A phenomenal place for a proposal!

Stunning views outdoors with beautiful decor inside. Upscale, inviting, with an incredibly friendly, accommodating staff. The breakfast was better than I could have imagined- the potatoes literally melt in your mouth and OJ was fresh squeezed. Before our stay my fiancé informed the staff that he was proposing, so not only was our room immaculate and had a lovely refreshment arrangement…but there was a thoughtful decorative towel display on our bed. The jetted tub in our room was big enough for two, and with candles romantically placed around it, I felt completely pampered.

The Manor has so much charm and warmth, I didn’t want to leave, and can’t wait to go back.

I highly recommend the Manor for any event you may have! We rented out their space for my sister's bridal shower and were extremely impressed with the renovations/improvements they have done as well as the amazing service. We were able to make the space our own for the day and they couldn't have been more accommodating. Hannah the owner was so great to work with leading up to, as well as during the event. The space is beautiful with brand new farm tables adding to the character the dining room already has and of course the food was amazing as well. Truly can't say enough great things about our experience with the staff and space at the Manor!

My wife and I stayed here in the Churchill room which is very traditional yet spacious and very updated, especially the bathroom! So beautiful. Their new event hall is amazing and built for events like weddings, Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas parties, and corporate events. I was not aware of Holderness BUT now I know this destination and the added extras.

Our lunch was fabulous! The crab bisque soup was amazing followed by soba noodles with fresh tuna with Herb Provence. To top it off - the best strawberrry shortcake I have ever had! Fresh crème, fresh strawberry's and mint from the garden. Chef Caroline will make The Van Horn Estate (The Manor) a dining destination on Squam!

My husband and I just spent our wedding weekend staying and eating at The Manor on Golden Pond and had the most wonderful weekend! We stayed in The Oxford, which was recently remodeled/updated, and proved to be 5 stars in our book. The food was also absolutely delicious. We are definitely looking forward to our next stay in the near future! Thank you for taking good care of us.

Overall a great place. We spent two nights there. We stayed in the Windsor room. View is awesome over the lake. Room is a little dated, but not bad. It is a very old building, and it takes a lot to keep it up. We were there in early December. Windows are a little drafty. Fireplace worked great. Bed was good, but a little stiffer than I like. We ate at the restaurant one night. Food was really good. It is a little pricey, but worth it. Staff was really friendly and helpful. Breakfasts are really good. They ran out of stuff on second day, seemed like some bad planning. Never seen a salt and pepper chess board.

Beautiful, upscale inn located near Squam lake. Special added touches is what made our stay amazing. Gourmet breakfast (eggs Benedict were awesome). Exquisite woodwork and craftsmanship ship throughout! We stayed in the Norfolk with all the amenities: private deck with views of lake and mountains, private jacuzzi, and fireplace. We were treated like royalty. Service was an A+ from our host, our waitress and the owner, Brian!

I can’t say enough great things about this hotel. I just stayed here the last two nights for my best friends wedding and it was a very busy weekend but this hotel was so nice to come back to and sleep and eat! The owner of the inn and all of the staff we encountered were amazing. I also come from the hospitality industry so I truly appreciated everything they did for us as we were kind of a needy group. The rooms are beautiful, the breakfast was amazing (especially the home fries!), the shower water pressure is phenomenal and the pool is also so nice if you have time to use it during your stay. I’m sad I have to go home today but looking forward to one more breakfast in bed :) Thank you for a great stay!

I just got home from a Weekend stay at the Manor on Golden Pond. From the moment we checked in till the moment we left everything was incredible. Brian and Mary Ellen were incredibly accommodating and gave us great advice and recommendations! In fact Brian had suggested we try the Van Horn Dining Room and I was skeptical at first since I lived in Manhattan and now in Boston and eat out all the time. Let me tell you, it did NOT disappoint one bit. The ambiance, food, and service were spectacular and I can see why it has received so many awards over the years. I had the seared Tuna which was done to perfection. I highly recommend you try the restaurant during your stay or even if you are just in the area! We stayed in the Mayfair room which was decorated to perfection and spotless upon our arrival. In addition, it had a sliding glass door which led to a deck with fantastic views of the lake and mountains. After a day out hiking or just being in the mountains you should stop in to the Three Cocks Pub and have yourself a cocktail with great atmosphere. he Manor is now our "Go To" place in the Lakes Region and we look forward to our next visit. I highly recommend the Manor on Golden Pond!!!

For me, the inn earned four stars for its charm and location. Rare in what's largely a summer resort area, the Manor reeks of old school authenticity. Sure - the building needs a refresh, but the rooms were spotless, the bathrooms recently renovated, and the bed was so comfortable. The location is simply unmatched. It was the perfect spot for a 48-hour solo getaway.

