Wow, this is my fairytale bookshop dreams come true. A real house (built 1853!) with real books (really!), and real coffee and food (!!!). So glad I decided to seek a local bookseller. And David (the owner) was exceptionally kind and helpful. A new fan for life!

I love the feel of this cozy little restaurant. The food is delicious. The service is fabulous. Reservations are accepted, which I recommend if going with a larger group. Otherwise, there could be a bit of a wait. It's a small space, but well worth hanging out in the connected bookstore while waiting for your table.

One of the most wonderful places to dine. When I want to treat someone, I take them here. Excellent food and service, reasonable prices, ample parking and a phenomenal book store.

I find almost any excuse to dine there.

We went to shop for books at Townhouse bookstore and then we had for lunch at the lovely caffè. We were two adults and two kids and the waitress immediately attend on us. The coziness and warmth of the place worked magic on us and we started feeling like at home. We ordered tuna salad, and two tasty sandwiches, one with grilled cheese and one with caramelised apples, roasted pork and dijon mustard, both had a side of veggie chips. The service was rapid and we left within an hour. Absolutely recommend for families and small groups

We went there for lunch. Walked in the door and stood while a dark hairded employee.was having a conversation with another employee. After not being acknowledged I asked if we seat ourselves. She said no. Never smiled never really greeted us. She sat the two of us at a table for four. I noticed a table for two open against the wall and asked if we could sit there. She made a sour face and said ok.
The server was great as was the food. But this individual just doesn't belong there. She seems miserable. Itreally shows.. too bad.. because
it's a great cafe.

**Lactose Intolerant Cheat Meal Review**

This spot is one of the most unique shops I've ever been to. If you're a bibliophile this is a spot for you. They have an extensive bookstore and a dining area for brunch. I'm lactose intolerant but every now and then I opt for a lactase pill. This was one of those days. I've heard about the legendary quiches here so I didn't want to miss out.

The quiche was great and the cup of soup was too. My reaction to the quiche was basically non-existant so I will be going back again.

The location was packed inside but there was only about a 10-15 minute wait to get a seat. We could also go walking around while waiting and look at the building and books.

The building is a historic landmark so that alone makes it a great reason to come see it.

*Everyone has a different reaction to lactose intolerance. This is my personal experience. Don't assume you will have the same.

If you love vintage and you love books then this is the place for you. From their unique layout with crystal chandeliers mixed with original creaky wood floors this shop feels like art. So grab a book or two and take a sniff because what reader doesn't love the smell of print.

This lunch spot is a gem. Each and everything I've ever had is delicious.

SANDWICHES...yes!

Soups....yes!

Desserts...yes!

Then you walk over a grab a book! What more could you want?!?!

This is a nice little local spot for book readers to go to. It also has a cafe, so you can eat there after you browse through the rooms of books.

Absolutely delicious food, and a great selection of books. Had a huge delicious salad and the quiche of the day. The key lime pie was phenomenal too.

I (unfortunately) moved away and hadn't had the opportunity to be back in almost 10 years. It's exactly how I remember. The service is always efficient, kind and so much quicker than you'd expect for a lunch rush.
Their food meals are filling with excellent portions and the deserts are somehow even better than everything I had already described.

Town House Books is a charming and beautiful bookstore located in a lovely area of downtown St. Charles! You are immediately overcome with a feeling of peace here. The staff members I have interacted with have been friendly, helpful and excited to help you find your next read or place an order for something they might not have on their shelves! Book prices are to be expected and in-line with any other brick-and-mortar store. The café is delicious and very affordable for the quality and portions of food, as well as the atmosphere and service. Sit outside if the weather permits, their patio is wonderful! I have only visited a handful of times, as it is a bit of a drive from me, but I now consider myself a regular customer and look forward to my next visit (which will be very soon).

This is definitely one of St. Charles hidden gems. Most find this hidden gem when googling for bookstores. I love this place and have been here many times over the years. The smell of books, food, bakery goods and the sound of old creaky floors. This bookstore has a small cafe attached that is usually packed. The patio is divine in the warmer months. I’ve tried so many things here over the years. Some of my faves are vegetable club, townhouse reuben (ranch on the side), avocado tuna melt, lea’s grilled cheese, apple roast pork, all their cold salads (egg, tuna, chicken), and even their main salads. The quiche is to die for!! Homemade chips, fruit salad (dried cranberries, apricots, lemon juice). You can take home deli meat, whole quiche, soups, salads, platters, fixings, bakery goods. Don’t get me started on the soups and bakery goods!! On the weekends the cafe offers a brunch menu which is just as tasty as there lunch menu. The chips are homemade and delicious. I can go on and on. All I can say is definitely come hungry and be prepared for a small wait. This place will never disappoint!

Great place for lunch and book browsing, if they don't have it they can order it for you but the best part is seeing what the experienced book sellers have chosen to display.
The restaurant is top-notch, everything is fresh and delicious from the daily quiche to the desserts and the salad dressing, we've always had a great meal there. Fast, friendly service, the only down-side is it can be a bit crowded and due to the hard wood floor and furniture it can get a bit noisy.
Still it's a favorite for the food and service!
Update- it's still a favorite for food and service! Everything is tasty and the staff is friendly and accommodating!
