Louise Open Pit Barbeque

I was driving on I-55 and got off at the exit for Crystal Springs for gas. I looked up restaurants and saw Louise Open Pit Barbeque. I do love BBQ. I am glad I got off the highway when I did. I ordered the full slab of ribs and a side of baked beans. Only had some of the baked beans. Not because I did like them. I did. When I got to eating the ribs. Let's just say that it was hard to stop eating them!!!! Meaty flavorful ribs. Louise BBQ pit is the true side of road restaurant that you want and need to stop at. You and taste the hard work that is put into their ribs.
The thing is, they are not open 7 days a week.

The food here is legit. Probably the best bbq ribs I've ever tried. It's a very popular lunch spot for the locals. The ribs taste amazing, I will definitely go back there for their delicious ribs. The interior is cool too, old school with a country feel to it. The walls are decorated with old photos and old farm tools.

Great pork steak! Setting is old style restaurant with country feel. Nothing fancy at this place but the food and service were great. The BBQ sauce is almost clear and has a nice tang and spice to it. Meat was very tender and tasty. French fries were crispy and fresh tasting. Baked beans were thick and and a nice smoke flavor to them. The server was very friendly and helpful. She even brought me a sample out to taste before ordering. I highly recommend!!

A must stop place if you are in the area. The food is made with love in this casual setting. Highly recommend the pork steak either as a sandwich or platter!

This is in my hometown. Unique is the best word for it. It's been 6 years since I've had it, but it always brings back fond memories. Great work guys!!!

BBQ chicken was some of the best I've ever had. Loved the service and price. Just a grade A humble plate lunch place that I will definitely return to if I'm ever in the area again.

Nice cozy place that truly hits on an original flavor ,that is bbq in this part of the south. Being that sauces tend to be tangy from the vinegar base and a nice kick from the black pepper . Thicker sauce is my thing. But the sauce here is spot on. And super compliments the meats it is made for. As someone who makes his own sauce,and travels the country I have tasted many a sauce and must say ,this place has a pretty damn good thing going on!!!

The pork steak plate was wonderful! Excellent service, side dishes were delicious.
If it wasn't for smoke coming out of the smoker stack we would have missed this treasure.

I don't eat here here often I am health conscious & workout daily But we h went I have a taste for ribs & treat myself. I Always get their rib dinner plate with 2 sides their ribs are always Tasty & their side dishes as well & their Thin & thick bbq Sauces taste great...I have never been unsatisfied with my food... Will be trying their other food options on my treat myself day.

Great place to eat! The food is amazing and their secret sauce goes great with absolutely everything! The prices are fair for what you get! It has an amazing atmosphere that makes you feel right at home! The people have a wonderful southern hospitality and make you feel like family! Highly recommended to everyone that comes to crystal springs!

We stopped in Crystal Springs on our way home from the coast. We were set on Mexican food, but every place was closed for the 4th. I saw the smoke coming from this place, and decided it would be better than fast food. We walked in and it was definitely a small town restaurant, everyone knew everyone. I ordered the rib plate and everyone else had chopped pork sandwiches. The ribs were a bit tough, but that is what you should expect from an open pit barbecue. The sauce was different, but amazing. I just couldn't get enough. I actually bought a pint to take home. It's a sweet vinegar based sauce, very runny, but a great flavor. I cooked my own ribs tonight with the sauce and they tasted great.

Driving from Jackson to the north shore, we looked for a decent lunch stop. This restaurant didn't disappoint. They have daily "Blue Plate Specials" but we wanted to mix it up a bit. I tried a combination of chicken and ribs. Skip the ribs as they are an inferior cut, ah, but the chicken. The chicken is basted with the same sauce as the ribs and probably the pork that is available, very good indeed. The coleslaw is one of the best I've ever had. If you enjoy barbecue you will like this place. The service is special and "down home". Even the tea was great, enjoy dining at this country delight.

We stopped in coming back from a trip and it was 1 oclock and they close at 2 on Sunday. We ordered their rib plate and a pork sandwich. Their food was so country amazingly good. Yummy! If you like real country BBQ on a real smoke pit with homemade BBQ sauce you will LOVE this "hole in the wall" treasure. The decor is not much to see, but the food is well worth the stop!!! I hope y'all love this place as much as we did. It will definitely be on our list of stops when we are headed that way.

They staff is ALWAYS extremely friendly & courteous & the food is DELICIOUS! The best kept secret in Copiah County.

This place was delicous and has some of the best house BBQ sauce I've ever had. The meat was cooked to perfection. Friendly staff and great service. Couldn't ask for anything better in the south!!

Louis's has some of the most interesting barbeque sauce I have ever tasted, in a very good way. It was almost a sweet, black pepper soaked, fairly watery sauce, but it works! The ribs practically fell off the bone and down my throat. I couldn't get enough of the delicious sauce, which you can buy alone for use at home! I was licking the bottom of the plate just to get a little more taste of it. It is kinda out of the way (about 30 min from Jackson, MS) but it is worth the trip. Don't expect much in terms of atmosphere though. It must be a local secret hot spot (I was told I had to go there for good BBQ from a local college). The staff was fast and the food is AMAZING! Be prepared for a dive looking building and simple interior. I think they spent the money on good ribs and cooking appliances or whatever you call a good BBQ pit.

Food was awesome, well worth the small detour. People here were nice, just be aware that the women's restroom may be a little iffy. Overall we enjoyed the food and small town ambience that so often is missing in chain restaurants.
