Source of Knowledge Book Store

I’ve been to this bookstore twice and need to go back. They have such a huge selection of books that are very affordable. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. They always tell me what books to choose from (I love urban fiction books) and they always pick out the best ones. Highly recommend!

An awesome range of diverse genres, mainly from black authors and includes children’s books, encouraging one to enhance their reading culture! The two ladies (owners?) are engaging, helpful with book recommendations and happy to discuss past purchases. The Store also has a rich collection of wooden art pieces (to explore in future). Looking forward to my next visit!

Love this book store!! I take my kids there. It's amazing to see them in awe at all the kids books with characters the look like them! The owners are incredibly nice and helpful.

This place is a treasure. There is a great selection of books. The staff is the kindest, most helpful group of people. My youngest son threw a major tantrum in the store and they were so kind and accomodating. They helped my daughter find what she was looking for while I attended to my son. I cant say enough about how great the people are here.

It is such a beautiful collection of books with African centric art and clothing. It's great to hear how they partner with other local businesses as well. The customer service was great, and since I came there to check out their clothes, the staff was very supportive and assisted me through the process. I first found out about them through a street fair they hosted with other vendors. And I love their variety of children books that represent the kids I work with. Overall, wonderful store.

Incredible bookstore. But it’s not just that. I walked in and immediately felt at home. Not only because of the books but because of the culture. If you’re black, this is a necessary visit if you go to Newark. If you’re not, it’s still a necessary visit. This store truly lives up to its name. It’s a hub for all the knowledge I will need on my spiritual journey as well as my entrepreneurship journey, there’s something for everyone. The energy was electric. Dexter and his partner Pat were also a pleasure meeting. They are also the owners. I will make this a quarterly trip as I live in south jersey and it’s about a 2 hour drive. I’m glad I decided to go for a walk after having lunch. 😉 the picture I added is a list of books I want to research before I purchase, but I won’t be purchasing them anywhere else but here

Fantastic bookstore! It was my first time visiting today, after seeing a lot about them on social media. The store is well arranged and they’re very welcoming, eager to help with suggestions. I had a great conversation about books with Patrice, she recommended some great books. Safety protocols were in place, masks and sanitizer before entering. The prices are amazing too. I will definitely be going back. They have a great selection of art work too!

This is ALWAYS my go-to bookstore. Its in MY community and represents MY race culture and ethnicity. The woman who works there KNOWS all the book's authors as well as content.

Great selection of books, especially for children. The people who work there are friendly and helpful. They also have framed prints, African masks, sculptures, and clothing. There is a friendly gentleman selling jewelry near the entrance. I will definitely return to purchase gifts.

It so funny when one reads reviews- they are always so varied and extremely one sided and biased. This store is fabulous. Let me explain why:

1. They employ disabled persons
2. The variety of black books and subjects is versatile and varied that it made me wonder do I read enough
3. The level of kujichagulia, and principles of community are out of this world.
4. The inviting smells of the beauty shop in the back was awesome
5. The upstairs space was phenomenal as well. All owned by a sista.
6. They frame all art work... in store
7. Prices were comparable to other stores
8. We stayed for almost two hours- talking to the proprietor and discussing art.

If you are looking for sterile and un amusing go to Barnes and Noble but if you are looking for personable, inviting and warmth go there...

Love going into this place and get my books. Everyone is so helpful and courteous 😊

I haven't been there in years. I was over whelmed. They added more space, picture art , sculpture art, wall hangings. Very nice. Any book you can think of.

This place feels like home. Chocked full of goodies (aka books), plants and beautiful art. The owner, and staff, are very knowledgeable and friendly. Strolling the aisles is always a treat, filled with classics and new authors just waiting to be discovered. I highly recommend this bookstore, it’s one of my favorite places to shop for books.

Source of Knowledge is a gem in the heart of Newark! Very pleasant and helpful owners and staff. Great selection of up-to-date books by black authors for adults and teenagers, as well as beautifully illustrated books for children. They also have a selection of musical instruments and artwork! If they don't have it, they will order it for you. Please support Black owned businesses. I highly recommend this business and experience!

What a place! The most beautiful children's books I have ever seen!!! Extensive selections on Black, Caribbean and Latin culture, religion, traditions, parenting, history, life and love. They also have wall art, sculpture and clothing. I purchased 2 gorgeous dresses by Amadou fashions. You can tell they are a gem in their community.

Always amazing. They have a great selection of African and African diaspora history and culture books. The have the widest collection of African children's books I have ever seen. Hundreds of them.

They organization an amazing annual Juneteenth Celebration.

First impressions are the best impressions. 1/2/21 was my first time at this bookstore. The store is beautiful, the owners was very nice, thoughtful and knowledgeable. I had the privilege of speaking with one of the owners, she personally gave me a tour. I will highly recommended you visit this book store and take your kids as well.

I can’t say enough good things about this place, the name of the store says it all. I love the selections of books and they have a lot of paintings that they sell there as well which adds to the value of the location. I’ve been frequenting this bookstore for years and will continue
