Delicious Original Creative Japanese Cuisine! The food and service was amazing. The only unfortunate was that all seating is at a counter with stools. There is one table for 4. We enjoyed the starters. All reminders of the authentic country Japanese tsukemonos. Tasteful and beautiful starters. We loved the original uni on a bed of dried squid ink cracker. Wow! I wish it were a bigger bite! The tekemaki’s were literally handheld sized. We loved the sweetness of the scallops and spicyness of the tuna. But truly, the epic ending of the original dessert of ice cream, laced with squid ink ( I think) and a miso carmel sauce. Wow!!

Why did I do this to myself? Expensive but so worth it. I can't afford these kinds of habits! Glad I don't live here now. Suffice to say everything was excellent. I got there early in their dining service, having waited it out perusing Oak St. Kept the party going with a really good unfiltered/cloudy sake. The miso, while disappointing for me being tofu less, more than made up for it with a broth of vigor that would make IC Michiba proud. Talking to the chef towards the end of my meal, he explained to me that they use all the parts of the fish they buy, and it showed. I haven't had uni or ikura too often, but the quality and flavor was obvious. It wasn't salty, smooth texture and the roe had a pleasant bite. Both the bluefin sashimi and the spicy tuna hr were the best tuna I've ever had. Fatty, slightly sweet and of course well prepared. Single best sushi meal I've had since Morimoto's in Philly several years ago. Extra points for the head chef to share her knowledge, train her staff and give them the ability to perform like that without being in town.

Hip, small, Single table + sushi bar spot uptown with a great drink menu and fantastic hand rolls. Been a few times now, the food is consistently delicious and the service is friendly. Highly recommend for a date spot or dinner with friends. Get the pickles!!!!

A lovely take on Japanese favorites. Everything served is of the highest quality and sourced with great care. The sunomono was both wonderfully flavored and beautifully presented. But my hands down favorite on this (my first) visit was the side of rice with ikura. The ikura was on the saltier side, as I prefer, and was so rich in umami as to remind me of Parmesan cheese and high quality fish sauce. Thanks chef Jackie!

UPDATE! I went back to Sukeban for a second time and it still was absolutely delicious. Worth every penny for the freshest seafood in the city and a true upscale Izakaya experience. And the service was top notch!!!

Sukeban is a true gem in New Orleans and is not your run of the mill sushi place! It’s the Michelin star of Japanese dining in NOLA with the freshest, high quality seafood you can find in the city! I can’t recommend this place enough if you want amazing Temaki and great service by the amazing staff! If you are looking for $5 california rolls … this ain’t the place!

Amazing service highlighted by delicious ingredients carefully prepared. Specializes in temaki, uncut hand rolls. Lots of great vegan options - shitake temaki had a crazy savory shiso paste. Fish is world class. Menu also had an incredible chawanmushi egg custard with crawfish, mushrooms and salmon roe.

If you want elevated home-style Japanese food, you're in for a treat!

I just went to Sukeban for the first time. It's tiny with limited seating, but that's part of the charm. Everyone that was working knew their stuff and was super chill. Expensive? A bit, but you pay for quality and my fiancee was over the moon. If we're ever back in town this is our first destination.

I had an amazing time at Sukeban! They had an awesome selection of sashimi that evening and tried all of 3...scallop, king salmon and tuna. I tried a handful of temaki my favorites being the shiitake (don't sleep on this one), lobster and the uni and ikura. Also don't miss out on the rice bowls! You can get any sashimi or add on's on top of their amazing rice. I ordered a rice bowl with uni and Osetra caviar and it was out of this world. Chef Jackie and her crew were hospitable and created a fun atmosphere! I already started a list of items I want to eat again and new items to try when I come back to Sukeban!

Bar Sukeban is my favorite restaurant in New Orleans! And that is saying a lot in a city full of excellent culinary experiences. Fantastically fresh food, friendly atmosphere and the best service.

A wonderful experience and summed up in one word, “fresh”. The potato salad, cabbage salad, blue fin sashimi, hand rolls, saké, and dessert were all top notch. Incredible flavors in everything we tried. Thank You for the delights, we’ll be back.

This place is absolutely phenomenal. Great atmosphere, attentive staff, exceptional food, and an excellent drink selection. This is just what Oak Street needed!!! I have been to many Japanese food restaurants all over US and overseas. I highly recommend it. The salmon sashimi w/ ikura was out of this world. We will be back

When it comes to delightful, fresh, airy, and informed food… Bar Sukeban is a smash! Every single dish we had was a success and The sake program rips. We were swoony and loony in this place and Jackie Blanchard is a force. 10/10 will be back infinity times

Sukeban was exactly what I was looking for! I’m so tired of BS “sushi” in this city and this was the real deal. Suuuuper fresh and incredibly delicious. While I always gravitate towards tuna (the only pic I took) I was blown away by their zucchini and avocado hand roll and the crab one too. 10/10 would come again.

Fantastic spot. Great sushi, sashimi, and caviar selection. Good spread of sake as well.

A little pricy at first glance but I don't have a good read on what a place like this should cost in the first place.

Definitely a good date spot, can easily go next door before and/or after to Oak.

Cannot say enough good things about this first experience, nostalgic from my time in Japan— with the clean aesthetic, fresh uni, and fantastic service. A joy, and hidden gem on Oak Street.

My husband and I love Sukeban…we have been there many times with our friends and love to take our out of town guests there for the food and experience. The service and quality of the food is appropriate for the prices they charge.

They by far have the “best sushi”in town my very favorite is the blue crab roll…it is delicious!
