Thurmond Eye Associates

This was my first experience at the office of Thurmond Eye Associates in Mission. Admittedly, I was a little apprehensive having read the Google reviews. I do know enough, however, how to read into "negative" personalities. My entire visit was met with very friendly and professional office staff and assistants. It was just perfect. I'm a patient of Dr. Vann's, who no one could possibly say anything negative, and his merger with Thurmond is looking like a win-win.

Dr. Johnson is hands down the best! After doing research and finding out that she is one of the few pediatric ophthalmology specialists in the valley, I expected our visit to feel rushed...I felt at ease when she took her time to thoroughly examine my 6 month old, and explain the diagnosis. She did not rush at all and even took the time to give me scholarly resources to look into at home. I did not leave her office with any doubts or confusion. She explained everything very well and even performed the exam again with my son facing me so that I could see what she was seeing. She and her staff were so patient and kind with my son as they are with the next child. Excellent service, and it is evident that she is truly passionate about her career.

I received glasses that seem like they are defective. I took them to glasses department and the lady in charge there was ,kind,caring, and very attentive.She took care of it in a couple of seconds. She fixed it. Appreciate all the help. Thank you for your kindness.

I couldn't be happier with Dr Johnson! Ever since the first time my son met her, he was glad he didn't feel scared when she told him he needed drops in his eyes. It's been 3 times that I see her and i gladly travel 8-10 hrs for my son's appointment.

I love it!! My 1yr old has cross eyes and she prescribe my son with new lens because the ones he had before from an other eye doctor were wrong! And now my baby see better!

The staff is very nice and the place in Edinburg is very tidy . Doctor Cavazos was great at my visit today

Dr. Johnson made my daughter very comfortable and made our visit enjoyable.

Front office staff was nice, but Doctors and techs were awful! I got my eyes dilated to get the doctor exam, and after waiting in the freezing dark waiting room for an hour, and hearing a lot of chatter and laughter from the staff, I realized no patients were being seen, and it was almost 5pm, closing time. I walked to find someone to ask if we'll be seen before closing time and found the doctor and techs lounging in one of the exam rooms, just chatting away. When they saw me they scurried to look busy and scattered...but it was still another 10 minutes before the next patient was called for exam! I waited another 20 minutes, and they just kept telling me "you're next", with no time estimate or explanation. I cannot deal with the disrespect these people have for their patients and our time. I asked for a refund and left. Horrible service, don't even bother going there!!!

Thurmond Eye has a real problem with scheduling appointments. We had a 230 appointment and 55 minutes later still not keeping up with the scheduling. Why should we confirm an appointment knowing that your appointment time will never be matched?
We WOULD NOT recommend Thurmond Eye.

Very disappointed in quality of replacement lenses sold there at Thurmond Eye
Purchased replacement lenses for my 2 Oakley’s that had prescriptions ,one lense started to crack and break after 15 months of use and warranty had expired and Thurmond eye said basically too bad.
Will never purchase anything at Thurmond eye and associates. Paid top dollar for poor quality never again

THE ABSOLUTE WORST!!! If I could leave negative stars I would!
My glasses broke and I cannot see without them. I call to see if I can be seen sooner and they said no there are no cancelations. I mentioned I cannot work nor drive I can’t see at all without my glasses. I was told there’s nothing they could do they can’t sell me new glasses because my prescription with them is not valid anymore. I was told the only thing I can do is go somewhere else where they take walk in’s because there was nothing they could do for me! Granted I am not a new patient they WERE my normal doctor. No empathy no customer service this was an emergency I can’t see without glasses and they could do nothing for me just tell me to go somewhere else! AVOID THEM AT ALL COST THEY WILL NOT HELP WHEN THERE IS AN EMERGENCY WHEN YOU REALLY NEED THEM!

Just go somewhere else. Doctors care on protocols not people. Staff is inconsiderate. Their system is always down. Waiting times are horrendous.
Just a nightmare all around.
To my special needs population; stay away. They will not accomodate a single thing

Very poor follow up customer service. I called twice to ask doctor to prescribe me an alternate medication 2 days after seeing doctor and they never got back to me.

Some of the Nurses here can be very mean and not so caring..specifically just the front. Nurses in the back were definitely wonderful and did a great job! The front office girls are supposed to be the faces of the office and need to be more welcoming and courteous. If it werent for the caring nurses in the back and Dr.Hook we definitely would not be coming here at all. Please make sure the girls in the front actually care about the patients and show more compassion towards everyone. That would be the only complaint i would have about the office. Other than that 5 stars for the back nurses and Dr Hook.

If there was an option to give zero stars I would. Arrived 15-20 mins late, after i called to notify we were running late and was given the ok, got to the clinic ad the appointment was cancelled by Dr Cristina Johnson. There were zero patients in the lobby and she refused to see my son stating that she had to leave. This office should give advance notice to their patients of the cancellation policy and be more considerate of travel time since there is massive construction and traffic on the way to their location. Whoever the owner is, please look into who you have working in your clinics

The office is staff is very rude and give you so much attitude that’s just not needed
