David, our P.A., is the best! He is very caring, professional and knows his profession. The office staff are very pleasant, professional.
and are efficient. We are pleased that we can always be seen in an emergency situation.

I have been going there for over 10 years and have NEVER had any problems with anyone there! David Williams, P.A. always takes excellent care of me! He takes his time listening to anything I may be having a problem with and responds with whatever needs to be done. He discusses with you, not at you and we figure out my options together! David is VERY knowledgeable and if he doesn't have an answer to your question, ( which is rare), he'll find it immediately!! He discusses lab work with you and offers suggestions as to how to improve if your labs aren't right on. I find him to be a very kind and caring practitioner. I would never go anywhere else. Also, the front office staff
is amazing. Lisa and Terrie are very friendly, quick to call in prescriptions and are very accommodating in making appts. They make sure I have what I need before I leave the office. Maria, the medical assistant is also very thorough and friendly, making sure my chart is correct and up to date. These people making negative remarks baffle me as I have NEVER felt anything but good in this office!

I saw Dr. David, when I moved back to Flagler Beach, HE was WONDERFUL, BUT... his Receptionist, was ultra RUDE, & INSULTING-when I discovered I had left my wallet at home . She said to me " Do you go to Target & load up your cart, then tell them you forgot your wallet? " I went the 4 miles back to home & grabbed a few hundred dollar bills, and shoved them at her.... the next thing I knew, I got a letter in the mail, saying, my business was not wanted there. AND MY DOCTOR NEVER EVEN KNEW WHAT THEY HAD DONE!!!! I was SO happy going there, when I saw him, he was very very nice to me. The girls running the office though- are moronic twits.

PA David Williams and the .nurse Mike are very kind and knowledgeable. The office staff are also very kind. David gets to the bottom of what's ailing you. He takes his responsibilities as a P A seriously. He cares about his patients.

There are several levels of problems with Island Doctors. First, most patients are HMO patients, as my relative was.

Please—if you are on a MedVantage HMO program, SWITCH TO A PPO. There is at least one insurer that you can use that offers a PPO program during Medicare's enrollment period.

HMOs are notoriously picky gatekeepers. If you are not sick, an HMO may sound like a great option. When you need care—esp specialist care—it is NOT.

Second, Hinman has worked to expand Island Drs. That in itself is not a problem. But my relative was with them for approximately a decade, and during that time ID gained a virtual monopoly over Flagler County. There are currently only two other PCPs who accept Humana MedVantage HMO in the county.

This means that if ID is your PCP, they call all the shots. ID now has contracts w/ specialists where you can only see THEIR specialist—no one else.

Third, Hinman and ID and most of their medical staff will NOT give referrals when you are sick. Even though the specialist referral you seek is one that is listed as a participating provider with Humana, ID will NOT allow you to see them. If you can get a referral at all, it will be to THEIR specialist.

This is not just our experience; my relative's cardiologist told us that he has personally argued w/ ID's PCPs time and again when his patients needed a referral to another specialist--and ID simply refused to issue the referral.

In short, ID has made itself yet another layer of red tape in the already limited HMO world.

They don't work FOR you, or even WITH you. They work AGAINST you.

I am writing on behalf of my husband, Dave. He was seeing David Williams, PA, and just saw Dr. Acousta, yesterday. Dave feels the office has been going down hill over the past several years. He has had to get records that were supposed to be sent by Island doctors on his own because they were never received. In one instance, if Dave had not gotten the ultra-sound report from the hospital and brought with him to Flagler Memorial Hospital in St. Augustine, Dave would not have been able to have the aspiration of a tumor on his thyroid that we went up there for! The hospital never got the records from Island Doctors. Dave brought to David Williams attention in December during a routine visit that he had a lump on his neck. He was told by the PA that it was nothing and just watch it. The PA never scheduled a follow-up visit in a month or two to recheck it nor told him if it changed in any way to come right back!
As a result by the time action was taken, the tumor had grown to 7cm on his thyroid and was down below his collar bone. During surgery they found it was cancer and now he is facing radiation etc.

While there yesterday to get a referral to radiation oncology group (since insurance is HMO), which surgeon wanted ASAP to get test to determine if cancer has spread, we were told by staff, we don't have anyone here that can do a referral today. Someone should be here tomorrow! And they acted like we were really putting them out!! Plus we waited over an hour, with an appointment, when there was no backlog of patients in the waiting room or patient rooms. We were told they were waiting for a copy of the surgery biopsy from the hospital only to find out it had been sent to Cleveland clinic for 2nd review and would not be available until the end of the week.

I am sorry to have to write this, but I would NOT recommend this group to anyone unless they get their act together in the future. I post this so hopefully someone else will NOT have to go thru what my husband did!

I had several bad experiences with island doctors which included Flagler and Palm Coast offices. Not too long ago I wrote a review regarding Dr Acosta who literally forced my arm behind my back when I had a frozen shoulder. This review is gone. It disappeared. There were other reviews regarding Dr Acosta and how she mis treated someone's mother. I don't see that one any longer either. How does this happen?
I was also required to see an ophthalmologist because I was being put on medication that could affect my vision and required special testing. Top guy, Dr Hinman, refused to give me that referral and instead told me to just walk into an optometrist office for my exam . PA is smart but is stingy with referrals and if it not his way it's the highway.

The worst do not use them my wife has lung cancer and no less than 4 doctors her specialist requested a pet scan and they refuse to issue a referral since January they turned her specialist down every time. Please if you are sick find another doctor. And in Flagler beach office you will see PA. 95% of the time. We are leaving them now that it’s new enrollment time. Again the worst care we ever received. It’s so bad one of the specialist told us to get a lawyer. Not only that on more than one occasion other doctors that we see bad mouth them and told us to run like hell you no it’s bad if another doctor bad mouth another doctor You been warned bob. Ps. Also the other doctors even called them and told them she needs the scan and got nowhere with them even after a specialist and lung surgeon called them and told them she needs the test they said no.

These Doctors push and push the use of statin drugs. Signs all over the offices on the benefits of statins, nothing about the side affects. Or the misleading facts posted by the drug companies. You tell them your not interested in taking the statin drug and they still push. i’ll be finding a new doctor‘s office soon.
