is magical. From start to finish Julie has gone above and beyond to make sure my girlfriend and my stay was nothing short of amazing. The property was breath taking (in more ways than one). We will certainly be coming back and from this point on I'll recommend this cabin to friends and family alike.

The only thing more enchanting than the cabin itself is the family who built it. I’ve stayed here 4 times now and can’t imagine staying anywhere else. Thank you Julie and family for always being so kind and so welcoming!

Beautiful and private cabin in the woods! Very clean and comfy having everything we needed. Just a couple things to mention - the bedroom on the middle floor gets very bright in the mornings, so if you like to sleep in, make sure to bring an eye mask. Also, there were a lot of carpenter bees while we were there, which we told the owners about. Owners were very hospitable and easy to work with. Security deposit was refunded immediately. Right across from their property, within walking distance is Salt Petre Cave....highly recommend going to see!! It was one of the highlights of our trip. It’s not as well known, so very quiet and peaceful compared to Ash or Old Man’s Cave. Had a great trip!

TL;DR: Beautiful cabin, but after an invasion of privacy, losing electricity and water for over 24 hours, and experiencing a stunning lack of hospitality from the hosts, we won't be returning.

My wife and I stayed at the Big Pine Tree House for our first wedding anniversary. We made a reservation for 3 nights, Saturday to Tuesday, and had prepared a packed schedule with several reservations. Our first night was perfect. The cabin is beautiful, with personal touches everywhere. We felt welcomed and right at home.

On Sunday, while we were away from the cabin, I received a text from the host explaining that her husband had mistakenly entered the cabin. According to the host, he did not know the booking schedule and thought we had already checked out. We were confused as we had left several unopened and personalized gifts (and multiple pairs of shoes) in the den which would have been seen immediately when entering through the front door, making it obvious that we hadn’t checked out, but he continued to walk throughout the whole cabin to turn off lights and fans. It was an invasion of our privacy and made us feel uncomfortable, as if our stay was being monitored for any wrongdoing.

We returned to the cabin at around 6:30 and found that we had lost electricity from a storm earlier in the day. We then discovered that when the electricity goes out, the water goes out, too - so the sinks and showers ran dry, and toilets couldn’t flush. Losing electricity is one thing, but access to water is a basic necessity. The power did not come back on until 9am Monday morning, but had gone out again by the time we returned around 4pm. After hearing that the new estimate was 6:30AM Tuesday morning, we decided to drove home that night.

Throughout the outage, we were in contact with the host who did provide occasional updates from the electric company. But we felt that we were on our own to figure out solutions. Not once did the host reach out to ask if we needed anything, like bottled water or information on nearby bathrooms. We had to drive to a gym and purchase a day pass to use their showers and electricity so we could get ready for a photo session we had reserved. We had to drive 20 minutes to a Wal-Mart to use their bathroom. As far as we know, the host did not maintain any stores of emergency supplies (bottled water, power banks for phones, lights). There was no backup generator to at least power the water pump so toilets and sinks could be used. We do not blame the hosts for the outage, but they were unprepared and unwilling to handle a situation that seems to happen regularly.

The host did offer a one night partial refund due to the outage. But we felt that this was not sufficient for the stress and discomfort we felt for most of our stay, as well as the many amenities we could not use. Although we believed it would be fair to request a 2 night refund (as we didn't have epectricity or water for 2 nights), we requested a 1.5 night refund as the outage was beyond their control. The host outright declined, stating that the refund they offered was a “courtesy” based on the rental agreement, which absolves them of any liability for lost amenities, including electricity and water.

The next morning we were notified that we would not be getting our security deposit back. We had mistakenly left a shower head on when the water was out and did not notice while packing and cleaning up, as it was dark. When power came back on after we left, the shower turned back on causing a leak. I apologized and explained that this was due to the chaos of leaving early and having to pack in a dark house. I didn't receive a response.

I rated 2/5 stars only because our first night was an amazing experience. But the rest of our stay ranged from disappointment to disaster. Book here at your own risk and don't expect and help or or refunds if anything goes wrong during your stay. Based on our experience and according to the rental agreement, they won't owe you a thing.
