Jay is an awesome instructor. I, unfortunately, had let my CCH permit expire and had to retake the class. I was dreading the long, 8 hour class but Jay made it fun and interesting and engaging the whole time. I will definitely be signing-up for some of their other trainings soon.

The conceal carry class was great! I went with my 21 y/o sister and her friend (all three of us lacked extensive firearm training-- we have only fired handguns a handful of times), and the staff was very patient and helpful during the shooting portion. Jay led a great class. It was very long (through no fault of their own), but it was so informative and I truly feel like I learned valuable information. Jay also kept it upbeat and fun, so it was not dry. They were very flexible in the face of an unexpected event, so kudos to them!!! Safety was clearly prioritized at the range. Highly recommend this course!

Jay is an excellent instructor. He made the 8 hour conceal and carry class fun, and seemed extremely knowledgeable about everything he was saying. He told us the legal terminology as well as giving good examples/scenarios that further explained each lesson. I learned more in the 8 hours I spent in the class than I have in a long time! I look forward to taking more classes with Jay.

I recently took Jay's Concealed Carry Class, and I can't recommend it enough! His class was thorough, informative, and very interesting. Jay is a great instructor for anyone looking to learn the essentials of responsible gun ownership and operation.

In class we spent a large portion on the legal aspects of concealed carry. Jay made sure that all students understood North Carolina's specific laws and regulations regarding concealed carry permits. His lessons on the legal responsibilities of a gun owner were clear and detailed, making complex legal content easy to grasp. Not to mention, he answered any and all questions (even if not very applicable to the class) with great explanations.

Additionally, after completing the shooting portion of our certification, Jay allowed me to stay late to try out a gun from his personal collection. Jay's generosity and knowledge made the LONG experience very enjoyable. I highly recommend his course to anyone looking to get their concealed carry permit. I will definitely be taking my friends and family back to Jay.

I couldn’t recommend the CCH class enough! Jay was super informative, patient, and made everyone in class feel welcome. He gave great scenarios and his well rounded approach to the class was incredible. He also spoke from multiple standpoints, which I found to be very informative. Could not speak any more highly of the instructor, Jay, who made this class great. I feel empowered and very informed about my right to carry because of Jay. As someone who has a background with guns, I was able to still learn a lot from him. Even if you know very little about guns, he will make you feel welcome and you will be more confident and feel safer handling a firearm. Despite other’s comments about the USCCA pitch, I found the perspective important to hear at least once and you can always decline the insurance if you’re not interested. Jay is an AMAZING teacher!

We took the concealed carry class today with Jay… he was an excellent instructor, made everyone feel comfortable, and very knowledgeable. Once we were on the ran Jay was assisted by Eric who was also excellent. Overall great experience, we will definitely go to CFT again for any firearm training.

My friends and I took our concealed carry class here, and it was an awesome experience. Our instructors, Andrew and Jay, did an amazing job instructing the class/training portion while keeping us engaged. These guys were very informative and did an excellent job answering everyone’s questions. I highly recommend Carolina Firearms Training!

I took the concealed carry class this past Friday with Jay. He was an excellent instructor, made everyone feel comfortable with asking questions and very knowledgeable. The class was well organized as the 8 hours seemed to go by fast. We had a breakout session with Clayton from the USCCA which was very useful and was an important conversation to have when learning about Concealed Carry and the training and protection that the organization offers. Once we were at the range the shooting test was safe and insightful. Overall great experience, I will definitely return to CFT and Jay again for any firearms and defensive handgun training.

Recently took my first CCH course. Jay was a solid instructor and very knowledgeable and could answer just about any question. Anything from scenario based questions to general firearm questions. 8hrs is lengthy for the classroom portion but there’s no getting around State requirements. At the end of the day you will learn something regardless of your experience level with firearms. Other notes for this course: Even if you’ve never shot before you will pass the range qualification requirement. The RSOs killed it definitely good at making sure the range was safe and nobody would have any accidents or NDs etc. In summary I would recommend this course.

Was in with classmates with a wide range of experience and Jay did a great job keeping all of us engaged. A lot of hands-on time. Jay ensures he is keeping you practicing in correct form. I'll be back for their other classes and individualized coaching to ensure proper technique and safety becomes second nature.

