What a spectacular little historic sight. It is a bit hard to find, behind an ancient oak and next to a commerical building. The house was open... we walked in and enjoyed a private little visit. I sure hope the owner and City can agree to a plan to save the house.

One of the neatest pieces of Alabama history that I have visited in a while. Tolstoy Park is a historic residence in Montrose, Alabama. The house was built by Henry Stuart, an Englishman who had emigrated to the United States as a child. Stuart was living in Nampa, Idaho, when he was diagnosed with tuberculosis and advised to move to a warmer climate to live out his days. No fee to enter 😊 Just treat it with the respect that a piece of history deserves 📸

Unique cute little house! Free to visit, and it's worth it if you want to see a quick little unique attraction in the area. We did a road trip to the southern states and decided to stop here.

We didn't go too far out of our way. It was a quick visit with a few pictures. If we went far out of our way, it wouldn't be worth it. But it was cute and nice to see for a quick stop along the way!

I read the book last year and wanted to see it for myself. So glad we did. I was saddened to see it in disrepair, but still worth the trip. It isn't easy to find so don't get discouraged, remember it is in a parking lot.

This place is worth a visit. It is located in a business plaza parking lot so don't be surprised when your GPS guides you into what seems like the wrong place. It is not visible right off hwy 98 but once you pull into the parking lot you can't miss it. We were able to park and visit the site without any issue. It is an interesting building and my kids loved seeing it and being able to go inside was a bonus. It made for a quick but interesting stop.

A really cool little house that will transport you to a little village in old Russia. A tribute to one of the world’s greatest authors.

Wonderfully peaceful little home. The story behind it is so interesting. Take your time and read the posters, study the pictures and feel the serenity. Leave a few coins in the basket on the table too. I ordered the wonderful book The Poet of Tolstoy Park based on the story of the builder of the home. It's sad that the home is no longer nestled on its 10 wooded acres but good that it has been restored and loved. He came to die in the place, built a sanctuary and lived on for 18 more years. Well done Henry James Stuart.... Rest In Peace.

Read Sonny Brewer’s book, THE POET OF TOLSTOY PARK, and visited this enchanting domicile. Brought to life the words on the pages of Brewer’s book about its resident, Henry Stuart. Great place for a book group field trip. Young and old.

What a beautiful building. Looks like a fantasy story house. Very humbling and unique. Free to visit. Very close to other buildings and businesses so be mindful not to block them. It's literally behind a lawyers office.

A friend of mine posted pictures of Tolstoy Park & I had to go there. I love history, visiting historic places, & learning their stories. It was so neat to be able to go inside & look around. Now I need to get the book THE POET OF TOLSTOY & read it!

Nice little diversion in the middle of the town. Really takes you back in time. They have books that were published in the 1800's that you can look at. Very nice place to visit.

Reading The Poet of Tolstoy Park, a semi biographical novel about Fairhope in early 20th century. Was a treat to find this spot and even though it butts against an office building, I could feel the great vibe.
