We were hoping to go to Allegheny from a stay at Holiday valley but it was raining so we settled for this place. But wholly mholly this was not settling. The rock formations you can explore are amazing. We felt like it was another planet and a secret gem in this area.

An amazing experience. The trail marked with white paint was about a mile long and manageable for my young children (our youngest is 4). There were so many exciting crevices, tunnels, and overhangs to explore. We could have spent hours just on that trail climbing and exploring.

The road to the parking loop isn't maintained from November to early Spring. We went mid November and the drive was bumpy and slow.

There were no restrooms of any kind. There were a few picnic tables under cover near the parking loop.

This was an absolutely amazing day trip of hiking and exploring!

The rim trail, further down the road, gives you some amazing views of the forest from the top of some rocks. It wasn't a hard hike, but was quite muddy and slippery after a rain.

A great time today, such a cool spot! A little know area north of Salamanca and south of Ellicottville. Large stones and narrow pathways. A great family adventure or go for the day... Walk carefully on the edges of the stone, as it is a bite of a drop. Also wear boots or shoes that you don't mind getting dirty... Except to spend an hour or two climbing, hiking, and crawling... If you dare... LOL.

The Rock City State Forest Park is surrounded with rock formations that are large rocks with narrow pathways. The shortest hiking trail was 16 minutes (0.7miles). It's a great place for birding and hiking but you can also enjoy solitude.

Really nice place to hike and enjoy the scenery and the rock formations are incredible to climb on and around. Small caves to explore and crevises to squeeze into. Getting here does require driving on gravel roads for miles, they do at least seem decently maintained but you should make sure you have decent tires before going especially if it is wet or rained recently.
There are several different markings to follow, red and white painted markings that are easy to follow. The shortest hike are the yellow discs which is supposed to be only .7 miles but with the rock formations we spent almost 2 hours exploring. The discs also aren't well placed, the final disc to indicate the way was really a few feet onto a different trail that we followed for maybe 1/10 of a mile before going back and taking the right way.
The paths aren't groomed so bring a walking stick if you're not sure footed and wear decent shoes.

We were camping around the corner at Seneca CC, when we decided to look around and see what else there was and we found these camp sites. I love that they have a shelter and the porta potty right there. We stayed for labor day weekend and it was busy but because the sites are back a bit it was pretty quiet. We hiked rocks and all around there are trails everywhere you look. This is a must stay for free camping.

Love this place! It's like a secret hide away. Hiking abounds and there are plenty of ancient stone giants to wonder around. Marvel at the trees as they grow through and around the rocks, their roots hanging down the edges, reaching for the earth. There's another place nearby with the same name but you have to pay and it's privately owned. Save your money or donate to the NYS parks or DEC to help sustain the area for future generations. There are picnic spots around with bbq and picnic tables so you can spend the whole day!

Plenty of trails here for hikers to explore! Family friendly most not too hard to negotiate. You can go a little ways and see huge boulders. Or you can keep going, the trails are well marked.

Very well maintained, and clean. Plan to come early as to find a spot, it's usually PACKED most holidays or major events! Please carry out what you carry in, and enjoy, as well as be safe among the rocks and forest!!!

This is another one of those NYS gems. Be prepared with water and long sleeves and oants. It can get real muddy so bring a spare pair and enjoy the vistas. Children need assistance - go with a hiking pack and have some fun.

Little Rock City is a small section of Little Rock State Forest. This is a magical tree canopied spot consisting of large square rocks separated by slot canyons and covered with ferns and moss.
