Carvins Cove Natural Reserve

It was my first experience riding horses on the trails at Carvins Cove. The trails were maintained very well. I do not recommend going barefoot you had to ride some gravel rode to get to some of the trails. I really enjoyed the Enchanted Forest trail and the Arrowhead trail. I passed 4 bikers who were all very nice and stopped their bikes for the horses. I look forward to exploring more trails in the area. It is an incredible hill workout for your horse on Arrowhead.

Love this place for the peaceful waters in the reservoir in a kayak or canoe & the MTB trails on the Bennett Springs side. Enchanted Forest is beautiful & Rock & Roll is a must ride. Hard to hold back all the woo hoo’s & yee haws on that fun flowy trail!!

Quiet, nice, spacious, and green. Can bring your own boat/kayak/padding board or rent a boat/kayak before 630. Better go early.

This place has incredible biking trails. I did a 12 mile hike. The trail is in great shape. It had lots of loops and ups and downs to keep things interesting. There are no views, but there are many lovely stream crossings.

If there's a better way to spend a morning I'm not sure what it is. Very easy to locate and very well maintained. Just a short walk into the woods and the only sounds you hear are birds and the buzzing of insects and the occasional squirrel. There is the occasional aircraft passing overhead but it is quiet.
$3/person is not a lot to ask for considering the beauty of the area and the well maintained and well marked trails. I plan to come back.

The mountain bike trails here are spectacular, well maintained and diverse! There is something for every skill level. The shear quantity of great trails make this one of the premier mountain biking destinations in the region. The natural beauty and fresh air make for a PERFECT bicycling environment!

Had a great technical ride on the bike trails. Serious double black action!! Just the Right Gear down the road is a legit bike shop as well!!

Tons of great trails for Mountain Biking, hiking, and horseback riding. Not to mention the lake is perfect for yaks and canoes. $7 dollar day use fee.

Very good area for walking for me. If I have a chance to visit again, I will go there several times.

Solid Hiking Place, A Lot Of Mountain Bikers

The last time I was at Carvins Cove was back in 1987. I rode up and down Brushy Mountain today, January 27th, on my mountain bike and I can definitely say that I'll be back. Beautiful view, beautiful ride. Horses are welcome as well as dogs.
Be prepared for an intermediate to advanced ride down Brushy Mountain. There's also a unisex bathroom at the bottom.

Great MTB trails in Salem (near Roanoke). Carvins Cove is a fantastic place to ride for all rider levels. They have a large interconnected, and we'll maintained, trail system with everything from flat and rolling trails to intense climbs to park-like trails with jumps and other obstacles.

Make sure to you have the Trail Forks or MTB Project app (Android or Apple app store)on your phone and you download the trail maps for off-line use before you arrive since service can be spotty on site. The trails can be a bit confusing, most are well marked but it could be easy to blow by a turn and find yourself a bit turned around or "lost".

Don't forget to bring some cash for your day pass, $3/per person (at the time of posting) over 16 years. There wasn't any place to make change, just a drop box, so bring ones.

Could not believe this place was real, looked like a fairy tale with all the beautiful scenery and quaint roads.
