Quite a place in the woods. The columns were very well built with the metal tops. There is a plaque stating 3.5 million to stabilize the columns and replace stucco. All burned by accident.

Glad they are spending the time, material and money to preserve what is left of the ruins.
The red clay to the right is slick and sloppy. I don't recommend walking in it after a rain storm. But definitely walk to the back for a different perspective. Also there's some ruins here and there around the property in the woods. But be aware of snakes in the woods.
Don't forget to visit the stairs that are at the Chapel at Alcorn University just south of the ruins

This was a little hidden gem we found off the Natchez Trace. The history on this place was sad. You feel like you're stepping back in time.

Great quick stop to see some amazing pillars and imagine what it looked like before the fire. I hope in the preservation project they will take down more of the vegetation and uncover more of the foundation and parts of the fallen pillars. A very peaceful place

Improved roads, restoration efforts are being made to preserve the old columns that still stand, there are still no public facilities

It's a wonderful place to see. Not very accessible at the moment for they are doing some construction. That was a bit sad but, it has to be done to make sure the rest of the columns don't fall! Looking forward to seeing them again once they are finished!

Every bit as magical as the pictures and subsequently your imagination crafts personal expectations. It is fenced off, but that is for our own protection; the ruins are old and may crumble at any point. There are plenty of rocks scattered around the vicinity where you can easily hop up and take a bevy or photos satisfying your social media needs. Best the crowds and go early in the morning!

Incredibly relaxing and beautiful place to sit in silence! It is a little far back on a road that makes you think you must be in the wrong place, but I promise it's back there! No cell phone signal here though.

There is a cemetery located in the woods behind the Windsor Ruins. You have to go around to the north side of Rodney road before the bridge and enter the woods heading back south. There is an old road/path that you can follow and the woods open up to a field. The cemetery sets on an old Native American burial mound and should be visible once you are in the open field. Please be careful and watch for snakes. I almost stepped on one inside the cemetery.

Only 23 Corinthian columns left standing after a fire destroyed the Greek Revival mansion in 1890. Makes a pretty picture but holds dark history.

The terrain has changed since the last time I had been (7-8 yrs ago)to where I couldn't walk out back behind the house and veer off to the left and see the trenches the soldiers made. The woods are overtaking the left side almost. I'm glad they're doing restoration though

Wow, what an awesome site. Just to think what this mansion used to look like back in the day. Currently, work is being done on the columns

Beautiful! The fence is necessary as they conserve the ruins but I hope the project will be done soon.

This was on my "Mississippi Bucket List" and I'm so glad we made it! The architecture of what's left is stunning and the history is interesting!

Even though the detailed history of the place wasn’t posted, just seeing how big the place was was fascinating.

The Windsor Ruins is a must stop to see in Port Gibson, Mississippi. This was once a beautiful plantation home but a fire destroyed it. It is here that a couple of motion pictures were filmed most notably "Ghosts of Mississippi". Although the ruins are fenced off due to some type of preservation, if you're in the area I highly recommend a quick stop here to see the ruins.

Though the place was gated because of unstable columns, we still got same good shots and was able to read all about it.

Nice to drive through a lush green and wooded Mississippi road to these ruins. It was sad to read the marker and the bad luck that befell this family. Alcorn State university and the Natchez Parkway are closeby.

The ruins are haunting and initially breathtaking. Being a native of Mississippi and seeing many of her beauties, this was something completely different. Tucked away neatly from the dangers the mighty river could pose this home sat in between massive live oaks. It was built to a height that allowed its inhabitants to look over the river but was consumed by fire. Only the pillars remain and the question arises, for how long.
The ruins are fenced in due to the danger of them tumbling down. The photos taken were from outside of the fence. Please respect the history of this location.

Not so much fun with fence around and big equipment but ruins are remarkable.
