Schenectady County Department of Social Services

This is where I got my new Medicaid card because the Social Security Administration will ask for you Medicaid card (when applying for the Social Security card). I was trying to show them my old Medicaid card that I had for years, but SSA won't allow older outdated Medicaid cards, this is why I went to Schenectady County DSS to get my new Medicaid Card, which is also my food stamp card. When you first walk in the DSS building, you walk in the door on the left hand side, and unlike you do at an airport, you go through security. They will ask you to remove everything from your pockets.

I appreciate that everyone was professional and courteous towards me. They had no idea how much pain I was in and yet I needed to be there to apply for services. Thank you!!

Everytime I've had the need to go to DSS, I've been treated with professional courtesy and attended with a smile. I surely have no complaints. I've received the same positive vibes from staff which l, too, have given forth.

They do answer..but since we dont live in delanson ny no more we couldnt get that help that we need...but if we live there theyre so helpful i give them 100%

They work so hard and treated so badly , the workers are only trying to do their jobs, be patient so you can get help even if you're not qualified, it's not because of the workers, just you may make too much, social services is there to help so be polite to them, they deserve peace, thanks to them they help when needed, Blessing to all the social service workers

I needed a replacement food stamps ID card when I visited DSS the other day. I went inside at 8:40 am, told the receptionist what I was there for and she asked me for ID then gave me a number. She called my number in less than 15 minutes and handed me a new temp card and sent me on my way. In and out in under 20 minutes. Now that's fast service. Thanks DSS.

They Actually Really care If you Have All your Paperwork In Order! & Everything Signed the Atmosphere Is Ridiculous Loud People Ghetto Rats and Some People Just abusing The system Just so they can Sit on their Hands at home Eat,and Watch T.V. and Get on Social Media Its Amazing Most Have $200-$900 phones New Shoes And boots clothes Etc..

This DSS office has the kindest staff of any social services office I've ever been to. It is like being in the twilight zone. People there actually help you. Not the greatest place to be but the staff there treat you with dignity.

This place is ok the thing I didn't like is if you have to drop off paperwork to a specific department then you have to get a number and wait in line. Now I don't mind just remember if you have to drop off make sure you don't have nothing else planned

A space where you can go for assistance: Temporary Assistance, SNAP Benefits, Healthcare/Medicaid, Child Support and emergency aid.

Mrs D. colon is amazing she is so helpful considerate and understanding. And wants to help family's not just sit andget a pay check... We need more workers like her!!!!

Though at times this place can bring back horrible memories and sad emotions i know the truth, if i really need help and can prove it this is the only place you can really go, I've gotten the help i need several times so much that it allows me to forget the times when i felt sad or mistreated , fortune favors the brave!!

I was there to submit an application for assistance, the woman assisting me filled in all the blanks and I was out of there in 15 minutes or so. She is what a governmental employee should be, flawlessly helpful.
