A fun and interesting museum! I had the opportunity to visit and tour with a group of friends on our monthly outing and i really enjoyed it! The museum is nicely put together and it not only talks about railroad history, but it also houses artifacts and local history displays. The staff even took the time to give us a personal tour and share some ghost stories with us.

I thought I stopped in here many years ago on a road trip to the Smokies when I just needed a break from driving. I took the picture I'm going to attach of a fascinating hand-drawn map with many, many notes written about the mills and mines and families in the area. At the bottom, the plaque reads, "Wilder Area Mines". I'd appreciate if anybody could comment about whether I photographed it at this museum or somewhere else nearby. In any case please enjoy.

I grew up near this town and actually work nearby today, I have drove past the museum countless times and never knew how many interesting items are inside. There are to many items to list so all the locals need to check this place out and learn more about the interesting history of Monterey and its surrounding areas.

Lots of local history. The docent was very knowledgeable and had some great stories, and suggested other local attractions.

The Depot Museum is a hidden gem. You won’t believe how many historical train pieces are inside. People drive by it everyday and don’t realize what they’re missing. Check it out!

Made a quick stop while my wife and I were passing through, so we didn't get to delve too deep. However, the folks working there were very friendly and helpful. Terri and I are looking forward to returning soon with an appropriate amount of time to peruse the displays and information.

Dude to the empty museum our visit was spectacular because of the attention given us by Blind Dale, who took us through the hall for an hour. If go to this museum you must ask about "Whistling Willie".
Really nice collection of old equipment.

We saw a sign off the highway and I decided to check this museum out. The museum was technically closed but the curator graciously allowed us to wander around and learn about local history- which was honestly fascinating. When we left, my 11 year old told me about some of the exhibits I missed, like the "knives in the wall" mystery. We plan to go back when we are in the area again.

I was looking for a place to take a break along I-40, you know, one that's easy on, easy off. Well, believe me, even if it WASN'T easy to get to, it WOULD BE WORTH IT 🥇 I was amazed by what I found there! Incredible local folks who share their love for the region in tangible museumware and their own stories. Make a point to stop and hear of these tough people who helped build this country 💪

This is not just a train Depot... Yes, it is packed with everything trains... Tools, models train cars, pictures etc. It also is a historical museum of everything Monterey from the beginning. We also had a guided tour, which which was very factual, but also full of human interest stories. This place is a treasure!

Great place to visit. The curator is a well of knowledge and local folklore. Model/toy train displays were neat. Lots of railroad and local town history on display. Worth the stop in to visit. Also, don't forget to sign the guestbook.
