If you are traveling the Natchez Parkway, do not miss stopping at the sunken trace! The sunken trace is way deeper than I envisioned, and it is quite amazing to walk along it and consider how many other people walked this very trail for thousands of years.

Probably the best views of the Sunken Trace you'll see. The twin Traces is a bit interesting. I assume one was a detour when the other got flooded or too muddy to travel on.
Highly recommend stopping here.

Very interesting. We walked as far as we could. There was alot of fallen trees from previous storms. The view of the trail could be seen. We took pictures.

A good example of erosion by human traffic...imagine the calories burned over the years

Be sure to stop at this site if you are driving along the Natchez Trace. There is a short path that leads to a small section of trail that allows you to walk in the footsteps of those that had used the Trace for hundreds of years.

You can imagine how dangerous it would have been walking down this path. You would be so vulnerable to bandits from above.

Very nice place to stop and get an important history lesson! Pictures does not do it justice. When your actually there you can really see what it was like!

Is quite surprising how beautiful this spot is. Quiet and inviting, you could easily spend half an hour here. I lingered for just 15 minutes, which was enough.

really good example of how the trace was eroded down from traffic and nature.

The Sunken Trace is right next to the parking lot. Great spot to feel like you are on the historic trail. Sign is small and easy to miss.

The trace is about 20 to 25 feet below ground level. The thought of walking over 440 miles in these conditions is mind blowing. A whole army could be there waiting to ambush you and you would never know. Great parking and walk to the trace. There is a access path to the trace that is not too steep.

Lovely little stop along the Natchez Trace. It's great to get an idea of what the original Trace looked like when it was used to travel between Nashville and Natchez on foot or by horse.

Walk in the step of The travelers who had to navigate the path and feel the emotion of hope and dread all in one.

"This is the Natchez Trace. For many years it served man well, but as it is with many things when it's usefulness passed, it was abandoned.
Over the years, this time-worn path has been a silent witness to honor and dishonor. It bears the prints of countless men.
Walk down the shaded trail - leave your prints in the dust, not for others to see, but for the road to remember."

Very cool to walk this ravine that was used hundreds of years ago to travel through the States of Mississippi. A much easier trip for us today but was much more treacherous back then.
