Madewood Plantation House

Lovely! Stayed at a few plantations during cycling trip April 2019. This was our last stop for two nights. Stayed in cottages separate from house. A lot of stairs to get up but that was fine. Rooms clean and comfortable. Lovely complimentary JR Watkins soaps & lotions. Liked so much ordered when home. Supplied nice bathrobes. Enjoyed relaxing in chaise lounge. Stayed in the double room. Evenings exquisite especially as we had a beautiful bright moon illuminating gorgeous grounds. Mansion beautiful so much history to see and enjoy. Including extensive collection. Angie amazing hostess. Even went out of her way to pick me up lotion for my sunburn. Enjoyed sitting on back porch with all the plant life and swing. Also like checking out the old graveyard in the back. That was very interesting. Especially to read about the people laid to rest there on the stones. Angie made all the food which was wonderful! You could tell everything was cooked with love! She also set a fine table! Absolutely perfect! She put together an amazing breakfast but nothing was better than lovely cocktail hour. Refreshing watermelon cocktails cheese crackers Nuts fruit. Then into dining room for amazing dinner of fresh warm French bread, salad fish green beans and best pea soup I ever had! We actually could sit in the historic rooms on the furniture to enjoy. That was truly a treat! You can walk around mansion on your own which was very enjoyable. A lot to see inside and out. Everyone on staff nice and accommodating. It really makes you feel like you’re back in the old south as a welcomed visitor. I would highly recommend a visit. I know Angie will treat you as an old friend. You will be made very welcome and comfortable.

The experience at Madewood Plantation House was wonderful. Angie is awesome. She prepared the breakfasts and dinners and puts love and heart into her cooking. She spent time with each guest, was very helpful with directions and activity planning, and the rest of the staff was so sweet. The house is full of character and beautiful warmth. Cleo (the house dog) greets you with a wagging tail and will guide you to your room! I LOVED it. I recommend this place to anyone. We had a room with a front balcony and the grounds are breathtaking. It has a family feel and we me three other couples and had a wonderful time visiting. I would love to come back!!!!!

We booked at Madewood after looking quite a bit into the different plantation hotels and B&B's.We were three adults, looking for two bedrooms. The plantation offers several rooms that actually include two bedrooms with one bath for the same cost. A great option for us. We were not disappointed. We stepped back in time in this very tastefully renovated mansion, that has kept all his history and charm. The park is wonderful and the rooms still look and feel as if the original owners lived there. Angie's (the plantation manager) hospitality and cuisine are generous. We have tasted a full range of southern dishes perfectly cooked and presented, and enjoyed the complimentary wine and cheese before the dinner and brandy in the parlor after. What a great time we had! We cannot recommend Madewood Plantation enough.

I was supposed to stay here in June of 2018 but unfortunately nautre had other plans. I was able to tour the house the next morning and the nice people here helped us to secure accommodation at Nottaway instead. The house is beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed my tour and hope to stay here in the future as I would love to get some more photographs as well as tour more of the grounds as I was sparse on time since I did not stay the night here as planned. I loved the staircase, the beds, intricate chair, and furnishings as well as the amazing trees on the grounds which looked amazing with the front of the house with its columns. I loved the view from the balcony and the pink floors.

Madewood Mansion is a gorgeous home and should be added to anyone's "must see" list! The house is being restored to it's original state and when it's complete we are already planning a trip back! Several movies have been shot on location here including Beyonce's "Lemonade" music video. We even got to sit in her chair! The home is unique in the fact that it was not built by slave labor. The skill and precision craftsmanship is breathtaking. The attention to details in the flooring, the fireplaces, the hallway and staircase... it's really incredible. Our tour guide, Angie, kept as captivated for an hour as she told us stories about the previous owners and all the work put into the house. She even hosts large groups for dinners and events on the property! The house is currently owned by a famous artist and his paintings are everywhere and can also be purchased. Thank you Angie for a great tour!

Absolutely worth the visit. Make sure to call in advance to schedule your tour. The mansion is very well preserved. Angie, the property manager, was really great and shared so much information about the plantation house and it's history of ownership. She even lets you take a picture in the "Beyoné Chair" but make sure you ask her first!

I attended a wedding, and it was beautiful! Everything was coordinated excellently, the food was amazing, and the music was perfect. The entire house and grounds were open for viewing which my kids and I enjoyed very much. Overall a great experience for everyone.

The plantation was beautiful and Angie with the rest of the staff provides excellent service. Can't wait to come back and visit again!
