Great Doctor. He has that rare combination of extremely high intelligence and some good horse sense. Compassionate, caring and understanding.

Dr. Pendley is not compassionate at all. My mother has COPD and lung cancer. I tried to get her a prescription for an oxygen-concentrator a YEAR ago, she asked for it while in his office, and he said she didn't need it. My 83 yr old mom is not getting chemo or radiation and I totally respect that. Supplemental oxygen from an oxygen-concentrator is not a cure. The device does not require oxygen canisters because it concentrates the oxygen from the surrounding air. It will only help make her feel better. Her o2 level drops to 91% at night and she has all the symptoms associated with that - headaches, shortness of breath, coughing, fatigue, difficulty sleeping. She is not treating the cancer so she will get progressively worse. If a person can have a reduction in symptoms by increasing their o2 level then why be the roadblock to allowing the patient to see if an oxygen-concentator will make them feel better? My mother told me a few days ago that she thought she would go on HOSPICE soon. She must really be feeling bad to be thinking this, which is why I want to get her something to help. I told Dr. Pendley's office that I had ALREADY PAID for an oxygen-concentrator device and just needed a prescription so they would ship it. He told my mother he couldn't write the prescription to allow the device I purchased to be shipped because medicare requires that she has an o2 level of 88% or less for a certain period of time while she is in his office. I am NOT seeking coverage through Medicare! He knows this but still wants my mom to be on death's door before writing a prescription. What an awful doctor!!! There are websites that say you should go to the emergency room if your o2 level is at 88% or lower.
Do NOT go to Dr. Pendley for any lung disease. He is ABSOLUTELY lying about whether he CAN write the prescription. I know this because the oxygen-concentrator company has several doctors they work with who will simply interview a patient over the phone and write the prescription to enable them to purchase or even rent an oxygen-concentrator. Frankly I think the requirement for a prescription is just used to create an opportunity to charge a person to have access to the device. But don't fall for the excuse that you can't get a prescription unless approved through Medicare. Patients and family members DESERVE the right to decide if they want to pay out of pocket for a device to get relief sooner. Many of the devices are not that expensive even if they are big and bulky things that plug into the wall and are rented. People may only need more oxygen at night initially and those machines work for that. These companies that sell the devices will help you get a prescription if you are unlucky enough to have a doctor like Dr. Pendley who claims he CAN'T write a prescription for you. It should be perfectly acceptable for a doctor to have a patient sign a form stating the prescription can enable a device to be purchased or rented but may not qualify for coverage through Medicare.
