Incredible food and service from Bao Bei and Kevin. They lived up to and exceeded my expectations. I could have eaten 3+ of the Baos, they are that good. The pork bowl is such a great mix of flavors with the rice complimenting each, and would highly recommend as well. The pumpkin cinnabaos were the perfect finish. A unique twist on the traditional cinnamon roll and as big as they are I don’t think you would want to share. Seems hard to go wrong with your order here. Their success is no surprise and can’t wait for their restaurant to open in the near future!

My friend and I tried here for the first time. I got the Bao Bei bao and she got the Bao Bei bowl. Both were super good and had great flavor. The bun was so fluffy and soft, and the pork belly was so delicious. We are definitely going to come back and try more!

We stumble upon this kitchen out of pure luck and honestly it’s by far one of the best places we have tried since returning from Asia. The food is so delicious and is served warm. The portions were great and the flavor was 100% there.

I visited Bao Bei after being recommended by a friend to try the food out, and it didn’t disappoint.

I got the signature Bao Bei Bao, filled with pork belly and topped with pickled veggies, cilantro, and sweet peanut. The bao was soft and fluffy. Biting into the pork belly, you’re hit with a lot of flavor and juice. The size is about the same as a small burger, but it’s filling enough to feed one person. I would say it’s in between a snack and a full lunch. If you’re starving, I’d recommend ordering two.

I also ordered the Toasted Sesame and Scallion Bread. The employee that took our order recommended it, especially since it was only available to order on Sundays. Since I didn’t know the next time I would visit on a Sunday, I decided to give it a shot. The outside is covered in sesame seeds and incredibly crispy. When you bite into it, the soft inside is layered with scallions. I liked it, but I do wish I could have tasted or smelled the scallion flavor a bit more. The order did come with three pieces, which was nice. It provided a nice contrast to the Bao Bei Bao.

Bao Bei is located in a center with other businesses. It’s not a traditional food restaurant, acting as a shared kitchen with other shops. When you pull into the plaza, you’ll have to go around the back and keep an eye out for the signs on the door. There’s no prominent signage that points out the location, so it might be tricky to find at first.

You can only go in through a set of stairs, and be aware that there is no definitive seating provided. We saw a lot of people coming in to pick up orders instead of placing them there. There are two seats inside, but I wouldn’t encourage anyone to eat there. There is plenty of parking spots if you wanted to stand outside and eat, which is what I did.

You ring a bell to have an employee take your order. The menu is small, but that personally made it easier for me to order. They did recommend the Brown Sugar Swirly Buns, but I decided not to try it today. The wait for the food was about 10 minutes, and the order and check-out process was quick.

If you’re looking for a place to sit down and eat, this wouldn’t be the place for you. I rated the atmosphere lower because this isn’t meant to be an aesthetic location. While the employees are friendly and offer plenty of help, the focus of Bao Bei is clearly on the quality of the food, and it shows.

Tried this place for the first time and like most others have mentioned, this is a ghost kitchen. The location wasn't hard to find and food was ready and packaged for me to pick up as soon as I got there.

I ordered the Bao Bei Bao, Brown Sugar Swirly Buns, Tofu-Riffic Bao, and Bao Bei Bowl. One Bao is big enough to fill you up. It's stuffed with meat and taste delicious. I highly recommend 3 of the 4 items I tried. Both Baos were great and I really loved the swirly buns. It's the perfect hint of sweetness and very filling. I wasn't a fan of the Bao Bei Bowl - not because it didn't taste good but I'm not much of a savory person and I was expecting savory mixed with sweetness. The bowl is filled to the top and in my opinion big enough for two people to share.

I will be coming back for more baos in the future!

Got delivery, absolutely amazing. Pork bun is delicious and super tender. Shrimp/pork bun is delectable. Cucumber salad is great, though if you get it "hot" it's definitely hot 🥵. Definitely on the reorder list next time I'm in town!

Warning - don't be scare of the location because wonderful adventures await for your taste buds! I was skeptical of the direction "... back of a warehouse for good food." One bite into the Bao Bei Bao (or Gao boa) with three 0.5" thick pork belly pieces and you will realize a 45 minutes drive is worth it. Also try the delicious Cucumber & Wood Ear Salad - refreshing!

Food is amazingly good. It is located behind the Nebel Street warehouses, so it was not hard for me to find the shop.

Staff is friendly. There is no dine in. I ordered all the classic Taiwanese items. Bao and Bao Bei Bowl are definitely the best in the DMV region. Portion side is big. The amount of the Bao Bei Bowl is more than twice you get if similar item is order in other Taiwanese restaurants. Not as good as mom's but I will say that is also an impossible task.

Food is amazingly good. It is located behind the woodwork shop that I know, so it was not hard for me to find the shop. A little hesitation before I enter, but the rest are all good. Staff is friendly. There is no dine in. I ordered all three items. Bao and Bao Bei Bowl are definitely the best in the DMV region. Portion side is big. The amount of the Bao Bei Bowl is more than twice you get if similar item is order in other Taiwanese restaurants. So the price tag is reasonable.

We did take out a couple of times from Bao Bei. Everything we tried so far is delicious. Our favorite is the mushroom salad. Service was prompt and they draw cartoons on your takeout bags which I really like. Finding the restaurant entrance is a bit tricky. It’s located at the back of the building.

