Please go early in the day. Most of the trails are clear, but it is easy to get lost or misplace yourself on the trail. 209 is stunning but a huge thank you to other hikers for placing markets, as there are NONE. No bathrooms, go before you go.

Nice and quiet out here at the Wolf Pen Camp. You got some road noise but not very bad. Forest Ranger rides through several times a week. Very reassuring. No running water,no electricity and no restrooms, so come prepared. Make sure you bring a shovel, just in case. 12 to 14 miles from Halleyville Al. and Walmart, Dollar General,as well as restaurants. About the same drive to Double Springs Al. And Wren Al. both have Dollar General Stores.

Beautiful rock formations. Land of waterfalls....due to drought though, no water falling! Phone signal tree available!

This national forest is thick and beautiful. You will find some very nice greenery around here.

There's really too much awesomeness to type in here. This place is truly special. And even that is a massive understatement.I relish that alot of folks don't know about this forest and the even juicier Sipsey Wilderness locked inside of it's boundaries. Maybe the lack of notoriety will keep this special place special for years to come. I have a 5 & 7 year daughter and they absolutely love this place and all the nooks, crannies, and magic it has to offer. They can't wait to go back and sleep in the woods every time we head back home. Oh, and the waterfalls 😅 Let's just say there are a few of those as well 😉

Bankhead National Forest/Clear Creek Recreation is a great place for hiking, swimming, boating, camping. It has very nice clean restrooms with showers, picnic areas, pavilions for parties (by rental), it has nice playground for kids they can even ride there bikes around the whole place. Even your dogs are welcome just not at the swimming area and must be on leashes. It's just a very nice family oriented place.

The trails of this place has been my entire childhood. If you're looking for a beginner's course in hiking, try the Sipsey River Trail. Plenty of waterfalls and sights, even an ancient wrecked car. Not many uphills and downhills. Most of the other trails are okay going in, but miserable coming out. The forest is also home to many furry friends.

Beautiful hike along the creek bank to see an incredible water fall, with many more along the way. Natures mighty power in the creek that has stayed the course for many, many years. At times the creek was calm and almost seemed still in some parts while other sections displayed the this incredible power in a rushing rage of turbulence. We saw multiple groups with many age ranges represented. Will certainly be doing this hike again with much more time to spend exploring the surrounding areas. Would certainly recommend making it a day trip.

I grew up in Bankhead Forest so it's home to me. Sipsey picnic grounds is fun for the whole family, pets included. The waterfalls are gorgeous, and you can play in the river and streams. Unfortunately the pavilion is under a large tree that fell during a storm. I hope they rebuild it. The pavilion has a fireplace which made it a great place to visit year round.

We experienced a beautiful two mile hike along the Brushy Creek to Sougahoagdee Falls in the William Bankhead National Forest near Double Springs, Alabama.

Beautiful landscape and the essence of Alabama charm and natural beauty. But please always keep in mind that this is a wilderness not a national park and getting lost is very easy even for experienced backpackers. Don't forget to come prepared with enough food and water in case of an emergency. lots of short and lots of very long trails to enjoy

This is Brushy Lake in Bankhead forrest.i have always told my wife I wanted to be cremated and my ashes spread over the dam. Unfortunately she didn't get to do that for me as She passed 9/2/23. Please Pray for me as I will spread her ashes when we get more water.i lost my best friend and wife of 37 years but I can't count the times we have been there. This picture was taken in about 2000 and ended up in a Bankhead brochure. PRICELESS!! I miss my dear Sheri! One day we will be together again!!

Great adventure for the first weekend of the season. Started out in the 70's Friday afternoon with snow on the ground on Saturday morning. Great access to the lake for fishing, the camping spot was nice, bathrooms were clean. Highly recommend if you want an outdoor experience.

10/29/22- beautiful fall foliage and great hiking. Water level was low and tranquil at the Sipsey Fork.

I don't have a picture of the one I was at. But it was the most beautiful one up there. In my mind it will always be there for me. I'll never forget it. First time for me.
