Highly recommended if you are a tea drinker and homemade pastries. The cafe is owned by a very hospital couple. Drinking some British tea in authentic British cups and saucers, with a peaceful sound background of two water fountains in a cozy backyard make everything perfect to enjoy your time there. The garden is beautifully manicured and shows good care behind it. When we were leaving, the owner was getting ready to make ready the dough for the next day's pastries. Good feeling!

Lovely, lovely place! Michael is kind and attentive.

You can order a big pot of hot tea with cream and sugar and it’s served in delicate cups and saucers—this is everything I want in a tea room.

There are gluten free options available as far as food, including a satisfying shepherd’s pie. I highly recommend the gluten free scones with clotted cream and lemon curd.

I’ve been here many times and it’s always been a fantastic experience. Good for a date or spending time with family members.

I'll definitely be back, and I live over an hour away! The gentleman who runs this place is extremely friendly and accommodating. There's a gorgeous garden out back with plenty of seating for larger groups. We had English tea and an assortment of sweets/pastries and loved all of it. If you're looking for something nice to pair with the tea, try the scone with lemon curd. The menu seems traditionally English which is a fun change of pace from other cafes. Coming here is an awesome way to spend part of a day!

Great spot for a bit of authentic British fare in a cozy spot. I had a lovely afternoon tea and my hubby tried the haggis and mash as well as the steak and potato pie. Everything was delicious. The lemon curd is homemade and absolutely to die for! The owner, Michael, is very friendly and welcoming and the waitress was very attentive. Can't wait to visit again.

If you’re looking for authentic British comfort food or afternoon tea look no further, the food at Café Anglais is exactly what you might find if invited to your Aunt’s home for tea in the garden, home made with care and attention to detail. English food tends to have a reputation for blandness, but this is not, in fact, the case as Cafe Anglais proves beautifully. Meals are filling, savory and comforting. Desserts are tender and not overly sweet. The owner/chef is a delightful gentleman. Excellent value for the money. Highly recommend a visit and be sure to reserve in advance for a full afternoon tea as those are specially prepared. Cream teas are available without reservations.

Wife and I had lived in England for a few years and tea houses were one of the things we missed. We decided to try a couple and we started here.
I ordered a small quiche and regretted it almost immediately. I will only order the large one from now on. The food is made fresh and I simply couldn't get enough of it. It is a relaxed environment, no fast food, so plan on it being a longer affair.
The owner is really nice. We sat down inside and he talked to us for a couple minutes while our scones were baking. He encouraged us to enjoy the seating in the garden for the last half of our meal and it was great, very relaxing.
Final thoughts. If you are looking for a quick meal, this is not the place to go. Come here to relax and enjoy time with good friends and good food.

We've eaten here three times so far. The food is not inexpensive but it is reasonably priced for the quality and taste, and the experience. Their tea and coffee are excellent! The young woman who waited on us was sweet and attentive. The owner is very friendly and welcoming. Well worth visiting, especially if you want to experience real English food.

We go to Cafe Anglais several times a year and it remains one of our very favorite restaurants in the Frederick area. It's a small, charming British tea room with whimsical paintings on the wall and a picture of Queen Elizabeth looming large in the room. We invariably get the Shepherd's Pie with Mushy Peas, as we did today, which is always delicious. The British tea is great and is served in a decorative pot with matching cups. I always buy a box to take home, usually Yorkshire brand which I enjoy the most.

We go during the week which is not as busy as the weekend so we can talk with the owner, Michael Harrison, a native Englishman who enjoys sitting down with his customers to chat just like he would any friend. We really look forward to talking to him when he's not too busy. In nice weather, there's charming garden out back which is a nice spot to have lunch.

We've tried other menu items such as the Fish and Chips, Bangers and Mash which are good, but always come back to the Shepherd's Pie (lamb) or Cottage Pie (beef). Desserts including eclairs and scones are made by Michael and are very good also.

The selection of regional meals was wonderful. We had the Shepherd's pie and it was equal to the best I've ever had in Ireland. The tea was excellent and the same brand I enjoyed there. Then the homemade scones with cream and jam--- Yum!

This place is truly exceptional. Everything we tried was tasty and authentic (and we tried a lot), the owner was incredibly friendly. The lemon curd is some of the best I've had. The garden out back is peaceful and so lovely. It was so good we went back the next day! Check it out!!

Good tea - tasty comfort food - friendly owner

The tea is standard black tea, but it's good and doesn't leave that tannis flavor in your mouth.

The food is British comfort food: cottage pies, fish and chips, bangers and mash, etc. They were medium portions, and they were very tasty! My wife loved the scone, which is plain but moist.

The owner was personable and engaging. He talked with us and we never felt rushed.

Come here for afternoon tea and scones or a tasty lunch! A little slice of England in downtown Frederick.

The restaurant wasn't supposed to be open today, but Michael, the owner, saw me looking in the window and said he'd open for us since I said I was interested in the haggis. Had a great meal and an even better conversation! What a really great guy and a wonderful little spot in downtown Frederick! Highly recommend

I absolutely love this place and wish I lived close enough to come more often. Delicious food proves that British food is actually quite tasty! The scones are soft and tasty and scrumptious. They even have decaf tea, which means I can have a cuppa without getting a migraine.

This is a charming tea room on the main drag in downtown Frederick. Run by real Brits, you can see the level of effort put into their food and drink offerings. The tea was prepared just about perfectly for my taste, and the food was quite good; their beef and kidney pie and their shepherd's pie were both tasty. The interior is small but pleasant; you could hear the Premier League game from the kitchen area. Even better, their food items can be purchased to go at a discount; I bought six of their pies. The only downside for me was that the temperature inside was too high; I left the place bathed in sweat. (Of course, drinking hot tea didn't help.) Still, this is a delightful little place, with a friendly and chatty proprietor, and a worthy addition to the Market Street shops and restaurants.
