Marathon Campground

Absolutely loved this campground. Beautifully kept, well spaced out campsites, and very clean. Loved that there was almost no cell reception.

Y'all don't even visit this place, ok. It is literally the perfect camping spot for a weekend getaway, and I don't want it to be packed when I go back.

I'm not going to tell you about the small beach, the fishing, the stars, the trails, the boating, the peace, or the beauty of nature.

I'll just tell you that the bathrooms are straight-up filled with spiders. My wife and daughter used a pop-up poo tent. That's how many spiders. Like, so many you guys. Oh, and no cell service with Verizon.

And I'm STILL GIVING IT 5 STARS.

Amazingly, quiet and private. It's very clean and well kept. It's one of the nicest federal campgrounds I've ever been.

There is a trail that goes all the way around the lake and a boat ramp.

20-30 campsites with utilities with roughly 10 lakefront. The fishing looks ripe.

Cell service fades in and out.

Loved everything about this off the beaten path campground. It was practically empty on the weekday that I camped there in early October. Watch out though for tiny ants. I must have parked my motorcycle near a mound. They were all over the front section of the bike the next morning and went for a ride.

Very quiet and remote. Took out camper on Friday and Saturday the weekend of the Nov 13. Only a couple campers and plenty of site choices. No reservations but from the conversations I had with host and ranger, this area is usually not fully booked. Beautiful view of the lake, no sewer hook up but they do have dump station. If you love the wilderness and beauty of the forest then this is a wonderful gem.

A beautiful campground, so peaceful and quiet. Bathrooms could use a good cleaning.. but heck we're camping right. Only icky thing I could say, is the camp host could probably wait until a little later in the morning to run the leaf blower up and down the street. Not really what we want to hear first thing in the morning but kudos to him for doing a great job!

These sites were clearly set up by someone who actually camps. Everything was right where you wanted it. Bathrooms were also very clean. Very peaceful lake side sites, nice sunrise views. Saw some interesting water foul but they were camera shy.

Clean and quiet, nice restroom and showers. Will definitely drive the 600 miles to stay here again.

This is a great place for beginner, primitive campers who aren't ready to be completely alone in the woods. The campgrounds are flat and come with a fire pit, a grill, and a picnic table.

Nice spot for get-togethers. We got there early and got a pavillion. We grilled, swam, fished and brought kayaks. They have camping that we will be using in the near future.

It looks the same as it did when I was a kid growing up in Montrose and piling into pickups going to the lake to swim. I've passed the torch on to my 12 year old daughter to enjoy as much as I did.

We love it everytime we go. Very nice and relaxing. Clean and beautiful place to stay.
