I took a small vacation over to the east coast and had to stop by this amazing restaurant!! I had the fried calamari for an appetizer, the Fettuccine Alfredo with Chicken Parm and for dessert the Cheesecake. I don’t think I’ve ever been this satisfied at any restaurant before but this one checked all the boxes. The service was amazing, the food was all homemade which kept making me dig into it more even after I was getting full. The portions are generous. I couldn’t believe how tasty everything was. And don’t let me get started on the cheesecake…. To Die For!!!! Definitely not like any other cheesecake I’ve had before, you’ll have to order it to see what I mean. Everything was just superb. I will definitely be flying back to this spot!

Excellent restaurant experience, really first-rate every time we go. Food is consistently delicious and never disappoints. Scott and Jean are wonderful hosts. Great authentic Italian recipes, fresh ingredients, well-sized portions, quaint atmosphere, very civilized and manageable size means you can talk at a normal level and hear all your guests. Love this place — my favorite restaurant on the Eastern Shore. Recommend without qualification.

Beautiful historic location in Quaint town. Excellent service and amazing homemade pasta. Recently opened for lunch and I had a delicious antioxidant salad.

I haven't been to Popes Tavern in many years. There are new ish owners and the food is delicious! My friend and I enjoyed the shrimp scampi and the chicken piccata both with a side of brocolini and lots of garlic. Excellent.
The tiramisu was creamy w a hint of a liquor. Order to see what it is! We sat inside though next to the wall of window panes and there's a wonderful porch to enjoy next time. The service was very attentive.

Had the best weekend staying at the inn and eating incredible meals at the tavern. The owners Scott and Jeanne are friendly and hardworking and such an asset to this charming town. The dinner menu boasts amazing authentic Italian food including delicious homemade pasta that is light enough to keep you wanting more but hearty enough to satisfy you. Brunch was wonderful as well with some of the best fresh fruit I’ve had and amazing service. Will definitely be back for more!

Our experience at Pope's Tavern was phenomenal; our whole dining experience was very positive.
The food, service and staff were outstanding.
We also stayed at the Oxford Inn and enjoyed our visit.
I highly recommend this Inn and restaurant.
We would dine there again without hesitation.

We were very surprised at how good the food is here. We split the linguini with clam sauce and it was so good I almost licked the plate. Highly recommended. Homemade pasta was perfect! We are going back again!!

Through a weird twist of fate, my co-workers and I were looking for a place to stay and somewhere to eat in Oxford on a Tuesday night. With the Robert Morris Inn apparently closed for the night, we stayed at the Oxford Inn and dined at Pope's Tavern.

Let's just say, the Prisco's have nailed it.

If Pope's Tavern, which is a somewhat curious name, was in my hometown, it would possibly be the best Italian restaurant in the city...and we have a gracious plenty of them.

Simply put, everything was good, everything. The calamari were fried to perfection, almost tempura style. Delicious. My co-worker, who ordered the chicken parmesan, said it was the best he had ever had. My other co-worker, who always tends to get spaghetti and meatballs when we eat Italian, said it was better than any she can remember. Finally, my linguini with clam sauce was the best I have ever had...period and end of discussion. Phenomenal.

We ate at the bar, and I will cut to the quick: the bartender makes a perfect gin martini (slightly dirty). That is a more of skill than it should be, and she crushed it.

As for the atmosphere, this is a cozy place with a lot of regulars (all my best to Patty and John BTW). It was very crowded on a Tuesday night, and the guy playing guitar was perfect as the ambient entertainment. It truly was a tavern in an inn, which is something we simply don't have in central Alabama. Really cool.

The reason for a 4-star rating for atmosphere instead of 5-star is pretty simple, the Prisco's apparently like the color yellow a lot more than I do.

I love this restaurant. Staff is always friendly and attentive. The food is amazing. No doubt the best chicken parmigiana I’ve ever had , the fettuccine Alfredo that accompanies it will rock your world ! This restaurant will not disappoint

We are locals who don't go out much but St. Pat's day at Pope's was delightful and we are so glad we nudged each other to go out! The corn beef special dinner and our appetizer were delicious, the staff was over and above friendly, quick and fun and the music was an added bonus. Eating at a high top table near the bar gave us a chance to chat with a few other locals, while mixing with the cheerful visiting crowd. We will try to get out more often!

Scott and his wife met us and as my wife and I had ridden bikes to the restaurant, it then began to rain. We were allowed in early and after Scott gave us towels to dry off the bikes. The food and service were very well done.

The restaurant is located in the Oxford Inn, an early 20th century (or older) restored hotel with 7 rooms. The restaurant has a very small classy period bar on one side of the restaurant and we enjoyed a couple of craft beers while waiting for the dinner service to begin. The menu is mostly Italian with a few Chesapeake Bay inspired offerings. My lady guest ordered the calamari which was very light and tender followed by a local flounder entree.. I enjoyed escargot (unshelled) which were excellent, followed by a Caesar salad and a tender duck breast as my entree. The wine list was extensive. A creative dessert menu but we were already quite satisfied. Ample easy access free parking.
A very pleasant romantic dining experience for us.

Absolutely fantastic Italian restaurant. We boated in to Oxford and took a short walk from the marina to get here. The town is beautiful. Cocktails and wine selection are excellent. The mint juleps are highly recommended. Delicious escargot, huge shrimp cocktail, and amazing Caesar salads. The entrees are large with all ingredients made from scratch. Save room for dessert as everything is home made and delicious as well. Truly worth the trip from wherever you are coming from and a real hidden gem on the Tred Avon River. 10/10

The service felt very welcoming. The music on Tuesdays is great, not too loud, very talented singer. Great new take on a cannoli for desert too!

We had an awesome stay at Pope's Tavern. The food was excellent (especially the pasta!) and there was a wide selection of wine and beer. The Sunday brunch was one of the best meals I've ever had, and we were able to enjoy our brunch on the front porch. The staff are friendly and warm, and the owners Jeanne and Scott are really phenomenal and hardworking people. Highly recommended!

Really enjoyed the evening. My friend and I shared the Burrata and Escargot appetizers. They were excellent with their home baked bread. Then we shared the gnocchi and the lobster cannelloni, both were amazing. Finished the meal with their candied orange panna cotta. Everything was outstanding including the staff. Would defiantly recommend it and be back!

This evening we dined at Pope’s Tavern. We started with an amazing antipasto cheese and olive tray and shared a bottle of Chardonnay. The presentation was beautiful. He had the Veal Marsala with homemade pasta and I had the clams and linguine but they substituted a gf penne for me. Everything was so delicious. The service was excellent and very personable. It is definitely worth a visit for a wonderful dining experience.

We visited this amazing restaurant today and my salad was by far the best salad I have had in years. Would rate it a “20” if I could. My husband had the meatball sliders and they were outstanding. Owner is extremely nice and we will definitely be back on a regular basis.
