Max Creek Vortex

Use a trail app and this trail is a great loop. Wore shorts and the Chiggers got my legs (They will itch for a week). Stayed away from foliage as much as possible. Max creek was dry but there were still pools the dog could swim in. I don't know why people worry about getting lost in here, head in ANY direction and you will eventually come to a road.

Found knife about 150' from trail head around 5:00 pm. You will have to give a detailed description to claim.

Fairly scenic area with a three and one half mile loop hiking and horse trail but I would advise using a trail app as it is easy to lose the trail in a few spots.

Unkept and in the middle of nowhere.

Obviously a beautiful area and I’d love to return here to experience supernatural stuff. But the trails are practically non existent. They have markers on trees, but they’re very vague, my friends and I actually got turned around here and almost got actually lost in the woods. I even started to panic a bit 😰. They desperately need to work harder at making actual trails or have better signs and markers. I’ve been to dozens of trails around the Shawnee area and many are very clear as to where you’re going with markers and trails cut into the ground.

Beautiful area to get super lost! River to River trail "lose your self in the nature of southern Illinois!".

They mark new trails and leave half the old markers up so you have no idea which way to go.
