Southfield City Building Department

I always have a good experience when I vist this office. I have to pull permits in a lot of cities, but Southfield has some of the best and knowledgeable service staff. I had a situation with a rental property, and Diane, Sandy, and Stacey all helped me to get my home back in good standings with the city. I appreciate all of the effort and quick responses in getting the permits and certifications. Great team of people who are working hard for the city. Keep up the good work!!

My call was returned eventually, after a bit of phone tag, and got the basic answer.
It should not be this hard!

Have to call multiple times to get someone on the phone. Terrible service. Difficult to deal with because of there ridiculous requirements they are leaving a homeowner with leaks that now cannot be addressed. Hope to never have to deal with this city in the future.

Called and followed instructions for setting up a permit inspection giving my name, address, permit number and contact number. The next day, while I'm out of the house, my visiting parents vet a ring at the door from the inspector, unannounced. When I called to find out why I wasn't informed, I was told that they "don't call to confirm when they are coming". How was i supposed to know when they were coming?

All the hoops you must jump through for a building permit and pay money to the city. Been waiting on my bond money refund for 7 weeks. They need the money upfront when you want to do a project but when the tables are turned they have every excuse in the book.

the service from this building department is disappointing. they don't return phone calls, permitting is slow & inefficient, and the inspectors are are rude and ill informed about their community. it makes it difficult and frustrating to do business with this city.

Grodan drive street needs to be resurfaced please. This street is terrible

They let slumloards get away with everything. Don't do rental inspections even with major health code violations.

Most complicated city. Terrible customer service in Building department!!!! I hope I won't need deal with them in the future.

May as well not exist at all. Repeated efforts at phone communication left me on hold forever. Very poor resident service.

The building department is a joke. It's takes weeks to get anything done, what other cities would have accomplished in minutes.

Department is full of liars.
