Paying a visit to the 'home' of Rocky Mountain Antique Quilts is truly like visiting behind the scenes of the Americana Collection at the Smithsonian Museum, with often brilliantly colored quilts at your literal finger-tips even though though most seem to be well over 100 years old and actually to 200 years and quite possibly beyond. They are not secured behind locked glass as one might expect but, instead, are directly out in the open and very touchable. Therefore, realizing this, it is no surprise that a visitor is first directed to a hand-washing station and even requested to wear gloves before handling any of the quilts. The presence of fast-food ketchup and grease and the like on even well-meaning strangers coming in the door must be presumed and guarded against -- just like 'behind the scenes' at The Smithsonian.

As to the quality and the variety of the quilts available for viewing and sale, they are simply remarkable -as is readily seen by the quilts offered on the website.
The owner "Betsey' is a font a knowledge who 'sells' with truly verifiable facts and not just 'creative writing' as do so many.
I can personally attest to the precise accuracy of the descriptions and representations having both been physically a 'guest visitor' / shopper on-site as well as over the years having purchased at least -10- quilts, all over 100 years old and most
150 years old, and more. EVERY one of the quilts requested arrived in a condition and with qualities actually better than described. She is also immediately responsive even to general inquiry, such as when recently I really needed technical assistance cataloguing and identifying with particularity -- especially regarding pattern variations- as well as dating the ones in my wife's antique quilts collection.

In short, I both recommend 'Betsey' and her Rocky Mountain Antique Quilts absolutely, without hesitation or reservation as the quilts offered have always been truly exceptional,
AND I endorse their up-front directing visitors to a hand-washing station to protect the integrity of the such rarified goods for both the visitor and all those interested in the same quilt[s] that follow.

Rocky Mountain Quilts collection of antique and vintage quilts did not disappoint and included a rare and elegant victorian crazy quilt constructed from silk velvet. Such a beauty! The shop, and owner Betsey's expertise, are a great find for the serious antique quilt lover.

We paid a visit to Rocky Mountain Quilts on a recent visit to York and what an experience. Absolutely gorgeous quilts and the owner is incredibly knowledgable. What a treat!

Just stopped in "for a quick look"...we ended up staying longer. The quilts are amazing and I don't understand why anyone is offended when asked not to touch. When you go to a museum, you cannot touch. Your skin has oils that can and will stain. Just look at your cell phone screen and you'll see the greasy prints left behind. Please respect that this is Betsey's passion and life's work. She was very pleasant and a joy to talk with. I will be bringing my antique quilt to her for appraisal for sure.

My husband and I stopped by because we needed assistance with a quilt. Betsy was very helpful and knowledgeable. We were happy to leave our quilt with her for restoration.
We look forward to stopping by the next time we are in the area. We enjoyed her knowledge and the time she spent with us - thank you 😊

I've been waiting for years to meet Betsey and to visit Rocky Mountain Quilts. Several years ago she accomplished what I thought was impossible: she restored a homespun quilt from near death to vitality. My quilt now covers the bed like moss growing on a rock. As magnificent and variegated is her quilt shop, Betsey herself is as gracious and cool as can be imagined. It was an experience I won't forget and I can't wait to have again

Both Betsey Telford-Goodwin and Rocky Mountain Quilts are truly national treasures. Betsey has incredibly knowledge - not just with regard to quilts but to textiles overall. Her quilt and restoration shop is filled with ever more beautiful quilts, fabrics, etc. - everything from homespun to Amish (and every- and anything in between). Her store is pristine and absolutely COVID compliant - you should shop there with complete confidence. The hardest part of your visit to Rock Mountain Quilts will be NOT making a purchase! (We made three!)

What an awesome place! Betsy is a delight and incredibly knowledgeable. She spent over two hours with me and patiently showed me quilt after quilt until I decided which one to add to my budding collection. For any quilt collector or fiber lover Rocky Mountain Quilts is an adventure that you do not want to miss. It is pure joy for the eyes and it will feed your artistic soul. I will dream in technicolor quilt patterns for months now. If I could give it 6 stars I would.

Friends suggested that I make use of my wife's dozens of flannel shirts to create a memory quilt.
two years after her death, I saw an article in Yankee Magazine about Betsey Telford-Goodwin's creative enterprise. She and Lisa were most hospitable when I arrived with sixty flannel shirts and in short order we had selected the Roman Bars pattern, the proper size, two pillows and a Belly Bear.

Six weeks later the finished product arrived here in Pennsylvania. The 68 by 88-inch quilt exceeded my expectations. The machine quilting was carefully executed, the color selected was complementary, and the artistry my wife would have admired.

A bit unfriendly. All visitors (adults included) are told abruptly to keep their hands in their pockets and touch nothing! No doubt the owner is knowledgeable about antique quilts and the selection is large but the "icy" reception is a non-starter for me.

My daughter and her boyfriend stopped by the quilt shop only to be met OUTSIDE by the owner who was obviously sizing them up. She asked what "price range" they were looking for in a quilt, still outside. My daughter said she was not looking to purchase but had an interest in quilts as I collect and make them. The owner said her quilts were in the "$600 to $10,000.00 range". How rude! I own a business, and would NEVER treat patrons that way, looking to buy or not!

My 2 friends, my sister and I stopped be Rocket Mountain Quilts for the first time. I saw Betsey (owner of shop) with her 2 cats and dog. I have been quilting for 40 years and was happy to share my knowledge about quilting. I told Betsey that I hand quilt, run hooking and wool applique.
Betsey stood up and told me that all her quilts are from the 1700's and 1800's and must not be touched.
I told her that I enjoy making quilts with civil war reproduction prints. She told me that is against the law to use reproduction fabric. I also said that our quilt guild and all others use white gloves before we touch any quilt. Betsey said that is wrong, and I need to go into the bathroom and wash my hands before I touch any quilt. If I am willing to touch any quilt, I must agree to pay the price of thousands in front of the quilt.
I told her that I have chinze fabric at home. She told be just a small 12 x 14 is hundreds, and mine is not real chinze fabric. She was not interested in hearing about my quilts or knowledge of quilting.
PS: I did not like the fact that she had cats and a dog in the shop with valuable quilts.

I will never go back, and I hope to share this with all other quilters.

I went to this shop with great expectations with three of my friends. The first thing we noticed was two cats laying on piles of fabrics or quilts. Surprising! The owner than came into the room and proceeded to tell us we were not to touch anything in the room we were in which consisted mostly of finished quilt tops that were available for purchase. This instruction was not given lightly! She then told us we could touch things in her quilter's room BUT we had to each wash our hands with soap and water befor we could do anything else. Again, not given lightly! These were her demands to put it mildly! She had told us we could touch the things in this room. My friend pointed out a penny rug and she touched it by pointing to it. She was reprimanded strongly by the owner for touching it. My friend left the store at that point. The rest of us followed. I have never been to a shop that treated me like a preschooler and made us feel so unclean! I will never go back to this shop! The owner should take lessons in how to treat customers. She was overbearing and extremely rude!

The most unprofessional business I’ve ever been to. Owner is very rude and out of her mind. Uneducated.
