Mexico City Cafe

I have been on a bit of a Mexican food craze lately and have been focused on trying anything that I haven't had before. I came to Mexico City Cafe to check out their sopes. I recently tried tostadas, and I would say sopes are like their strong relative. The sopes were crispy on the bottom, softer on top, and served as a great base for all of the delicious ingredients. They give you a fork to eat them, but I learned towards the end that it's just easier to pick them up and eat them with your hands. I ordered carnitas, barbacoa, and tinga sopes. The meat was super tender and the tinga had some good flavor to it. The carnitas and barbacoa meat was fairly bland and could've used some more seasoning to it. However, the salsas that accompanied the sopes helped add some extra zing to them. They also give you complimentary chips and salsa which is nice! I would definitely stop by this spot if you are in the area. It seemed like it was a local spot since there was a good flow of people during lunch hour.

Mexico City Cafe is a hidden gem. They offer a great variety of options - including breakfast all day. I overheard a customer say that it was the best guacamole she has had in any restaurant. Julio explained that they make it daily from fresh avocados. Julio and the other employees were all very friendly and efficient!

I ordered the fajita bowl with steak. It was simply delicious, with the dressing being slightly spicy, just head off to give the dish a slide kick. The service is quick, and as a plus they sell Mexican Coke.

Fish tacos and sopas were great! Service wasn't super quick. Didn't give a lot of chips with the salsa. It feels very much like a family run operation. Food was worth the price. Music was loud, the place did not feel super well maintained.

Good flavor tacos, authentic size just like in Mexico, I had the barbacoa, al pastor and asada, that's how I rate them also. Beans and rice are ok. They do offer more if you want, indoor and outdoor seating.
Owner please get rid of taco holder the plate would look more appetizing.

Food is amazingly delicious! I got the taco platter, fish and shrimp tacos. The size portion was huge! Overfilled with meat. I ordered online, it was fast and easy and the counter service was good. Was greeted upon arrival. Will definitely will come back!

Family run, locally owned, fantastic find! Super friendly staff. Amazingly fresh tasty food. Great value! Salsas are the hero! The food was so good that we placed another order to bring more food home for later! When we are back in the area we will be stopping in.

Portions are large! The meat was so flavorful and tender !!! The hot sauce was spicy new to Minnesota from Texas and haven’t found a good Mexican food joint that’s lived up to my expectations but this place blew me away !!! Definitely worth the money. Also I don’t know her name but the girl at the front was so welcoming and down to earth. Will be coming back ! Also the FLAN YUM

Food is amazing here! It’s a little family owned restaurant and everyone always has a smile. Service is great. Very affordable. Can’t say enough good things.

Great food and service, had the veggie burrito bowl (so large, couldn't finish it all), he had carnitas burrito, free chips and salsa when eating in. Churros we're so good! Sat outside and watched all the neighborhood people walking by, nextdoor business has beautiful flowers in front of their store, lovely experience, easy parking, they also have a dedicated space for pick up orders. Will return.

I had the chicken enchiladas and they were phenomenal. Complimentary chips and salsa.
The chips were high quality. All the ingredients were very good. Highly recommended.

Friendly service, high quality fresh food, plenty of options (also vegetarian friendly, my wife has ordered a veg bowl and chimichangas, both were excellent) In my top 3 Mexican restaurants around the twin cities!

First time coming in and was I thoroughly surprised at how good and fresh the food is as well as how friendly the service is. From the moment you enter this delightfully cute establishment you are greeted kindly and treated as if you’re family. I can’t wait to try their breakfast! Definitely a hidden gem in St. Louis Park, you DONT want to miss this place if you’re hankering for some Mexican food.

Only ordered through Foodsby. Both times the Mexico City Burrito has been killer, I get mine with chicken and let them do the rest. It's my go to now every time I order. The chips and salsa are amazing, they are what bright me back. Chips have always been cooked perfectly, the salsa was not something I was used to having flavor wise but it grew on me after my first time and is something I have to have with my order.

Delicious food!! had a nice basic kids meal menus too. The staff was amazing and super friendly and understanding when we came with 2 toddlers.

Food is amazing. Not a lot of seating inside but will come back again. Fresh food and fast cooks.

Authentic Mexican is hard to come by in this area. I lived in Mexico City for several years, and this food brought me back to the wonderful flavors of the city. Julio hails from Mexico City and was the first person we met when we walked in.

Fresh chips and green and red salsa with every order - rare for a fast casual place. The red salsa is delicious, with a good amount of kick.

He also serves aquas frescas - horchata and several other flavors.

This place has always been good, but they’ve up’ed their game recently. Now this place is seriously great. Chorizo and pastor tacos slap. Super reasonable price too.

Best Mexican outside Minneapolis. 5-Star COVID 19 protocols: shields, masks, gloves, sparkling clean and regularly wiping up.

Friday night at 6:00. This place was definitely slammed and I had to wait about 15 min after my online pickup time, but that’s probably just because everyone knows what’s up. Your patience will be rewarded. Pictured are the tacos, but I hade enchiladas and oh my god, the mole is to die for. Probably some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. St Louis Park doesn’t have a ton of locally owned restaurants, so I’m glad we’re blessed with this gem in our neighborhood. 10/10, would taco again.