The dining experience earned them the fifth star in my book.

The new(?) chef's menu is ambitious and true to the area, featuring local fruits and vegetables, and some very-executed dishes. The summer salad, the seared sushi-grade tuna appetizer, and the steak dish stood out. And the equally ambitious wine list was very fairly priced.

The three servers - who'd clearly been working together for ages - were so pleasant, so attentive, and worked so hard to create an upscale-bordering-on-formal summer experience in the era of COVID-19.

A couple of hours in the wood-paneled dining room, with a gentle summer breeze, watching other couples enjoy birthdays and anniversaries, was just perfect.

There were a few opportunities for improvement, but most were attributable to the absolutely devastating effect of the pandemic. As a fellow small business owner, I get it ... and these folks are putting their resources exactly where they should - safety, cleanliness, and guest experience. Everything else can wait.

The Manor on Golden Pond will forever be a special place in our hearts. The grounds itself are absolutely beautiful. We stayed in the Cambridge room, where it was cozy and relaxing. The food was so delicious. Breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner were all so yummy. Brian and his wife went above and beyond for our special engagement night. Brian helped my fiancé set up the most perfect engagement. They were so nice and accommodating with every request. The views from the estate are gorgeous. We cannot wait to visit again for our anniversary!

I arrived at the Manor and was immediately taken back by the view and splendor of the Grand entrance. Inside the House is a marvel of comfortable sitting areas, and refined finished wood work. But what puts my experience over the top is the warm and welcome service. My daughter was also coming to the Manor in her car from NYC. On the way up the muffler detached from the tail pipe! She arrived in a frantic panic after listening to the rattle and rumble for hours. I asked the Inn Keeper Brian for some advice and to my amazement he replied by saying let me have a look...I think we can take care of it. To say I was surprised would be an understatement. Not only did he take care of it.... he was so accommodating that our weekend at Squam Lake wasn't even interrupted !! I am for ever thankful, loved my room and can't wait to come back!!

One of the best inns I have stayed so far. Everything was amazing. Food, service, rooms (some have real fire places), location. My only regret is to not have booked more nights.

I and my then-boyfriend spent a weekend celebrating our five year anniversary at the Manor last month and left as fiance's! ❤

Our experience there was just perfect. The hospitality was top-notch, the food was delicious, the entire Manor warm, charming and cozy, and the entire staff truly went above and beyond to make our stay special after hearing our big news. It was an expensive trip for sure as we stayed in the Churchill room (fireplace, jacuzzi, double shower and a view overlooking the mountains and lake!), took advantage of on-site massages in the spa and enjoyed a dinner at their 4-star on site restaurant but without a doubt 100% worth every penny. We could not recommend them more!

Thank you, Brian and Mary Ellen - we will cherish the memory of that weekend for the rest of our lives together. We will definitely be back!

Brian was an amazing host for our small wedding. He made sure everything was taken care of and was so flexible to make everything work! Definitely returning for our 1 year anniversary and many years to come. Views that can't be beat and such a cozy atmosphere.

Excellent weekend getaway choice. Our room is fantastic (Avon room, jacuzzi and fireplace), the people here are friendly and helpful, and the included breakfast was perfect. We enjoyed massages at the on-site spare as well and dinner is coming up next. Highly recommend for a romantic weekend getaway!

My husband are new to New Hampshire and now live a scenic 30 minute drive from the Manor on Golden Pond. I suggested we try it to celebrate my 62nd birthday in early December. I fell in love with the property. It takes you back in time. We enjoyed an absolutely wonderful and delicious birthday dinner. I will always want to celebrate my birthday at Manor on Golden Pond...lovely and quiet. High on the hill.

Great experience. Get ready for a quiet weekend because this place has no cell service (which we loved) but they do have wifi throughout. Service was great, food was great, everything was just great. ONLY COMPLAINT would be that I'm not there all the time. Small "town" right near the Manor is a scenic and enjoyable walk.

I last reviewed this Inn in 2019, and gave it 2 stars. On coming back 5 years later we were impressed by the major renovations and upgrades in the rooms while still keeping the historic look and comfort of an old inn. Our room was spacious and immaculate with period furniture and modern conveniences. We were offered and took advantage of an afternoon tea tray with snacks, enjoying it on our small deck overlooking the pond and hills.Large sitting rooms off the dining rooms with books and games. Bar and pub. Beautiful grounds. Brand new function hall and large swimming pool. Very friendly and helpful staff. It's hard to get 5 stars from me, but I was impressed with the inn and we had a wonderful stay.
