I really loved living here! The administrative staff are very friendly and the maintenance staff are very responsive to maintenance requests. I loved the community feel here too. It is very family oriented with plenty of grass to play on, playgrounds, and BBQ grills. The landscaping is well kept year round, there are always plenty of fun activities put on for residents, it's close to campus, and one of the cheapest family student housing places to live. I made a lot of friends while living here and was sad when it was time to leave. I would highly recommend this place to student families.

I lived here with my family while going to UM (2011-2013). The apartments offer a lot of room at below market rate and include all utilities. Air conditioners and some appliances have an additional monthly utility charge. Parking is reasonably available and you can always find a space in one of the lots but sometimes not in the smaller lots. There is well maintained play equipment (swings, climbing structures). Laundry facilities are available in each building. Internet is not currently provided but University Internet is being implemented in 2014 (as I understand it)

Como is a Co-op, so you either do some upkeep of the public areas (~1 hour a month) or pay a higher rate. The buildings are older and that shows but maintenance does a good job of quickly responding to issues. Hot water is plentiful. Community issues are overseen by an elected board of residents, 1 per building, which directs the general manager. Board meetings are open, if sparsely attended, and monthly.

Bus service to both campuses is available, as well as bus to train to the airport. Either campus is alternately readily reached by bicycle.

There are a fair number and variety of community events.

Currently living here. Got a great 2 bedroom townhouse style apartment for only $810/month. It's a great deal for the quality of the place. I gotta vacuum the hallway once every 5 weeks and occasionally shovel for like 3 mins, and for this I get a $50 a month discount (that is, down to $810). Twice a year they have a big cleaning ceremony where I spend an hour or so picking up trash, or cleaning the gutters with my neighbors but then they give you a meal ticket for this big outdoor party with a good meal including side dishes and beer.

It's a family environment, so it feels safe and like a small community set away from the rowdy dorms. I totally recommend this place to students that are looking to stay away from bad areas and noisy neighbors.

The best place I have lived in the US! A very well maintained place, price-size relation is excellent considering all utilities and WIFI are included.
A very diverse, active and engaged community. Is a paradise for a Family with kids, lots of parks, safe environment and loads of friends to play with.
Staff is always willing to help and they organize activities for the CSCC community very often, for all ages.
Living at CSCC is a life experience you can't miss.

I lived there as a child from 1983 to 1985. It was a great place then and it sounds like it is still a great place now. I remember playing on the playground and having awesome neighbors. Several of my classmates also lived there which helped make it a family friendly community. It is wonderful to hear that it is still going strong 30 years later.

We lived in CSCC from 2016-2018 and loved our experience. We weren't able to visit prior to moving in, and we weren't exactly sure what it would be like (even though their website has lots of info and videos), but we were pleasantly surprised. The apartment was immaculate when we moved in, and the windows and carpet were all new. Some of the things we loved about CSCC were: the co-op experience (we really felt like we got to know our neighbors better than at other apartment complexes we've lived in in the past), the playgrounds, the maintenance staff (so friendly, efficient, and thorough), the office staff, the community activities (e.g., cooking classes, parties, etc.), etc. We just moved out and will really miss CSCC.

After reading some of the biased negative reviews I thought I would clarify some things for those who lack the basic understanding of living in a Co-Op or an apartment for that matter.
Cheap prices:
Before moving into CSCC, I looked for housing for over 5 months and I couldn’t find one place that was affordable AND close to campus. For its location, it’s cheap. You know why it’s cheap? Because it is a Co-Op, that’s how they keep the rent lower than many other housing options in the area. You have the option to lower your rent even more by being a stockholder. As a stockholder, you have to do some chores for your buildings. You get assigned a week once every 1 1/2 months to either clean the coreway (mainly vacuuming) or clean the laundry room (once every 3 months) in your building (mainly sweeping and wiping). The best part is YOU DON’T have to do that if you don’t want to. You just pay $100 more in your rent. So for those who complain about the cleaning, no one forced them to do it. Now if you choose to do it, you need to do it right. If you are going to clean your house but leave the trash full, would that really be cleaning? No. I. Don’t. Think. So.
Pet policy
Like any apartment complex, there is a fee that each resident must pay if they have a pet. So if you decide you want to have a pet there are rules that you need to follow. It’s that simple.
Moving Out
This IS a STUDENT HOUSING, which means that you must be a student at UMN to live there. So if you are no longer a student, they have the right to let you go. So if you are approaching graduation, act like an adult and figure things out before you are forced to leave. You are given 60 days from graduation to get your act together and move out. Unless you broke their rules multiple times then they have the right to kick you out. Again, Simple as that.
Inspection
According to their lease, they have the right to inspect your apartment WITH PRIOR NOTICE to ensure that everything works and that smoke alarms are working. Don’t worry, they are not interested in your graduate life secrets. Not sure where ppl get the whole without notice idea lol.

If you find these things concerning or feel like it will not work out for you, then be my guest and go try and find a 3 bd townhouse for less than $1100. Good Luck with that!

CSCC is a wonderful place to live. The activities which happen regularly are a fantastic way to meet neighbors, who have become my close friends. The staff really care about the well being of the residents. I frequently recommend living at CSCC to my fellow students.

Living in CSCC is like living in a building in the middle of a Minneapolis park. The community feel and the green space available made this my favorite place to live ever!! The people I met here have taught me all sorts of things, from how to make Chana Dal Vada, to how to balance on one of the co-op's free slacklines. That's right. They have free slack lines to check out, so it is really fun to do that here while grilling at one of the many grilling spots on site. Like I said, it's like living in a park! Also, Insight Brewing is right across the street... if you like Minneapolis culture, this is one of the most ideal spots to rent: international social atmosphere, city-park feel, very close to NE breweries. Highly recommend!
