I've never hiked at Tar Hollow State Park before and I didn't know what to expect. I knew the park was only an area of the larger Tar Hollow State Forest. I chose the Ross Hollow Trail. The trail was well marked and maintained. It is a moderate to difficult trail but being in a forest the leaves made it a little more challenging. There are a few switchbacks in the beginning of the trail and a lot of hiking on what seemed to be the rim part of the trail. There isn't the usual gorges and rock formations that you might expect in the area but it is a forest trail. I found it enjoyable and scenic. After finishing the trail, Pine Lake is only a quarter of a mile away so I spent some time walking a path around it. It is a very tranquil lake with great scenery.

Great park with beautiful views. The north and south ridge roads are narrow and winding, offering spectacular views of the forests. There are many trails to hike along the upper ridges. Make sure to bring water and proper footwear as you can go from flat and easy to steep and challenging within 50 yards.

We stayed at some cabins nearby and we happened upon these trails after deciding old man's cave was waaaaay too busy. We came across the campsite to use the rest rooms right quick and it was lively with families cooking out, children bike riding and having fun. Surprisingly we only happened upon 2 other people on the trail. It was so serene and peaceful. Lush and green , some muddy inclines that I enjoy climbing up. It took about 2 hours for our group to finish so we were feeling pretty good by the end of it. Plenty of up and down bits, occasional logs to sit on, I'd love to go back during the fall and see all the leaves changing color.

We fell in love with this state park. We had no idea what to expect because it's 80 miles from the interstate. However, it was quiet, and beautiful and trails everywhere. However, if you a bit princess, then you may not like it here. It only has electric hookup. No water and no septic, but, nothing you can't handle to have this blissful place.

This is a lesser-known (and thus used) State Park. We camped overnight there and found the bathrooms, green spaces, picnic areas and general cleanliness to be pretty outstanding for a State Park. They do have a bath hiuse6with showers which are only. Couple years old, and also pretty well maintained.

Overall, a great spot for Ohioans to visit.

Was a beautiful day, and the puppies loved the fresh air. Be aware they have the old pit toilets!! Not a fan of that!!

The day we were there was a pleasantly warm summer day. 4-5 kids were swimming off the dock but other then this it was quite deserted. A walk around the beach area to see the picturesque little lake and then a blaze in one of the fire rings in beautiful surroundings! Definitely worth a visit.

One nice thing to know about Ohio's SP is there isn't a fee for day use. Remarkable!

Great camping experience! Waited too late to book in hocking hills state park but found a site here instead. We are tent campers and stayed in site 106 on "Northridge". Loved that the non-electric tent sites were so isolated from the RV campers. Site 107 gets muddy with a lot of rain. Sites 108-112 have a pretty significant slope. Each site in the loop has a picnic table and fire ring. There's a dumpster, pit toilets, and water. It was a short drive to the rest of the campers, a great hot shower, fantastic general store, miniature golf, and the beach to swim or lake to kayak. Took us at least 30 minutes to drive to the common hocking hills hikes but well worth it. We would return.

Off the beaten path park with amazing trail system. Trails are well maintained, challenging terrain with excellent wildlife viewing. A gem away from civilization.

Great service. Reserve and pay online and go camping. Some sites are along a creek and going to sleep next to the sound of water flowing through a creek is amazing. There is WIFI at the general store but otherwise this appears to be a service dead zone. But unplugging is half the point of camping isn't it?

The state forest is Beautiful with tall majestic trees, Excellent place for hiking.the trails are primitive and narrow, at some.places, you have to crawl under or climb over a fallen tree. Some other places, the trail became especially narrow when a tree toppled and took part of the trail with it. The forest is humid, and has many varieties of brightly colored mushrooms.
The Logan trail north loop is challenging, with lots of climbing. The south loop is much flatter in comparison.

Nice park with lots of trails and camping. The Logan Trail north loop has a lot of blow downs in one section and a trail redirect that's confusing and difficult to navigate, but still a nice trail.

Actually caught my first fish there. It had a nice swimming area, A beautiful lake for catching fish, and I enjoyed the mini golf and animal exhibit. I didn't really like using the restroom though, it had too many bugs.
