Today, my dog, Odin and I hiked the Sleeping Lion Trail within the Glimmerglass State Park near Cooperstown NY
This trail is approx 2 miles round trip.. there was about 8 inches of snow on the ground to trudge through… Well marked with tree blazes and paint on trees. So quiet and serene and untouched today… no others wanted to brave the cold , breezy winter temps today, I guess!
Found a nicely formed berl on a tree near the trail…see enclosed pix! Very nice trail.. throughly enjoyed our walk! saw about 3 deer! Lake appears totally frozen over

Long, winding , and beautiful. Clearly marked trails even in the winter. Lots of local wildlife. Had fun but im certain my dog loved it more than I did!

Beautiful trail through the woods with challenging hills. A gorgeous view of Otsego Lake by Hyde Hall.

Wonderful 2 mile hike! Gets your heart going at the beginning with a bit of an incline but then levels off amidst the woods. Birds of all kinds can be heard along with deer and various other small creatures. Takes about an hour+ but we'll worth the exploration.

It was a beautiful place to take a hike. It's great when you finish and take a breather by the lake.

We went when the snow was deep and misjudged the cold conditions. By the time we got out, we were pretty frozen. It was a beautiful walk though and we followed a 🐻 around most of the day, we never caught a glimpse of him but we kept seeing bear signs and tracks throughout the day. It was a great hike despite the cold that I plan to repeat during better weather. The view coming out of the trail was glorious.

nice climb with the kids. LOTS of chipmunks. No real views of the lake up there, but very pleasant overall after initial climb.

Really beautiful, lovely weather. It's a 2-mile loop, but half is decently uphill and the other half is decently downhill. There is a $7 'parking' fee to getninto the park itself. I would recommend this trail. Not very disability friendly. Pretty muddy, so make sure to wear shoes you can get dirty.

I agree with most other reviews I read about the trail. It is just an average trail through the woods with not too much spectacular scenery. The beginning of the trail is a little steep but levels off quickly. The bugs were a big problem on the day we went. There are a few good views of the lake on the dirt path that leads to the trailhead. There is a 7 dollar entrance fee to get into the state park.
