Back Country Safari Horse Tours

I booked this tour for my mom and I to do while she was here on vacation. I was considering a couple of companies since it's late in the year, but Back Country Safari tours is open year-round, and it was easy to use their online reservations to access all the info about availability.
We showed up 25 minutes ahead of our time and had plenty of time to get signed in for the trip. Gary was our guide for the day, and he was knowledgeable, funny, and kept us entertained with his experiences while helping us find probably 20+ different horses. All in all, we had a great experience, which was awesome because mom is almost 80. The ride on the beach road is rutted and bumpy, just like Gary told us it would be. I'm going to tell my niece about the company so she can book a tour when she is here next summer.

I am so glad I booked that tour. The only way to get to see horses is by the vehicle that can drive on sand. Very knowledgeable guides took us places and told us a lot about the area. The place is one of a kind. Please consider paying a reasonable price for a tour instead of taking your chances of being stuck in the sand. This time of the year, take blankets and wear coats and warm hats.

Back Country Safari's Corolla Wild Horse Tour exceeded our expectations! Our family had a fantastic time exploring the beach dunes with a knowledgeable and friendly guide. We witnessed the beauty of wild horses in their natural habitat, and the experience was both family-friendly and reasonably priced. Highly recommend for a great time in a perfect location!

We highly recommend Back Country Safari tours to see the wild mustangs. We took the 10:30am tour with Tom and saw no fewer than 40 horses and one baby. It was 2 of the best hours of our vacation and we will recommend them to anyone coming to this area.

Excellent tour with Jeff as our guide. He made the whole experience fun and educational. We saw 12 horses altogether, we even got to see 1 new calf. The ride is a bit bumpy but you get fair warning. Overall a really awesome experience! Highly recommended.

I absolutely loved this tour! Definitely a MUST if you are visiting the area! My family will be doing this tour again every time we visit! Our tour guide made sure to tell us lots of info and that we were able to see the horses!

This was an amazing experience that I highly recommend. Our guide, Trish, was very knowledgeable and personable. We loved seeing the horses but also enjoyed all of the history of the area she shared. If you haven't booked a tour with this company, put it on your "to-do" list so you can make memories too.

We very much enjoyed ourselves on the tour today. Learned about the beach and erosion control efforts. The history of the north beach, and of course the horses. They were beautiful and very healthy looking. Our guide Brandon gave a very insightful explanation of everything. Being a resident of the area I feel was a benefit. Not one question went unanswered. Very well worth the $$. Lot of info packed into 2 hours. Thank you.

So much fun! We toured with Gator & saw 17 wild horses! He provided so much information about the area and answered all of our questions. This was such a great way to see the horses and learn about the area! We would absolutely recommend doing this!

We had a blast on our horse tour. Tommy was the best guide. He knew the best spots to look and showed us over 30 horses!! Not only was he very knowledgeable, but he was very pleasant and funny as well!! We had the best time ever! Definitely would recommend and we will definitely be returning!!

Gator is a great tour guide. He knows where to find the horses, even on days when they're hiding due to weather. He's knowledgeable and friendly. We've had him on 2 tours now.

Justin was a great tour guide. He was personable, funny and knowledgeable. Our family enjoyed riding on the beach and seeing parts of north beach we couldn’t travel on our own. We found several horses and stopped to get pictures with one that was at the park. I would highly recommend this tour but remember to bring a sweatshirt!

Gary was a great tour guide. He was able to find several families of wild horses for our group to photograph.
We also learned the history of the horses and all about the vegetation in the area.

Wife and I greatly enjoyed our tour last week. It was enjoyable the first hour or so but honestly we had a concern at the time we wouldn't see any horses. We understood from the get go, they are wild animals living in a big area and no one has control of where they are. Jeff (hope that is the correct spelling), our guide did a great job. He was very entertaining throughout and was very focused on us seeing horses. With his expertise we ending up seeing 14-15 horses on the tour. We recommend this tour highly.

Great tour! Our guide Gary did an excellent job. He was extremely informative, took time to make sure the kids were involved with the conversation and his fondness for the horses showed as he shared details about the horses and their history. We were able to see 3 separate bands of horses on the tour and plenty of photo ops.

Terry was an exceptional guide - knowledgeable about the Corolla area and history and personable. We had the unique experience of seeing a one-day old foal with mother with three other Spanish horses on the beach. This was our fourth tour over the years with Back Country Safari and they all have been wonderful. We took first-time OBXers visiting us and they thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Also got an excellent restaurant tip for lunch.
