We took our family of 5 and loved it. What an amazing perspective of life and comforts to provide to our kids. To know what people have gone through in our history is incredible. I would highly recommend this place!♡

You’ll have to start at the visitor center and watch the films! I’m glad I went on a good weather day and was able to enjoy a walk around the prison site and look at the monuments. Great presentation and preservation of the historic site.

It was an amazing place. I would highly recommend reading up on it prior to going so as to understand more about the references made throughout. I'm so thankful to those who have preserved the area after so much time. It is a peaceful resting place after such a horrid history.

Such a powerful place! Detailed information that tells you about the history of the POW camp. Plenty of places to walk and view the different sites.

This National Park site has so much sad history to it. It is incredible to learn of all the hardships here and of other POWs from other conflicts.
The rangers here are so knowledgeable on the history. I am glad this place is here to remind us of what can happen.

If you are in the area, this is a must visit. Lots of history. They have a Prisoner of War Museum located inside the Visitor Center. They have a driving or walking tour in and around where the Prisoner Stockade was located. They do a great job describing what each stopped along the route was and what prison life was like for the POW's. There is a National Cemetery here as well. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

If you’re in the area, stop. It’s worth it and will give you a good appreciation for what our POW’s went through in defense of our freedom. It’s very humbling and full of rich history worth learning. If you have time visit the village across the street and have a chat with the ladies that run the museum and little antique shop. Two very memorable ladies that made an impression.

Andersonville is a great place for kids to learn about history. They have a JR Ranger program as well. Get the book at the desk. Complete the book and get a badge and other loot.
This is what we got for the KR ranger program. Besides the book, we bought that in the gift ship to place stamps at each JR place we go!
It's free. They do accept donations.

What a beautiful yet sad museum. To all of those who have served and will serve and their families, THANK YOU! Come take a look at some of the history that makes part of our American history a bit more humbling. Pay your respect and enjoy some beautiful scenery, sad history & be proud.

This is not just a prison, but a National POW museum and cemetery. It’s very rainy day so we didn’t tour the grounds but could tell they are well kept and maintained. Beautiful area even in the rain. If we are in the area again we plan to do the driving tour. The museum had wonderful exhibits with detailed information. We watched a 27 minute movie which was very compelling. Including the movie it took us 1 1/2 to walk through. There was a lot to read and many artifacts. So much history that should not be forgotten. We ended our tour in the small gift shop.

Beautiful cemetery and wonderful monuments to the fallen. The actual park where the prison was really interesting and to see the amount of land th a t held 45,000 prisoners.

My wife and I stopped in at Andersonville today just to look at monuments and gravestones there. We ended up walking over to Providence Spring and got plenty of pictures. We love this place and visit regularly.

Beautiful area. Really enjoyed my first visit there last weekend. Reading all the plaques about it was fascinating, but horrifying what some people lived through. We didn't drive; we walked around the whole area to read the signs. Gorgeous day.

I absolutely love Andersonville. It is one of my favorite places to visit. The first time I visited the site it was described to me as “solemn entertainment” and that’s exactly what it is. The horror of what happened here is something that everyone needs to witness. The POW museum is very intense, so be prepared for that. If you’re planning to take children, I would prep them for the seriousness of the site. Also, I highly, HIGHLY recommend watching the movie Andersonville before visiting the site. I think it puts more perspective on what you’re looking at and helps you have a more meaningful experience. The site is very well kept. It’s also a pretty big site to walk around. I would plan to visit the museum first then drive through the cemetery and site. It took me about 2 hours to do the whole site. Please take the time to stop here! It is well worth the visit (and it’s free!!)

Was able to pay my respects to 2 great-great uncles that died here in 1864.
The unimaginable conditions are difficult to comprehend but I was proud to finally be able to connect the dots to more than just a couple pictures over the years.

Amazing to see the very small area that thousands of Union troops were held. The museum is great with exhibits and videos throughout talking about POW's. National cemetery was something to see as well. Worth the trip!

It is always so very humbling to visit this place. The museum is very educational and you can learn a little more each time you visit. Every war has horrible stories to be told. The facilities are very well maintained and preserved.

We suggest starting at the visitor center and getting your park stamps and oriented to park before you drive or walk around the sites.
The exhibit includes a short movie that discusses the POW experience well beyond Andersonville and up to the current day. It was very well done
From there check with Park Ranger and get your maps and apps ready to go. Go out the back door and look at the overview site before heading to the car.

The site is designed to drive around with parking spots that allow you to explore. It also has a recorded feature allowing you to learn about the site as you drive around. We started off with the prison camp and concluded in the cemetery. Park closes at five, so make sure you leave enough time. The visitor center takes at least 30 minutes and each narrated drive but that does not include stopping at points of interest and exploring.

I've seen the pictures in the past, but it really helps to see it in person and see the size and the scope and the same little riverbed flowing through 157 years later.

The park is well cared for and people were respectful.

If you like history this is a place you need to go. It’s a reminder of a terrible time in our country. But it is our history. Everyone should learn about the historical moments. We don’t want this time to repeat itself. Education is very important.
