The House on the Hill Bed and Breakfast

My husband and I just returned from our vacation stay at this charming bed & breakfast. Had it not been for a simple gift certificate, we would have likely never discovered this warm and cozy place and our new appreciation for B&B's. Our Hosts/Innkeepers were friendly and hospitable, and every breakfast provided by the Chef, (made with locally sourced food and farm fresh eggs) was simply outstanding! Kudos to the entire staff for helping us see what the right B&B can offer.

Our two stays here have been our favorite B&B experience. We stayed in the Maple Room and happily fell asleep to the babbling brook. Excellent 'home base' for visiting many great northern Michigan locations with great amenities on property, including hiking trails and canoe to explore the lake.

The new owners are amazing! Rooms have been re-decorated and the breakfast was unbelievable. We will definitely be back very soon.

We had a really good time this weekend. It was definitely a small slice of paradise, a nice breath of fresh air away from our busy and stressful lives. The property was beautiful, and the room was very cozy. The food was unquestionably fresh and delicious. My favorite part was waking up in the comfortable bed with absolutely no responsibility, and smelling the delicious breakfast cooking for us downstairs early in the morning. Highly recommend experience to everyone and anyone. We can't wait to come back.

We stayed in the Maple Room and it was a tiny bit of heaven. From the babbling brook, to the wonderfully appointed room with fireplace and the most comfortable pillows ever, to the chef-inspired breakfast, we could not have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend staying here, the place is beautiful and so peaceful. Marci and Phil are wonderful hosts and breakfast was delicious both mornings. They have a beautiful piece of property and we are looking forward to coming back to enjoy some summer fun on the lake. I also want to sit on that beautiful front porch 😊. We did get to do a little snowshoeing on the property which was fun, even did a moonlight walk, so peaceful. Thanks again for a lovely weekend, we will be back!

This was our first visit to House on the Hill. We stayed in the Maple Room, which is in the Carriage House behind the main house, and it was very pleasant. The main house is also nice with ample room for reading and relaxing, including on the large front porch. Marci's breakfasts are excellent, and weather permitting, you can have breakfast on the porch. We’re golfers so Ellsworth provides a central location to visit courses at Shanty Creek, Boyne, and Petoskey. Likewise, there's many restaurant options within a 30-minute drive. We did not use the canoes or kayaks but that's a nice option for guests. Marci and Phil are very experienced innkeepers, and we highly recommend their B & B. We're looking forward to returning next year.

Wonderful Bed & Breakfast. Phil and Marci do a fantastic job to ensure their guests enjoy the stay. Super clean charming accommodations, delightful breakfast and peaceful location. We stayed over the July 4th weekend and were hosting our daughter's wedding at avenue across the street. Marci and Phillip were so attentive to our situation, because of the busyness of the weekend we enjoyed the breakfast to go option for the first two mornings, they even wrote a personalized message on our breakfast box the day of the wedding. What a nice touch! The other mornings we enjoyed breakfast on the fabulous front porch with a delicious breakfast, the quiche and fresh salad and fruit selections were great. We stayed in the carriage house, it was lovely, quiet, clean and decorated with a warm welcome feel. We will stay again. This little burg of Ellsworth has some very special people running wonderful business.

I booked 3 rooms at the house on the hill b&b for my wedding weekend. My family doesn't even speak English but they had the best time here. The rooms were very spacious, comfortable and absolutely stunning. We actually loved not having a TV in our room because it gave us time to enjoy the trail in the back and the beautiful fall colors. I think the breakfast was definitely one of our favorite part of our stay. Everything was warm, homemade and DELICIOUS. We absolutely loved staying here. The owners were so helpful and kind to us and made our weekend so special. We could not have picked a better place to stay for our wedding weekend. This place seemed like it's kinda out of the way but really it's pretty close to everything. (Very close to castle farms and downtown). I would recommend this place to anyone. I know we will definitely be coming back in the future :)

My wife and I had the BEST first B&B experience at House on the Hill for an anniversary trip. Excellent hosts, food, cleanliness, and hospitality. Breakfast each morning was fantastic. The location was very quiet, relaxing, yet close to all of the great nearby towns for shopping & exploring. We’ll find a way to come back!

