Coconut Creek Parks and Recreation Department

Coconut Creek has two recreation complexes for it's residents and this review is for the one in the northern part of the city at Sol Press Blvd. The main reason to go to this one is because it contains the gym which you can join if you are a city resident. I was here tonight for a Zumba class. Even though I am not a gym member I can still take a class for $6 with proof of residency. They offer Zumba Monday and Wednesday nights at 7:30 to 8:30 as well as Saturday mornings.

Besides the fitness center the recreation center has a large gym with bleachers and a basketball court. When my daughter was in elementary school she belonged to a basketball team that had it's games here. They also offer different classes and events for children as well as adults. The City of Coconut Creek does a fantastic job of creating events for it's residents. They are affordable and varied. Events include fun things like art classes, treasure hunts, pumpkin carving, dances, breakfast with Santa, and egg hunts. Flyers for everything they offer can be found in the lobby of the recreation center. The city also hosts an affordable summer camp for the children of the city every summer at both recreation centers.

On March 17 at 7 AM the Women's Club of Coconut Creek is hosting it's annual garage sale here to benefit it's scholarship fund. I always find some great and inexpensive treasure. Don't be late if you want to come because the line starts well before the open time.

As a Coconut Creek resident I really appreciate everything the recreation staff does to make fun and affordable outings and entertainment for it's residents. I have always found the staff at the recreation centers to be friendly and helpful and some have even become close friends through the years. If you are a resident and haven't checked out the recreation center lately then you are missing out. There is always something great going on.
