I went for my first visit here today and my experience overall was top notch. I was seen by Nancy (NP) only so I can only speak to my own experience. I was concerned about the reviews before I went, but noticed almost all dermatologists in the area have 3 stars or so I went for it. First, the facility is very nice, clean and inviting compared to other offices I've been to. Nancy is awesome, great personality, super knowledgeable and friendly. I had a great conversation with her and she taught me a lot. All of the nurses and reception staff were very nice, unlike what I read here in some of the other reviews. I was in and out in about an hour and 15 which is very reasonable in my opinion. I've been to a few dermatologists and this was by far the best experience I have had. Glad to have locked in a go to doctor in the area.

I’ve been coming here for about 6 years and I will continue to come while Nancy runs the practice. I just came to get the phone number to make an appointment and saw some reviews. I was surprised by the bad ones about the receptionists, I never had any issues with them. I can be salty myself and have had issues at other places, but never here. The staff are great. I had an issue once where I think Dr.Spiro mis-diagnosed me and Nancy seemed to disagree. The next time I went Nancy had replaced Dr.Spiro and gave me something that worked right away. I have great faith in her.

I see Nancy (Nurse Practitioner) here and she was the absolute best dermatologist I've seen. I have psoriasis and she was very thorough and taught me things I didn't know about it (I've had it for over a decade- you'd think my previous doctors would have mentioned those things, but they didnt). I was also offered OTC samples for ointments that may or may not help- which was great because that way I wouldnt have to buy a bunch of ointments to figure out what works best! I highly recommend Nancy! (I haven't seen Dr. Spiro)

I'll give this place a five star ratings all day long! I went in today for my first time appointment and everyone was nice and friendly from beginning to end! I will recommend this place! This is definitely a professional setting!

I don't know why this place doesn't have better reviews. I've seen Nancy, NP twice and she is wonderful, very easy to talk to and thorough. Nurses are very friendly too.

Went in for a prescription of finasteride. Was treated very well by the nurse and Dr.Spiro. Was in and out no problem. Will definately re-visit if I ever need to.

Great Doctor very knowledgeable..Great experience.

Ok, here is the real deal with this place...
Nancy is awesome, she knows her stuff in and out!! The nurses are also great, I'm bummed that I don't remember the name of the very friendly and knowledgable nurse that I first saw before Nancy came in.
But like alot of the other reviews mentioned, the receptionist are hit or miss! I did see some eye rolling and had a few comments made toward me... had me contemplating jumping over counter and choke slamming them! But I was in a position where I NEEDED to see Nancy and get diagnosed. So I just bit my tongue and figured they were having a rough day due to the full waiting room of peoplesome an hour past their appointment time.
As for Spiro himself, never seen him in the office....but I've worked in at some bistros and wine bars he frequents! He likes his Vino, and is the head of a high end wine society that likes to have fancy dinner and drink, drink, drink! Just food for thought about some of the comments made about his practice.

Nancy and the Nurses are GREAT!!

The doctors and nurses here are wonderful and helpful but I have never, ever in my life encountered such rude receptionists. Being a lead receptionist for a decade myself I understand that customers can be frustrating, but I have always been extremely polite when going into a place of business. I was five minutes late at my appointment today (I did call to let them know) and at checkout had two receptionists rolling their eyes at me and muttering /whispering while I spoke to the nurse. The particular treatment I am having requires certain policies to be followed and regular blood draws, and I was confused about it, they proceeded to make nasty remarks and behave very rudely towards me. I cannot even believe a place of business could have receptionists that behave in this manner outwardly right in front of a client. It makes the kindness and professionalism of the doctors and nurses almost not worth it.

I had a terrible experience here, and paid $60 for an incorrect diagnosis. Look elsewhere.

Edit 02/07/19: I realize I was vague because I didn't want to share my diagnosis, but I'd rather people know the truth, so I will. I had severe ingrown hairs and was told they were flea bites. I knew they weren't. I paid for this incorrect diagnosis, then paid to have my cats checked for fleas, I sent Joel Spiro's office the paperwork from the vet indicating they did not have fleas (I'm sure they didn't care or read my I told you so letter), and then I went to Upstate Dermatology in Clifton Park who was able to give me the correct diagnosis and medication.

On top of that. Joel Spiro checked me for skin cancer and had me take my pants off. In an extremely tiny, claustrophobic room. Admittedly, a nurse was in there as well, but it was still very uncomfortable. I later found out a male family member of mine also went there, and was also checked for skin cancer, but oh lo and behold, he was not told to remove his pants.

My experience here was years ago now but I still think about it once awhile and hate to think people are going here. Upstate Dermatology was great and I highly recommend them.

I called in for acene medication a week prior to running out of my script. Since they had not seen me in two years they would not refill the script without seeing me in person. They were scheduling two and a half months out for apts and would not tid me over with my gel even if I made an apt. Horrible customer service. This is just acene medication, not a controlled substance. I've been going to them since I was in me teens and won't anymore. Horrible to leave a customer hanging over something that insignificant, but a big deal to them. Acene can get very bad in a matter of a week and they wouldn't do anything for over two months! Unheard of!

Very unprofessional never asked me if I wanted treatment just proceeded to increase payment

This guy performed a skin cancer excision on my 90 year old grandmothers lip without any sort of numbing agent. It was incredibly painful for her and it healed super weird. Her lip is pulled up much higher on the side where he cut it out.

Called to get a refill on a script and was berated by a rude receptionist who was angry that I was asking questions since I hadn't been seen in some time. She then told me to come in to sign a release to get my information. I was then given part of my file, although I requested the complete file, without the receptionist even asking for/looking at my identification!

Hello .. I just want to know the working hours. Also, if it possible to get an appointment as soon as possible for the 1st time ir I need to get an appointment within 4 months as other clinics

Horrible experience when trying to setup an appointment, "The Doctor is to busy to see you anytime soon." wow
