Roan Mountain State Park Campground (RV & Tents)

Absolutely beautiful. A little tight on the upper half. But easily doable for sure. Seen some fairly big rigs come through up top. Beautiful lower section as well. I think the only downfall was when everyone is leaving the dump area gets real crowded and it's hard to maneuver. Would be so much easier if they would cut the curb and open up an exit only side. But the creek and the trails through the campground was amazing. Very peaceful and relaxing 😌

This is a beautiful and clean place in the wild. 15 minutes to Carvers Gap. Clean and warm toilets and showers. The parking lot has water, electricity and sewer. No more than two cars are allowed per parking lot. After 10 pm it's quiet. There is a table with a bench and a place for a fire, the grill as well. An armful of firewood costs $6 on site.

🍁Autumn is a great time to visit.
👆Don't forget warm clothes, these are real mountains with changeable weather.

The campground is our new favorite family campground. I believe we had the best tent spot in the whole campground. We can’t wait to camp here again!

What a treat it was to stay here for a couple of nights! Being campground hosts in NC, we appreciated the hospitality and how well taken care of the campground is. The Doe river and the Fred Behrend trail were wonderful. So many deer in the campground and surrounding area!

Beautiful place. Awesome camp hosts! We stayed at site #44. Smallest site but backs up to the creek with an awesome view and sound! Power/electric, water, bath, wifi (works randomly).

Great campground. Water at each site. Firewood $6. Laundry room. Close to the state park with play ground tennis courts. Hiking trails. Rhododendrons everywhere and they bloom in July.

Roan Mountain State Park Campground offers both RV and tent camping. The park office is centrally located and offers all the supplies you may need (fire wood, food, ice, toiletries, etc) at reasonable prices. The park staff is extremely friendly. There are plenty of trails to hike and a stream nearby. The October evenings get cool fast here! Be sure to take advantage of the fire pit and got showers.

Absolutely a beautiful place. The game wardens were so friendly and helpful in suggesting a good hike for us and our dogs. Look forward to going back for a camping trip.

Campground was well maintained and in a gorgeous setting. Campground and park was much cooler and wetter than surrounding areas. Hiking access from the campground - varying levels of difficulty, maps and descriptions provided by the lovely camp managers.

At night and when away from your site, make sure to store food in vehicles and toss trash in the plentiful bear-proof bins - I heard a few creatures investigating my clean site both nights of my stay (2-6am).

Some sites in upper loops are tight. Park staff are strict about the rules. Beautiful park.

I have tent camped for years at Roan Mt. It’s my favorite place to camp. It’s beautiful, and peaceful - as long as the park personnel aren’t blowing leaves! You can camp along a river and listen to it gurgling at night. There are a variety of hikes to take, including driving up the mountain to Carvers Gap. It is hard to get a reservation because the park is so popular. I just wish they would open up the pool, which closed during the COVID shutdown. I am at afraid the state is taking advantage of that to save money. It was a popular summer spot for locals and campers alike.

Very quiet, clean and lots of trees around. Creek runs along one side that is so nice to listen to. Cell service is a hit and miss at times. We camp here at least 2-3 times a year for a week at a time. Electric hook ups and water. No septic facilities at the sites so bring your dump station on wheels to dump and take to the front dump site. Basketball, Volleyball and multiple playgrounds available. Wifi is available but iffy when crowded.

We stay here every year!! The people are wonderful!!!!

Beautiful place with great sites in the woods. Big rigs stay out of the back ones tho... Tight! #64 is the best site per all staff ❤

Roan Mountain State Park is beautifully maintained, well managed, and patrolled by the Park Service. Paul and Brenda, our campground hosts, were the best. They made Robin and me feel welcome, keep check on us, and made us feel like the most important visitors they in the campground. But I’m sure they made everyone feel that way. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Super clean, well maintained campground!!
All the staff we encountered were extremely nice, especially Ms. Pam and Mr. Herold.
We will definitely come back to make more memories and have more fun adventures!
