This was my first time at Pie for Breakfast. It is highly recommended. The bottomless mug of Commonplace coffee is a tasty way to start the meal. I ordered the Buttermilk Pancakes. They were very flavorful and fluffy, and they tasted great with the PA maple syrup. In fact, these were the best buttermilk pancakes that I have ever had in Pittsburgh! I highly recommend this restaurant.

Two words.....Pie & Coffee.
Been wanting to go here and should have a long time ago... Nice atmosphere great coffee with kitschy creamers. Had to grab a coffee cup for home too. Mouth watering apple onion quiche, cheesy grits i could have swam in for days, and had the most special pie...Vinegar pie! Dont let the name scare you its so balanced with sweet and that hint of vinegar to cut the sweetness with. We will be back!

Almost devoured entire pie until I realized I hadn’t taken a picture yet. The vinegar pie is super tasty and the espresso pairs well with it. The top layer of the pie is just caramélisés pie filling which is delicious~ The crust is has a nice firmness to it and not soggy at all.

My server was also super accommodating when I told him I needed to conference call someone. Nice and chill atmosphere. The WiFi isn’t for customers though and only for the point of sale machines.

I didn't think I would like this place, but Oh. My. God! Amazing breakfast/ brunch food all from scratch! Hands down my new favorite breakfast place! The vinegar pie blew my mind. You have to try it 👍

Tried before the pandemic. Simple enough breakfast. Could get anywhere else. Not really sure what to add except it’s an oasis for this kind of cuisine in Oakland.

Food was delicious and I would highly recommend the vinegar pie. I think this place just has some kinks to work out since they just opened; I’d suggest creating take out options.

Great food. Small but very nice beer list. Excellent coffee and breakfast cocktails.

What’s not to love about “Pie for Breakfast”!? They prepare all locally sourced, high-quality food with perfection, at reasonable prices! I just had the steak and eggs breakfast yesterday and was blown away with everything I got. Some might think how do you mess up breakfast… well some places do. My steak was cooked very nicely at medium rare, seasoned very well and was very tender. The potatoes were crisp on the edges and soft in the middle, and the eggs were just as dippy as my grandma used to make them for me! I also got a side dish of the house made sausage gravy! It was bomb Diggity! Match that with the salt risen bread toasted nicely and you’re eating a “happy meal”. ( at least, that’s how I was feeling ) It’s nice when places don’t cut corners on quality! The customer service and attention from the staff was also on point. I had a few questions that were quickly answered with knowledgeable responses It was my pleasure to be dining there. Enjoy!!

We had so much fun eating here! It's kid friendly, and the ham and pancakes were some of the best we've had. The menu also has some lighter options, and it's easy to mix and match elements to get what you want. We did try some pie, but barely had room for it! The coffee is also better than what you'd expect at a diner, and they have an espresso machine so you have more options. It was really busy, but we never felt rushed. Overall, this place had upped the game on what a diner can be!

I got the eggs, toast, grits, and kielbasa and it was fantastic! Grits were cheesy and eggs were perfect. My wife's plantain and cheese quiche was phenomenal as well. We got two slices of pie, one vinegar and the other chocolate chess, and they were beyond expectations. Vinegar pie is not sour at all. Kind of like an apple pie without the apples. Chocolate chess was fudgy brownie goodness. All around excellent.

Ate here for the first time. This is a new place in Oakland. Had the two egg scrambled. Loved the eggs. The salt risen toast was good. The home fries, bacon and sausage were GREAT! Service was even better than the food. Our waiter was on top of refills. Will have to try this place for lunch and dinner. I'm excited to see how the menu develops. My only suggestion is to add mimosas as a breakfast drink.

Had a delicious dinner and great service today! Have been there once before for breakfast- also excellent! Somewhat limited menu which changes daily- perfect & a real plus, as everything is made to order! Meat loaf, lamb, black eyed peas, cucumber salad, porky greens were uniformly outstanding. Lots of interesting and reasonably priced options from the bar too. No crowd if you go for an early dinner.
Highly recommended!!

Food: Really good.
For a place that looks like a cozy breakfast nook, the food is absolutely delicious. Everything is homemade is quality and given in appropriate portions. Definitely nailed the “oh, I like this!” factor.

Price: Little high.
For a place that looks like a cozy breakfast nook, the prices are more than you would expect. Unless you work for Uber or Google here, eating here isn’t a great place to just take all your friends on a whim. To their credit, the prices match the quality of food.

Experience: Good.
Counter and table seating let’s you go solo or as a group. Staff is very prompt and polite. A place where you can order and eat solo comfortably is rare, but this is that place.

Had the drip coffee which was piping hot and egg/salt toast/ham steak breakfast. All were great and took a piece of the vinegar pie home for later. If you order the pancakes, you might want to order a side if you're particularly hungry since they are on the smaller side. This place was packed by 8:30 AM so get here early or be prepared for a (very worthwhile) wait!

The pie is delicious! The breakfast is great too. There are your standard fare egg dishes and a rotating selection of specialities, like meatloaf and smoked homemade sausage. I find it hard not to just stay true to the namesake and *just* have "Pie for Breakfast" when visiting.

Waited a while but the food was excellent. Not 5 minutes after we ordered did it start arriving at our table. A little on the pricier side for a breakfast place. Salt rising toast was very good. Of course had to follow up the meal with a slice of their signature vinegar pie (it's not what you think). Would definitely come back here.

The food here it's delicious and there is nice ambiance.

The food is made with quality ingredients, you get real maple syrup with your pancakes, and fresh ingredients elsewhere.

The place is fairly busy most days but its large enough it's fairly easy to get a seat. There is the window seat and the bar if you are dining alone and booths and tables if you are with folks.

superb-best casual dining in the city. I've eaten there a dozen times since they openned ~21/2 mos ago and it's been great every time. I don't care about pie usually (and usually will eat the filling only) but theirs are unbelievably good. The crust is crispy/crunchy and the filling is the vehicle upon which it rides. House made bacon-superb. Every last item is delicious. There has never been a crumb of anything left any time we've eaten there. Supper is just as good.

UPDATE: I'm updating my review based on my numerous visits in the months after they've opened. As they've ironed out the service kinks, I've had nothing but amazing experiences here since. This is my favorite breakfast spot in Pittsburgh.

Wow, I was so impressed with both of my breakfasts here. Everything is exceptional - the best breakfast food I've had in Pittsburgh. The homemade pies are, of course, a standout. Just a few misses on service on both visits (the first time, they got a few parts of the order wrong; the second time, they gave us someone else's order, and it was almost identical, so we started eating it) keep it from being a 5 star choice.

They serve absolutely scrumptious greens with the breakfasts! The vinegar pie sounds strange but it's soooo good - whoops, now there's less for me! Such a cute place and the staff is so helpful. Use the parking garage across the street if there isn't anything on the street. Try EVERY pie or you'll regret it. Prices are reasonable too.