Took my kids for their second safety course with Carolina Firearms Training. The kids had a great time, and learned so much. All of the instructors are extremely professional and friendly. They clearly practice all of the safety that they teach. We will be sure to continue our education with them in the future.

Great concealed carry class! Jay did a great job going through all the legalities of concealed carrying and the rest of the state required topics. The range was clean and well maintained, and range time was well organized. Highly recommend!!

I drove about an hour from home to attend a concealed carry course with Jay and I am glad I did. I never found myself getting bored during the course work and loved the fact that the range was outside. RSOs were very professional, overall excellent experience, will look for other courses in the future.

This was an excellent CCP course. The instructions covered everything I needed to know to easily pass the examination. Moreover, Instructor Calentine made the class interesting and fun, as opposed to trudging through hours of a boring class. Instructor Calentine's handgun knowledge is far more expansive than just the material needed for concealed carry instruction. He is very experienced and has outstanding firearms and self-defense credentials. I feel sure that other instructors are also impressive

Additionally, the two range-masters ensured the the actual live fire was conducted safely. They were also very experienced and knowledgeable.

I highly recommend Carolina Firearms Training to qualify for a concealed carry permit. I am planning on returning to take the Defensive Pistol Curse 1. Also, I believe that my wife will be taking the Women's Only Beginner Defensive Pistol course..

Zac Camerons review hits the nail on the head. I couldn't have said it better. I'll add a personal note though. My wife and I took the course together. My wife isn't as experienced with firearms and was nervous. Jay allowed us to shoot last and do some dry fire practice in preparation. During the shooting portion, Jay boosted her confidence by giving live fire guidance. He won't punch holes in the paper for you, but he'll do everything in his power to make sure you succeed. I look forward to taking future classes with him.

Personally, I'm glad I let my conceal carry permit lapse and got to go through this course. Not only did I learn new things, but got to experience a far better course than the previous one I sat through. No way around the mandated 8 hours, but he makes it enjoyable and informative.

Old habits die hard!
Had a one on one pistol training session with Jay Calendine to brush up on skills and techniques. The session was going great until the last half hour. My old habit of trying to control the recoil crept in and my accuracy went south. He didn’t want me to leave until I broke my old habit. Jay introduced techniques to break it and stayed beyond the allotted time. He also provided his own ammo as I had run out. Jay obviously cares more about helping others improve than money and time. Highly recommend! Thanks for having my 6 Jay!

Jay Calendine is very professional and thorough. He is able to analyze each students different skill and get on your level to help everyone.
The range was clean and had multiple lanes with paper and metal targets. I can’t wait to attend further training as time permits.

The conceal carry class was a 10/10 experience. The instructor was patient, knowledgeable, and experienced. I went in as a beginner and was not intimidated or overwhelmed.

I highly recommend taking this class! It will teach you so much about gun laws, safety and the importance of having this permit! Instructor Jay was amazing, very knowledgable and patient. Any questions you ask, he will answer. If you don't know how to use a gun, he will take his time and show you. Class was a 10/10!

Absolutely amazing experience. I took the CCH class with them for the first time as I am a new gun owner. Was welcomed with coffee & donuts. Jay was super passionate, friendly and knowledgeable. He was able to give examples of his real-life experiences but prefaced things with “I’m not a lawyer so I can’t give legal advice” 😂 The class was informative & Jay did a great job explaining the legality of NC State & Federal laws regarding what is and is not legal. There was an intermission in which a representative for the USCCA took over the class for about 45 minutes to explain what a membership with them looks like. I can see that many people aren’t happy about that, but for me it was very helpful & I appreciate the fact that opportunity was presented to me during the CCH class. After the test, which was very easy thanks to Jays explanations throughout the slides, we all headed 25 minutes out to Carthage to the range to finish up. The range was nice and neat, straight to the point. A simple 3/5/7 30 rounds. This was my first time handling a hand gun & I felt comfortable with the instructions given by the range officer & any advice learned in class and was able to get all 30 rounds on target. I had an absolutely fantastic time here & will definitely be back for basic pistol classes and more advanced trainings in the future.

Instructor Jay was absolutely phenomenal! I went with two other girls and we all agreed that we would recommend this class and instructor Jay to our friends! We only had 6 people in our class so it was very hands-on!!