Everything I hoped for and more! I was so excited to try this place. I patiently waited for reservations to open up for my husband’s birthday, and booked immediately. The restaurant is small and intimate. The wait staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They had a wide variety of cocktails- both alcoholic and non. The paw paw tea NA cocktail was my favorite.

As for the food, some of the best Asian food I’ve had outside of Asia itself. Flavorful and fresh. Good portion sizes, and nice presentation. I highly recommend the pork boa buns and crispy tofu. Everything we ordered was delicious.

Next time I’m in Vancouver, I will definitely return!

What can I say that hasn't already been said in other reviews?! I went to pickup from Bao Bei two days in a row! First visit was for the pork belly baos. They were delish. Loved the flavor and tender pork belly with the fluffy bao. I did order them fully constructed. Next visit, I think I'll order them deconstructed so those that are obsessed with the pickled mustard greens can add extra to theirs!

Second visit was full of swirly buns and sesame buns! So good when they're warm. Loved the softness of the swirly buns. I didn't use the sweetened condensed milk cause they tasted great even without it. The sesame buns were so fully of scallions and had the right touch of seasoning. These freeze great and re-heat in the air fryer very well!

Will be ordering again soon cause I need more of the sesame buns!

The best Taiwanese street food restaurant a must try! 10 out of 10!

I recently discovered Bao Bei Taiwanese restaurant in Rockville, Maryland, while searching for Asian buns online for holiday parties. The experience was exceptional, thanks to the owner, Kevin. His assistance in the booking process and entertaining Instagram videos on enjoying buns with Suraci hot sauce added a personal touch.

The variety of buns I tried were outstanding - Bao Bei Bao, Brown Sugar Swirly Run, and Tofu-Rrific Ran. Each bun boasted authentic, rich flavors and an incredibly fluffy texture. My favorites are the Tofu-Rrific Ran & the traditional pork bao.

The buns truly come to life with their exquisite garnishes - the subtly sweet crushed peanuts, and the fragrant cilantro - each adding unique flavors, making each bite a delicious experience. Equally impressive is the tofu variant, matching the traditional pork bao in both taste and satisfaction.

Bao Bei Taiwanese is a hidden gem I found thanks to other Google reviews, and it's a 10 out of 10 for me. This restaurant is definitely worth a try, and I'm eagerly looking forward to my next visit for more of these delicious buns!

After seeing them featured on Food Network's "The Great Food Truck Race" recently, we had to check them out. OMG. We were blown way! The Bao Bei Bao is superb! Loved the Cucumber Wood Ear Salad, too. I'm a new loyal customer, fer sure!

I highly recommend Bao Bei! Absolutely delicious Taiwanese street food in Rockville. Love the incredible flavor and texture of their buns. 😋 I ordered Tofu-rrific Bao, Toasted Sesame & Scallion Breads, and Brown Sugar Swirly Buns. Enjoyed them all so much that I ordered again in less than a week! Meals were packaged well and included a surprise gift. Wonderful service from Kevin. Looking forward to savoring another bun from here soon!

Wow, pictures do not do the food justice, especially the Bao Bei Bao which was amazingly fluffy and flavorful while just melting in my mouth. It's so evident how much care the owner puts in each and every dish. Plus I received a complimentary salad which was a pleasant surprise. Definitely will be coming back!

It should be noted this is a Ghost Kitchen and Kevin who runs it came out to greet us, since it's a little tricky to figure out location wise. He was very friendly and truly confident we'd love the pork Buns, and he was rightfully so. They are delicious!!! 🤤😝 mouthwatering, savory, and exactly as a pork bun should be. It is clearly made with love.

I recently came back from a trip to Taiwan, and Bao Bei is the only place in the area that comes close to a traditional Gua Bao, my favorite Taiwanese food!! (^O^)I missed the beautiful fatty pork, pickled vegetables, peanuts, and cilantro, all wrapped in a fluffy soft bun. The braised pork rice was also super yummy, and we loved the black sugar buns! The condensed milk was a creative touch. In all, we loved Bao Bei and will definitely be back for more!! It would also be nice if there were a reminder (maybe one hour beforehand?) to pick up your order. Almost forgot about mine lol

Ordered online. Walked into the place and my food was ready and on a rack with the sign I added. My parents loved the tofu bei. Food was so fresh and delicious. Looking forward to eating again.

Amazing Gua Bao - A Must-Try Delight!

I recently ate at Bao Bei, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience! The moment you take your first bite, you’re hit with a perfect blend of flavors and textures that just melt in your mouth. The bao is soft, pillowy, and has the perfect balance of chewiness, while the filling is bursting with flavor—tender, juicy, and seasoned to perfection.

The pork belly bao was a standout, with the meat cooked to perfection—crispy on the outside, yet succulent and tender on the inside. The pickled vegetables added a delightful tang that cuts through the richness, making each bite perfectly balanced. Their sauces are a revelation, elevating the already amazing bao to another level.

What I also loved is the attention to detail in every aspect. From the freshness of the ingredients to the presentation, everything was top-notch. The ambiance of the place adds to the experience, making it a perfect spot to enjoy a quick and incredibly satisfying meal.

If you’re a fan of Gua Bao or even if you’re trying it for the first time, this place is an absolute must-visit. The quality and taste of the food will leave you craving more. Highly recommended!
