Tab's Cafe

This little corner cafe is a great hidden gem in the heart of downtown Alton! The atmosphere is wonderful, and so is the food love that we are supporting a local small business and the people that run it are very pleasurable to deal with! Come check this place out Alton!!!

Hands down the best Philly Cheese I have ever eaten. And I am 54. My fiance had the enormous burger and it filled him up. By the way he is 6'6". If you love jazz this is your joint.

The garlic parmesan wings were very delicious and seasoned very well. The fries were also delicious, as well as the chef salad. This was my first visit and will definitely not be my last. The atmosphere and the service was very welcoming and friendly

Me and my boyfriend came into Alton for the day to walk around and have lunch. We did not have set plans on where to eat, so when we came here we were rolling the dice. I loved everything about this place. The man at the front was very nice and attentive. The music was a great addition to the atmosphere. I had a bacon egg and cheese croissant, hasbrowns with cheese and my boyfriend had mozzarella sticks. We wanted something quick to eat and it was just that. The breakfast sandwich was perfect. A lot of breakfast places have their croissants come out with a bunch of grease like it was pressed on a grill full of grease but this breakfast sandwich was not like that. It was perfectly baked and cooked and not overdone with butter or oil. If I lived here, it would be hard not to eat here every day!

First time there. Great food. Really. Their cheeseburger was great. Really. ...and the fries came out hot! My wife had the Philly Cheesesteak and loved it. Good to know they're there. We'll be back.

Food was DELICIOUS and HOT- made fresh and fast, so flavorful. Owners were so friendly and attentive, atmosphere was very welcoming and comfortable. What a great addition to our town.

Their chicken strips are huge. The biggest ones since before 2020. Taste awesome and the fries were seasoned perfect, no other fries compare in surrounding areas. Prices are worth it. Thanks for a lovely lunch, Tab's Cafe.

We were looking for a place for lunch on Saturday around Alton . I noticed Tab's Cafe had a 4.9 . This is a severe underrating . Tabs is definitely a 10 out of 5 . We noticed large portraits of blues greats on the walls and a bands instruments set up in the small place . The guys at the next table got up and took their places . The NGK band proceeded to play these guys are good really good the food was outstanding also one of the best burgers I ever had . It was way more than we had expected . My girlfreind and I go around looking for places to eat . I had picked this on maps quickly without reading what was there as we left she said to me . Well I think that is the best place we have been you hit a home run . I have to agree but it was a complete and very pleasant surprise. I highly recommend if you are hungry and around Alton Tabs is the place you need to go.

Loved the bacon breakfast sandwich on a croissant! Nice little cafe with to go coffee cups available and good music playing. I will be back!!

I love her chicken and waffles. The food is great and so is the service. Hats off to Tab and hubby. Tag team.

Today was our first time trying it out. The food was fantastic! I wanted the shrimp and grits but they were sold out so I got the spicy chicken sandwich instead and it was SO GOOD! My son got the regular chicken sandwich and he was pleased with hid as well. Sitting there eating he told me, "Mom, this is the best weekend I've ever had!" Thanks for helping me make this the best weekend my son has ever had! We will definitely be back again!

What a wonderful addition to Alton's mom n pop owned restaurants. Chicken Philly cheese steak was delicious! Chicken was tender and so flavorful. The shrimp n grits had good amount of shrimp and plenty of butter. Fries were well seasoned and mozzarella cheesesticks weren't the typical frozen prepackaged junk. We'll definitely be back to try breakfast.

Me and family went we all tried something different I had biscuit and gravy wife had Philly and daughter had cheeseburger 🍔!!! Alll delicious 😋

Nice and clean place. The gentleman running the front was very friendly and on top of everything. The food was amazing. Good home cooking! Husband had chicken and waffles and I had the biscuits and gravy. We will be back and highly recommend!

Ordered the philly cheese stake it was a lot more then I expected and it was delicious. 😋
Prices are very affordable wish I'd come here sooner.
