This is a great place to visit. Nice little area to walk around. Plenty of parking and easy to get in and out of. They are always doing something to spruce things up and keep it historically accurate.

Johnson Hall was the residence of Sir William Johnson, an Irish pioneer who became an influential British Superintendent of Indian Affairs. Johnson was a very important colonist who did much to build the future United States even though he was working for the British.
The home of William Johnson has been nearly completely restored and renovated in recent years. Each room is created or recreated to look as it would of when he owned the house in the 1700's. There are some artifacts and objects that did belong to Johnson that are in the house including a guest log and beaver fur blanket. A title from the King of Britain given to Johnson making him a Baron is also in the visitor center.
The tour given discussed the life of William Johnson and his residence thoroughly. All parts of Johnson's life from his relationship with the Mohawks (they adopted him into their tribe), his family life, his role as a general in the French and Indian War, and his ownership of slaves are brought up on the tour. The are marks on the railings leading up the stairs, which might have been put there by the American Army when they occupied the house during the American Revolution. Johnson supposedly kept a wide variety of animals at his house including flamingos.
There is a nice park outside the house which you can use also enjoy.
Call ahead for a tour. Johnson Hall is open from May-October.

Came on indigenous people's day and was a great experience. The tour guide was very informative and got us in right before they closed. Recommend this to all who enjoy learning and being immersed in colonial, indigenous, and local New York history.

I stopped by to visit Sir William Johnson. Unfortunately, he was not home. His house was clean and the yard was mowed. Very nice scenery and a nice quiet park. Unfortunately, I learned on the statue that Sir Bill passed away. So, I was about 250 years too late. Good time though.

Beautiful and unique house/fortifications. Johnson was a baron (above the rank of knight) and had a charter signed to him from King George. He built his fortified blockhouse first, followed by the house. The house is beautiful and in the process of being restored. The site was actually closed when we were there (after Columbus Day) but an employee who happened to be working on the site showed us around along with great historical information. Beautiful spot to learn about the history of the place and see a unique home with fortified blockhouses protecting it.

Just a great historical building to experience. It's great how the people volunteer to dress up for the period of time to share stories of how it used to be.

Really great early New York history-
This was where the Iroquois would bring their furs to sell to the first English baron-
Joseph Brant was there- the baron
married Joseph’s sister Molly
Where you get to walk right where history happened!
Wonderful docent- really passionate tour!

When it is closed, with no people around, it is very peaceful. I love it there

Like going here even when it's closed, as one can walk the grounds. Beautiful home, very well restored. Tours very interesting. If one drives around to where the back of the estate would have been in 1760, you can see where the last battle of the Revolutionary War, in New York State, was fought.

A great place to visit with kids or adults! We went on a Sunday and lots of people on the grounds just having fun. We picnicked there and then took the Sunday tour. Building inside and out is stunning, and the tour is well done. It was a great place to cool off in and had lots of interesting stories and connections to the greater community. An overall great and cheap outing. Would definitely go again and support!

Fantastic site! I had a great time, it was like stepping into a Jane Austin book. I can't wait to see what the next set of projects turn up here as they are still working on a large portion of the building but even so it's a beautiful building and the people are so friendly and clearly love their site and it's history. Sitting right next to the lake it's a great stop for a summer day for the whole family.

Drove past on the way to somewhere else, caught my eye. On the way back I pulled over and checked it out. I must admit the architecture is pretty amazing, it's places like you drive by, catches your periphery and say one day I want to stop and check it out. I did, but not enough, would have wanted to see inside.

I love taking my dogs here. It's always so quiet. One of the guys who mows and takes care of the property is super nice too! I didn't catch his name when we talked but he's awesome and does a great job. I will always go here.
