St. John's United Church of Christ

I had grown up in the United Church of Christ [UCC] but became a Quaker more than thirty years ago.

Each summer, several of us from Columbus travel to Bluffton University to attend the Annual Sessions of Lake Erie Yearly Meeting [LEYM], a regional association of Quakers from most of Ohio, southern Michigan, and western Pennsylvania.

Several minutes before we have arrived at Bluffton University, I am always glad to see St. John's United Church of Christ with its "God is still speaking" and "No Matter Who You Are Or Where You Are On Life's Journey, You're Welcome Here" messages clearly displayed on the front of the building.

I also appreciate seeing the wheelchair ramp on the side of the building that allows those with limited mobility to enter a building that otherwise would be inaccessible because of steps.

I would like to visit St. John's United Church of Christ in Bluffton some time when I am already in Bluffton but there is very little free time to do that -- especially on First-Day [Sunday] mornings -- during our Quaker gathering that is occurring only a few blocks away.
