Tavern At Rivers Edge

My family stopped there last night for a quick dinner and was not disappointed. A few mussels and buffalo wings to start and then the entrees. My son got the burger, definitely the right choice. The cocktails were perfect and my wife loved the 'Rum Thing'. The ambiance with the old mill brick interior is very nice. I would recommend this place if you are in the Exeter area.

What a great surprise right downtown Exeter! Met Jeff the owner who has owned this place for 20+ years. Lively, welcoming, and fun environment— I can see how many become regulars. We ordered drinks and dinner. Highly, highly recommend the mussels! We will definitely be back.

We were looking for a cozy, quaint place in Exeter to go on a rare date and have some time away alone. We like unhyped, "hole in the wall" type restaurants, and if that's what you look for as well, I recommend it. It's a super simple storefront right in downtown, and it is indeed a small rustic dining room and bar (shouldn't be a surprise as the original building is probably 200+ years old?), so if you're looking for a glitzy, showy high end place, this is not it. The owner Jeff is the host and is very friendly, going out of his way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. The waitress we had was super friendly as well, very easy going, and pleasant. The food we had was great (steak tips with risotto). The only "con" I can think of is that the Caesar dressing we had was SOOO strong with garlic and seasoning. Like, very strong. So maybe get a different dressing for your salad if you want to keep your breath somewhat tolerable for the next several hours, ha ha. I like to give the benefit of the doubt, so we chalked it up to it maybe not being made right that night? It wasn't a big deal to be honest and did not outweigh everything else that was right about the experience. The location is perfect, right by the river, and a couple doors down from a great ice cream shop that was also excellent.

This is my first time visiting and i loved it, there steak tips best i have ever had. The rice was just perfect i will definitely be back. Thank you to the waitress she was great with her suggestions.

The Tavern is always a great place to meet friends, have a delicious cocktail and a bite to eat. Staff is always great and friendly. This place has been an Exeter icon for over 20 years and continues to maintain the small town tavern experience. Do yourself a favor and check it out, you will be hooked.

I love coming here. There's always the best food and the most amazing waitress! They really make you feel like family every time you go. Would recommend this place to anyone!

Recently moved to Exeter, and have been trying all the local places. This little Tavern, had by far the best "Feel". Better than Water Street and SeaDog. It felt comfortable and welcoming. I ordered the Portabella Mushroom app, and the Mediterranean Haddock and was very happy with the food. This is the best hidden gem I've found so far! Competition is tough, this place deserves the patronage.

We had a wonderful evening at the Tavern at Rivers Edge in Exeter. The owner (Jeff, who we met) and his staff took wonderful care of us and the food was outstanding (and it was a very busy night, the Exeter Holiday Parade was going on, so there was A TON of people downtown). They have awesome tavern flour nachos (loaded) appetizer that we all shared, and the main course was simply delicious. I had the Prince Edward Island Mussels that was prepared in a buttery cream sauce with chorizo, leeks, shallots and tomatoes. My wife had the blue salad, and she absolutely loved it. We shared an enormous helping of Tiramisu, which was one of the best that I have ever had. The extra sauce made it excellent! The next time we are in Exeter, we will definitely stop by this wonderful establishment.

Nelson the bartender is the man! He has lots of knowledge on food and beverage, also, I was in here on Tuesday night with a woman who I have been seeing and at around 11:00 p.m. she mentioned to me that she was hungry but the kitchen was closed so Nelson, I can't praise him enough, went into the kitchen and turned all the equipment on and made her chicken fingers, French fries and clam chowder

Great service. Personable staff. Excellent pours of Guinness on tap! Oh, and their food is delicious too.

We just moved to the area so my daughter and I stopped in to get something to eat. The people, food and atmosphere was fantastic!! Great place!!

This place is always so much fun! Jeff is a great bartender and I always find a good snack here too!