Lovely Weekend
We had a wonderful weekend at House on the Hill. We stayed in the Birch Room. It was comfortable and welcoming. The grounds were beautiful. The nature path was wooded with so many trees, flowers and wildlife. We took an hour hike and still didn’t see everything. Across the street St. Clair Lake was so relaxing. My husband enjoyed fishing while I enjoyed the sights and sounds. We hope to take advantage of the canoes and paddle boat next time we visit. Breakfast on the porch was charming and delicious. The hospitality area was stocked with beverages and snacks. My only recommendation is to upgrade the television. We will definitely visit again.

We had a great experience here! The room we stayed in was very clean and recently updated according to the home owners! It was a very pleasant experience. The owners were very hospitable and very friendly to talk to. They set up a fire for us and the breakfast was incredible- nothing simple. We were treated! It was a great opportunity to talk to other people staying here. The night we stayed we took a paddle boat out. The water was beautiful in the evening. There wasn’t central air but our room had an ac unit which worked out well! I was unsure what a bed and breakfast would be like, but Phil and Marci made it a great first experience. Also for what’s included, kayaking, paddle boats, hiking, bonfires, canoeing; it’s a really great price! We will go here again when we return to Charlevoix!

Our stay at this Bed & Breakfast was wonderful! It is located close to many of NW Michigan's cutest towns and things to explore. We were able to go on a new adventure every day. The room was sparkling clean and comfy. The three course breakfast were divine—large portions of nutritious, homemade frittatas, quiches, etc. Marci and her husband's hospitality was top-notch. They were always accommodating and ready with great suggestions of where to go and eat in the area.

My husband and I stayed at this lovely B&B for a much needed R&R. We couldn't have picked a better place. The room was lovely and very comfortable. The breakfasts were AMAZING! The scenic views are spectacular surrounding this delightful house. The lake and the hiking trails were breathtaking. We loved visiting with our host (Marci) and appreciated her perfection with every detail. We are already looking at the calendar to see when we can return! Thank you Marci:)

We came here for part of our honeymoon. Mostly enjoyed the quiet location and beautiful scenery. Truly loved every moment of our experience. The room was very comfortable and neatly furnished. The breakfasts were always very delicious and expertly crafted. Also enjoyed the complementary activities we could participate in as well. We canoed down the Chain of Lakes for part of a day enjoying all of the scenery. It was an unforgettable experience. Can't wait to go back!

Our first stay at a bed an breakfast and it was cozy and thoroughly enjoyable. Our Host and Hostess were very kind and gracious. Marci is an excellent cook. We met so many nice couples experiencing their first visits as well. The Cherry room felt like something from the Halmark channel as well as the entire atmosphere of the house and property. Thank you Marci and Philip for a memorable experience of rest, relaxation, good food and great company. Well done

Marci and Phil are spectacular hosts! The house, full of history and charm is really a cool place to stay. Ask Phil for a little history and he's more than happy to provide. Marci's breakfasts are flavorful and many ingredients come from local growers and farmers. My wife and I had a very relaxing stay this past week - the weather was very agreeable and we were able to keep the windows open all day and night! The stars filled the sky each evening and we had access to a nearly private beach that Phil can direct you toward. We go to many BnB's and the tHotH was one of the BEST! Thank you Marci and Phil for a wonderful week! We look forward to our next visit!

I had the opportunity to stay at House on the Hill Bed & Breakfast. Unlike most B&B's, the rooms are very large in this restored farm house. The property is directly across the street from a lake which provides a beautiful view. My favorite part is the back portion of the property. Very well maintained and a relaxing stream that I could stare at for hours. Marci is your Innkeeper and local travel expert. She provides a fantastic experience and delivers an even better breakfast. If you are traveling up north for a Pure Michigan experience, I would highly recommend staying.
