Beautifully kept historical bridge on old route 66 that connects Illinois to Missouri. It is now a pedestrian bridge with a great overlook of Saint Louis, and the two water tower buildings. Free parking, and about a mile all the way across.

Old historic bridge that was part of Route 66, the 22-degree bend is truly something. Great to walk across or bike across. City of Madison locks it at sunset so no access and parking is only on the IL side.

Very beautiful walk across the bridge with views of St. Louis skyline, Mississippi River, and nature in general. Felt neat to take a walk through history.

This Was my first time at this bridge 🌉. It been there since the 80s. Not really sure 👍 how long but me and my friend went there for a few reasons . One I have always wanted to see the bridge 🌁 and the second reason they used this bridge in one of my favorite films 🎥 and that movie is escape from New York . They use the bridge towards the end of the film and just to walk on it was very very very cool
😎 I will say make sure you you go to the bathroom before you get there because the bathrooms that are the front of the bridge are suppose to be open and they are not. I tried the handle and it was locked 🔐 . So use the restroom 🚻 before you go. I think there are bathrooms 🚽 on the other side if the bridge that you can use . Someone that was there told us that . Hope he was telling the truth. . No one was there so it’s very peaceful and you can walk or run over it
You can also bike across it . They no longer have cars 🚙 go across it . We pretty much had it all to ourselves and we filmed on it for my YouTube vlog and then we left . If you live in IL or Missouri it is really worth checking out at least once
I totally 💯 recommend it

I love stopping here and walking the bridge. Beautiful place, I love the history behind the bridge and the fact you can still walk across it to either Illinois and Missouri

This is Americana. This isnt your glitz and glamor and lights and stores and restaurants. It is a nearly abandoned 2-3 mile stretch of old Route 66 leading up to the bridge (from the east), which gives you some insight into motor travel during the mid-20th century. The bridge itself is NOT drivable, but you can park and walk (or run or cycle) the nearly 1.0 miles from IL to MO (or from MO to IL). There are a few info placards near the bridge, but that is about it. The views from the bridge are amazing and (despite its age) the bridge is VERY sound and sturdy.

Experience this historic bridge by walking over. Part of the bridge turns 20 degrees. Neat sign board on the Wisconsin side includes a button to play the song "Get Your Kicks on Route 66".

The park is in excellent shape. It is a great place to bike several different routes: Riverfront Trail, Into Madison County for their trails, or be adventurous and ride up to Confluence Conservation Area.

Historic mile long bridge. Bit of a drive to get to the parking lot, you cross a small channel bridge first.

Great stop on a Route 66 trip for a chance to see the mighty Mississippi and stretch your legs!

Lots of parking, RV and trailer spots available.

Great spot to get near some water, rapids more visible during low water though.

The Old Chain of Rocks Bridge is a beautiful place to visit. There are wonderful views of the Mississippi River. You can even see the Arch. It is very calming. The air seems cleaner as you walk the bridge. There’s a great little park area on the Missouri entrance. Enjoy it!

This is a great place to get an airal view of the Mighty Missssippi River. The bridge spans one mile across the walk bridge, two miles round trip. There are benches along to way to either stop for a breather or to just enjoy the view. There are also binoculars to see some of the landmarks of the city. It's a nice, clean, peaceful, and quiet place to just enjoy the beauty of this magnificent river!

Amazing bridge. Great walk on a piece of historical Rt. 66. Best time for photo is near sunset. One mile bridge across the Mississippi River. So plan at least one hour for a round trip. Bridge will be cleared by police at around 9:15pm in June.

Very cool and historic hike across the Mississippi River on the old Route 66 bridge. A very unique dog leg in the bridge midway across the river.

A Route 66 icon, accessible only by foot or bike. As of April 23, the Missouri side is under construction. If you're driving, park on Illinois side and walk up. Otherwise the Missouri side is open for pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
